Tapping is a way to help hold out the note but it is also used to damped a note and is used as a totally different strumming type. It’s insanely tough but when done right it’s so nice
@send1treacts since he’s using electric the notes are read by the vibration of the string and the magnetic field the string has. So with tapping he can alter the amount of vibration above the pickup for the same note
Its not that tough really in my opinion, but it really depends what you're playing and how long you are tapping for because if i play a tapping section for longer i start to get a bit tired (my hands).
Or you know, a simple way is that you can play notes higher up while still playing lower down the neck. (Basically guitar multitasking) A great song to listen to is ‘Midnight’ by Joe Satriani. the entire song (i think) is tapping. Side note: Tapping is also a way of playing a note without having to pick it/fingerpick it. The sheer strength of the tap itself produces the sound.
TheDooo actually has 4 solos! There is this one to Eclipse, Horizons, and Ethereal (which he played in the first video with his Hello Kitty guitar). I love every one of his solos so much but Ethereal is my personal favorite! You can't miss out on Ethereal!
In relation to the guitar question: Technically, it's not strumming, it's picking, sorry! And it wouldn't affect the sound other than the note sustaining a little longer before tapping, as tapping means he's playing a new note completely. Hope that answers it, and I don't mean to be picky (pun intended). Loving these vids! :))
Tapping sounds different because when you pick a string the sound depends where on the string you pick. Tapping only vibrates the string depending on the fret.
@@tarmy3619 not exactly true. The tapping still makes for a different note. You're literally just hammering on a note, so the vibration of how you originally picked the string is completely irrelevant...

I just wanted to let you know that you reacted to a cover of his song, the original is way better than this, you can find it on TheDooo channel. The video you reacted to is from a youtube channel called "TheDooo covers"
the answer to your question is when you need to hit a note further down the neck board its easier to tap that note. as a guitarist of 4 years now tapping is an easier strategy.! hope that helps
Tapping usually plays the pitch of the string that is tapped at the fret where it was tapped, but quieter, and it isn't a gentle tap. It is very difficult on acoustic guitars, but with electrics (and their more flexible and sensitive strings), tapping is very useful when playing a note far away from where the playing hand is. Anyone feel free to fact-check me as this is off memory.
He's also doing what's called pinch harmonics which gives the note that squeal sound and to achieve that you pick the note with the guitar pick at the same time your thumb slightly touches the string directly after picking they happen almost simultaneously and he is also sweep picking alot and hammer ons and pull offs are a normal to soloing
I'm so glad you're reacting to his three original songs. It's not only the fact that he's playing fast, but more that he's so accurate in everything. Plus, it's a nice bonus that all three songs are the type you can listen to over and over again. Love watching your reaction to his talent...
As a guitarist of a decade and a half... all of his songs are exceedingly difficult. Each for their own respective reasons. Ascend has very fast arpeggios and hammer ons and pull offs faster than hell. Horizons being the easiest in my opinion, however still incredible musicianship, but Eclipse by far musically, as well as just skill on guitar is on another level. The tapping methods used in Eclipse are extremely difficult, making Joe Satriani's "Midnight" to competition...

Another comment on tapping lul. So here is why you prefer tapping in some circumstances. A) It's easier and faster to do it. The entire point of tapping is that on the same string you can play two notes which are distant to each other without there being any seeming time lapse between them. This makes you go from a low pitch to a high pitch within seconds. 2) It looks cool and flashy. There is a reason why EVH was so loved and it was because how good he used to tap the strings. I would say check out Ichita, Polyphia to hear how tapping is used better. Or even one of the Doo songs where he taps with his four strings. Plus he taps with his left hand as well. This can be either regular tapping or something called as Hammer on. Scientifically, it just means the string is already vibrating because you picked it, so you tap it and the distinct sound of picking does not come in between and it sounds more fluid. People like Martin Patrajalek do it on an acoustic guitar as well where it is much more difficult and actually hurts the hand. Tapping is relatively one of the more easier techniques unless you look at people like Ichita, Yvette who solely rely on tapping to a huge extent at which point it becomes like playig keyboard.

thats not his channel btw. The channel he has are the dooo and the dooo too. The channel you are visiting is some person taking his covers and posting them for money/revenue.
What you describe as "from strumming to tapping" is not exactly what he is doing. You also have a technique called hammer on and pull off where you tap the string with your fretting hand or pull it off to make the same sound as you would strumming the pick. This is often used in faster paced stuff or where you want to eliminate the power that a strumming move can cause. He does have some tapping in there but he goes from strumming + hammer on pull off combo to tapping and back.
Ur question at 3:2-- in that he tapped for a harmonic which gives the note a different sound, but a lot of times people will tap because it’s sometimes a note is out of reach and it can be played more efficiently and faster with tapping. Plus it looks cool😂
hello, guitar enthusiast here, on report! Obviously, The Dooo is doing a lot of things that create different sounds on that instrument. That's a very well built instrument, and Dooo is fully fluent in the language of the guitar, that's the first thing one must know, in case it isn't obvious. He isn't amazing at one thing, or a few things. He's spectacular at everything. Bending a string creates 'bad' notes between notes, and the swale that comes from the sound is different than a pick of the string because it isn't sudden, its constant. And since your ear hears it as the note moves and 'bends', it doesn't sound bad, where if he were to strum at the wrong 'bend point', it wouldn't sound very nearly as good. The tapping does create a different tone, it creates three rapid notes every time he does it, the note playing on the string before the tap, and the hammer on/pull off notes. Most guitarists can hammer on with their fret-board hand. It's a fluttery sound when the notes or 1,2, or 3 frets apart, but after that, it doesn't sound fluttery, depending on the feeling a guitarist is trying to create, a tap can create a number of different tones. I haven't mastered it at all, but the short answer is yes, tapping makes a different sound than a pick or a strum. The Dooo can create a few squealing tones. There's a type of note that's called a harmonic. It sounds airy and light, almost like the sound a bell makes. However, with a harmonized note, a guitarist can make it scream as well on an electric. at 3:49 , There's a harmonic squeal that he creates (I never mastered this, so this is the best i can understand it.) He's also using a whammy bar that 'bends' ever string at the same time. If he pulls up, the entire guitar tightens, and all the notes playing on it bend upward. If he pushes down on the bar, it does the opposite and lowers every note. He definitely has pedals by his feet, a distortion that separates his 'clean' sound from his 'solo' tone. He never solos without hitting his distortion. He might have a few other pedals that effect his sound, but I'm not sure if he's exposed his pedal board. And finally, he's doing things and sounds that I can't understand. Hope this helped, lol
Goosebumps, every time I hear that shit. Dooo is just a once in a generation all around talent. I really hope you get to play with him someday big bro. But you don’t have to be that good to be good bro, keep groovin and you’ll find your own style🚀💯

However, with a harmonized note, a guitarist can make it scream as well on an electric. at 3:49 , There's a harmonic squeal that he creates (I never mastered this, so this is the best i can understand it.)
He's also using a whammy bar that 'bends' ever string at the same time.
