The problem here is people see WD-40 and think they’re using the water displacer/ multi purpose spray. WD-40 is the brand and they have many many different lubricants. The 100% silicon spray which I’m sure they’re using in this video is a perfectly viable option for the treadmill belt. I’ve been using it for years with no issue. I also use the WD-40 white lithium grease on the moving metal parts when I lift the deck up for storage. So WD-40 is fine if it’s the silicone spray. Don’t use the rust remover stuff lol
@UFirstFitness Yup, They really can confuse folks here. They do say Silicon, but the video shows WD40. Doing that, like you said, would be a big mistake.
You should never use a silicone spray. It contains additives that will gunk up your belt. Use 100% silicone. It comes in liquid form and can be purchased at most gym equipment stores. To properly lubricate lift up the belt and spread it all around as best you can. Then put treadmill on 3mph and WALK it around just walk all around the belt and spread that stuff around for 3-5 minutes. I was a service tech for gym equipment and have done this countless times. This is the best way to do it. Again, NEVER USE SPRAY.
Thank you so much KIFulgore! Did not realise what is wrong with my treadmil!!!! it kept on slipping and i almost fall! thought i put too much lubricant, but i have tightened the belt and it works perfectly. thanks! you saved the day!
He used WD-40 100% silicone spray. Although he definitely should have mentioned that's what he used, since most people think of WD-40 as a metal lubricant.
WD40 is the brand and have have many different lubricants. WD-40 silicon spray looks like the water displacer but it’s different. Just make sure you get the silicon spray.
Great video, I jumped online to look at how to lubricate treadmills since mine slips and wala, your video has the EXACT treadmill I got, now that is my lucky day.
I worked at Proform / Nordictrack etc as a tech. This video is incorrect and can lead to ruining a treadmill or someone getting SERIOUSLY INJURED. WD 40 is not silicone spray. WD 40 is the reason so many people called in when their machine broke or they got hurt putting lubricant under the belt. It must be 100% SILICONE, NOT WD-40! - Howcast is reputable, and needs to fix this ASAP before someone gets seriously hurt.
CHRISJORDAN I have a question for you since you are a treadmill person I absolutely love treadmills usually people just let them sit and rot after spending 500 bucks and only using them twice not me I use mine almost everyday for 60 minutes LOL but I was wondering ever heard of the name zapp treadmills I was looking into purchasing one of theirs to replace my 1998 Weslo dl15
Thank-you Sir out of all of the videos yours is the simplest way to do it all again THANK-YOU! I WILL TELL EVERYONE THAT ASK ME ABOUT A FIXEN A TREADMILL ABOUT YOU.
Most silicone based sprays have more hydrocarbons, or petroleum than actual silicone. WD-40 is not silicone. Treadmill lubricant products have 100% Silicone or close to it. Silicone also goes by Poly(dimethylsiloxane), dimethicone, PDMS.
It needs to be 100% silicone spray NOT WD-40 in the blue can. To lubricant treadmill belt, Google 100% silicone spray or Treadmill lubricant spray. Regular WD-40 in blue can will destroy your treadmill. There is WD-40 100% silicone in black can.
I lubricated my ancient machine with silicone and let it sit. Now the belt slips on the roller occasionally. Tension is good. Can I clean the roller somehow?

Guys. They covered the label on purpose. Obviously it's wd40, I doubt they actually sprayed anything. If someone sprays wd40 on their treadmill after they clearly say silicone, well, they deserve what they get.

Don't use the WD 40 they show, the belt will be ruined, sticky, gooey soft. They are just making a video, not actually lubing the treadmill. Liquid silicone oil.
Rehman Hamza as long as it is pure silicone and is not combined with MTFE or lithium. it is best to use an actual silicone oil over ANY spray can but really as long as it it's lubed your doing more then 80% of treadmill owners out there. the online suppliers all have silicone lube and wax based some in oil some in dry powder or even iron on for the old school treads. don't get confused by "proprietary formulations" just find a silicone based oil lube and use it. the difference from one brand to the next is like Coke vs Pepsi. same sugar water.
WHERES THE PART WHERE YOU LOSEN THE BELT ? LIKE YOU CANT JUST STICK YA FINGER UNDER IT AND LIFT IT UP, YOU HAVE TO AT LEAST LOSEN IT 5 TIME ON EACH SIDE.....
The title should be, “How to f**k up your treadmill with WD 40. One would think a how-to video containing harmful instructions should be taken down. But money, huh?
Yeah good video.... NOT! you are lubricating with WD40 which stands for "water dispersant #40" DER...it will dry out and cause more friction to build up between the deck and belt and in turn the motor to get hotter and electronics will work harder and eventually fail! most domestic treadmills require silicone as the lubricant or some are waxed but check the manufacturers specs before lubricating anything.
This individual had fecal matter for brain. As another person indicated - his avocado pit intelligence is utilizing we-40, when all treadmill manufacturers usually recommend pure 100 % silicone. Sadly, such great video making ability are wasted on lack of intelligence.
funny though, and it doesnt earn a lot of confidence in your information. U used WD 40 not silly cone. Deh, deh, deh!!!!!!!!!!!! they are not the same by a mile dude
Title should be " How to ruin a treadmill" - Don't give advice if you have no idea what you are talking about. WD-40 will ruin a belt. Also, WD-40 is not silicone. And never use silicone in a spray can. You need 100% silicone which comes in a tube / plastic bottle / packet.

What if it gives off black dust at the back and front on the floor and it smells bad after 10 minutes of use??
Then there’s a gang of coal mining nymphs that live within that space. Try a mystical fife or burn some sage. It’s your only options really.
So you're saying the DW 40 100% Silicone spray is no good for treadmills?
I am confused, what is the hole to fill oil if we have to lubricate belt directly?
What about cleaning the dust under belt before putting oil?
After lubricating the treadmill, don't forgot to shake the can. Lol
Thank you so much KIFulgore! Did not realise what is wrong with my treadmil!!!! it kept on slipping and i almost fall! thought i put too much lubricant, but i have tightened the belt and it works perfectly. thanks! you saved the day!
Using wd40 will cause the underside of the belt to dry up and increase friction causing issues. Use silicone lubricant .
Mate, thats exactly what he instructed... did you watch the video?
He used WD-40 100% silicone spray. Although he definitely should have mentioned that's what he used, since most people think of WD-40 as a metal lubricant.
Do Not use WD 40!!
Why?

WD 40 ????? Makin a greasy mess underneath the belt ! NEVER USE WD 40
Good video, but some treadmills require a lube other than silicone. Silicone sprays will damage some belts.

How do people "get hurt" putting WD-40 lubricant under the belt?
@@OverDaFenceGarage If it deteriorates the belt, then the belt could fail while you're using it.
@@OverDaFenceGarage the oils the break down the latex rubber. Same reason you shouldn't use petroleum jelly with condoms.

WD-40 also has silicone spray.
Hmm, this should help disperse any water left on your treadmill. Petroleum distillates are usually frowned on for belts.
WD40 silicone spray contains 60%-80% LVP Petroleum Solvent & only 1% to 5% silicone. It's not good for treadmills
