I just got a treadmill like this, different brand. Their recommended interval is 300 Km, a bit over 180 miles, but feeling the underside of the belt is probably a good idea. I like that the demonstrated product has an extender tube, much longer and more slender than my hands.

I have not had that issue yet. Make sure you put in inside the belt and you should be good
