Anatomy is tough. Just last night I did a couple studies of form and gesture, and they taught me a lot. It just goes to show the complexity of life. It's awesome. I never want to stop learning.

When you feel overwhelmed and think you need a break... Just keep going. Draw something, anything. It doesn't have to be the piece you have been working on that is causing you to stress, it doesn't have to be something super hard. Just draw something. Take a break from compositions/commissions and work on some study exercise. Watch some videos for inspiration and draw whatever strikes you. Then when you feel your confidence returning jump back into the project that was causing you so much stress in the first place and approach it with fresh eyes. The biggest thing is you can't fall into the trap of stopping. It's fine to take a break, but draw SOMETHING every day. The body and mind do not like starting back up once they come to a full stop.
I'm glad I joined your class, good sir. Ever since I joined, my growth has been exponential compared to figuring out everything on my own. Not only that, but having access to the discord community and being active with the fellow students who have also joined the class has been a valuable tool. Totally worth it.
I think, I am at level 2 right now, but I don’t really focus on anatomy. I do, however, draw the finest stick figures. But seriously, I still need a lot of practice and this video and your channel help with that.
I think I’m at a light 3 by now. I’ve spent a lot of time dipping into level 4 and 5 stuff before I was ready, but I think it’ll make it easier for me to get into those levels with success once I clean up my levels 2 and 3. Thanks for the video👍
I’m a university student pursuing a different career path but art is my passion. Your videos have helped me improved a lot in the past 2 years that I’ve started to pick up drawing and painting again. Thank you for your videos. I’m excited to enroll in your art class very soon once I saved up enough! Lezgooo
That moment when you drew the image of the girl beside the reference and then moved your picture over and it lined up perfectly. That is a flex if I’ve ever saw one lol. my hat off to you sir. Color me impressed! I don’t know what level I’m at. Whenever I need a skill for whatever I’m doing I learned the skill then. not the best way to learn but it yields some pretty interesting results when I have to overcome my lack of skills with things that I am good at. I like a little bit of chaos. Also I’m not trying to get hired. I will think about this though because I would like to be able to draw anatomy based off of the actual muscle structure.
I don't know why, but this is the video that made it click for me. I was having trouble actually getting started with studying from reference and matching gestures to shapes, but this put it into terms for me.
Hi Marc! I know this is an old video but I wanted to say that this video was immensely helpful in trying to go through your art school program. I bought the first term of your program but when I looked at the included video it was a lot thrown at me at once. I tried doing all of the daily anatomy practice assignments at once and got quickly burned out because I didn't realize I needed to take the time to build up to the more advanced parts of it. After a few months I'm coming back to practicing art again, this video is a nice pacing guide and is a good supplemental piece to your term one anatomy instructions. Thank you for all the free content you put out on youtube.
I am mostly sculpting nowadays but love your videos so much that getting back to drawing :) Fantastic lessons man, always learning a lot and... laughing a lot :) Greetings from Mexico!
this is very painful, when in real life you don't have friends who have the same hobby it means there is no one to share stories about art, but this channel heals everything, thank you
wouldn't it be cool to have a dedicated video on each of the stages. I think I'm stage 2 but I still find it really challenging and time consuming to do some gesture drawing that doesn't look like actual garbo
i have seen some tutorials that teach you how to improve in gesture drawings, havent got a chance to watch them yet because im really busy, but lemme get it
I think i at 3th level. Some things I can't draw just out of my head, as I usually do. Now I am actively moving forward in teaching anatomy and progress on the face, just a month ago I could not build a normal body. I have problems with a variety of poses in my head. And when I transfer my idea to the canvas, I stick to it for an hour. Because of this, I can't portray what I want. I hope it will turn out in the next month.:')
Literally perfect for what I've been working on 😭 would you ever consider doing a class video on stuff like flow? It's something I struggle with heavily
I learn anatomy and it's tough and tiring especially when you work in operation dept. There will be time I procrastinate because of how mentally exhausted to do both in a day. But also did it with much shorter time than originally intended. The process itself when you start is fun
I’m at ground 0 right now and I’m starting level one but it’s just that I get so caught up trying to make things be more aligned and learning ways of how to draw certain body parts easier. It worked sort of but not as much as I wanted to. For example I don’t know how to place the neck or how to align the torso with the crotch and also shoulders are a problem as well. I hope this tutorial can help in some way.
I'm an odd mix of level 3 and Pro. I'm definitely NOT a pro but when I draw from imagination I can usually produce something that's pretty anatomically correct and visually appealing even when drawing very difficult poses. And when I draw from references the results are always satisfactory. 🤷♂️
thanks for the video and i just realized that i was doing all the levels except pro at the same time lol this helped alot i am gonna take it step by step
great to see you marc, I just got my Huion kamvas 22 plus, now setting up my laptop and tablet for back tracking your lesson Thanks and salute for you being a real old school you tuber? Sharing! thanks again from the UK
I'm a level 1, and just getting started. It's actually reassuring that level 1 involves using a photo reference and drawing over it to get the basics, because I fear the white canvas right now.
I was watching your old muscle study videos from 2-3 years ago, and when I say it was like heavens light shined down upon me after hearing you finished the model...Thank you! but I'll definitely practice level 2 some more first
Bad anatomy was what made me realize I needed to reevaluate my approach to my artwork. I'd say with these classes on YT I've gotten myself to Level 2? My free-hand from imagination is still pretty lacking, but when referencing a pose to draw things are turning out better now. Also please stop reading my mind. Every time I think of a subject I want to improve on you seem to post a new video about what I was worrying about 🤣
I love you damn, your videos are so helpful... And also so funny, I could watch them just to entertain myself in case I didn't need to learn anything, you're great, keep it up

It’s kinda boring to practice at first (basically I used to think Tracing a singular pose made me a master)bc I’m always like AhH I’ll do it tmrw and I never practice so I lost my drawing skills so I’m going to restart from level one. I’ll try dedicate myself because random but I’m also making a manga with a lot of fun characters lol and I can’t rlly draw them bc i suck haha. I've been drawing for 15 years and TIL in only level 2. TT_TT Tbf, I have never studied/practiced deliberately and draw infrequently. I do however, observe the world around me (noticing how clothing falls or how face shadows look on certain lights etc) and always find I've improved, even after a year without drawing. However, the amount of improvement in my art is what I'd have seen over a few months if I'd deliberately practiced. XD
I ended up doing Level 5 before some of the other levels (yes, I wasted a lot of time by doing that lol) but I can now recite all the major muscle masses, how they connect to one another and how to do a simplified drawing of them.
i think i probably have one foot in level 2 and one in level 3 right now, if I had to guess. It is nice to have some kind of guide lines to gauge and direct ones learning when we are teaching ourselves. I think this is very helpful
