    One exercise that helped me ALLOT for balance in martial arts (and a whole heap of other benefits) is the Japanese Sumo quintessential exercise called Shiko - its done slow, high reps, builds strength and flexibility of the whole leg especially in the hips and core, after a while its meditative.

    I realize I have imbalances in my right hip, gluteus medius, knee, and foot ( I guess it’s a chain reaction). In the past year it has gotten worse. I had a Muay Thai fight in 2023 and I think that imbalance was there even then, but it’s so much worse now. It definitely affects my balance especially on switch kicks, the turning of the right hip, the strength to stay planted on the lead teep. I can still generate a lot of power, but I often feel I’m off balance when I really explode.

      Thanks for sharing. It's a great example of how solely practicing the sport doesn't address the gaps in development. That's the job of supplemental S&C training, addressing;
      1. Movement - mobility, stability, coordination
      2. Athletic Performance - strength, power, speed, endurance
      All with the aim of primarily reducing injury risk, and secondarily improving athletic performance.
