One of the latest NES games. It was great, not only it pushed NES hardware to it's limits but as you can see the gameplay is very diverse. The levels, the bosses, it was quite inovative for it's time.
It's amazing how much content has been put into this game. The level / boss design, the graphics, the soundtrack, the gameplay -- everything is top-notch. I remember how proud I was when I defeated lord Contaminous as a kid -- still remember that feeling.
Persona Ohnlyne It's highly overlooked anymore. Gamers need to stop saying the word overlooked, underplayed, or unappreciate. Makes the games more expensive than it needs to be.

This game was my no.1 game. Second Turtles Manhattan Project and third Mario in which you have some special powers and bosses(not the normal mario don't remember its name).
+Salman Shaikh "Turtles III The Manhattan Project" was awesome! Better than the other two tmnt games, and the Best beat'em up for the NES in my opinion, next to "Double Dragon" I still remember when I first got that game as a little kid, and being mesmorized by the artwork with the turtles fighting that triceritops looking guy on the cover, and the game itself when I put it in was just awesome. I love how each turtle had their own special move. Raph's torpedo screw attack thing was the best.

EDIT: looked on ebay.. the cheapest ZEN game is $150. what?! some are selling it, unopened supposedly, for $2000 or more! this is insane! i dont care how good or rare the game may be, i wouldnt pay over $25 for it!

The "scramble borders" would only be seen on newer TVs, but it was due to the screen scrolling. You see the NES only had memory for 1 and a bit screens of info. If you scrolled the screen past the actual viewing area it would simply wrap from 1 side to the other. So to achieve the smooth scrolling that you see, as the parts of the level went past the left edge of the screen, they would be overwritten with new tiles before you could see them come back in on the right. Giving the illusion of smooth scrolling. This is also why many games would smooth scroll up and down, or side to side but typically not both. The sprite flicker is caused by the programers cycling through the sprites. The NES could only have 8 sprites on any given scan line. If there were more than 8 sprites on any given scan line, the NES would render the first 8 and then not render the others. So programers would cycle the sprites through the sprites, which would make them flicker instead of disappear altogether. FYI. XD
+chuckobscure Good NES assets don't necessarily mean good SNES/Megadrive assets. Just look at all the early SNES-era RPGs and the cancelled Sunsoft's Batman SNES version. There's quite a bit of work (and money) needed to get it to a higher enough standard of quality to compete with the likes of F-Zero and Axelay... Some companies like Sunsoft/Jaleco/Vic Tokai tried to port their NES catalogue to the SNES this way and led themselves to ruin this way... Also, Nintendo had a limit on how many games publishers could release per year, and Konami had enough trouble releasing their existing SNES catalogue (this is why so many games were JP-only or only released in English in Europe). Not to mention, the SNES and Genesis also have a sprite limit and the flickering when it's reached (Some Megadrive games actually use it to simulate water transparency), it's just slightly higher. Even the buggy edge of screen was present in the likes of Terranigma/Secret of Mana/Star Fox, hidden behind an overlay but occasionally visible.
i always liked the weird play angle this was in. got this when I had an NES as a child. didn't even know it came out towards the end of the NES era. Hmm.

This game is ridiculous, it's hard to tell whether you're landing on a platform or not in such siometric perspective and then that mine care level, you can never tell when there will be a pitch coming up or not, since everything moves soo fast, so instead you have to memorize everything, and then am not talking about those end bosses wich could respawn and keep refilling his energy over and over again, this game is unhumanly brutal.

uh, no. not sure how you could be more wrong. having an emulator itself is not illegal, nor is making one. 'rules' don't apply to any of this, 'laws' do. the applicable laws are copyright protection ones, which protect the games themselves (and maybe bios/system roms you need for some systems). the 'rule' you're talking about was that you could have a rom of a GAME if you owned the GAME. not the system/emulator. as far as i know that never changed, but even if it did, emulators themselves are not illegal.

You can tell that by 1990, most developers knew how to use the full power of the NES system.
my favourite past memory..love the musical tracks and kind of electrifying sounds...ZEN intergalactic NINJA will never be forgotten by its fans.
Even back then people already talked about the pollution. The developers left us a message.
One of the most creative and intense games on NES/Dendy. And the music is very powerful and brilliant, for sure!!!

It's also weird how the original NES had flicker and the edges would have scrambled borders as you advance the screen. Why was that?
The "scramble borders" would only be seen on newer TVs, but it was due to the screen scrolling. You see the NES only had memory for 1 and a bit screens of info.
