    Calibra was a legend in the 90s. I remember passing one as it was pulling out of the driveway in wexford, and I was flat out in my little starlet, well, in 10 seconds that car caught me and passed me like I was going backwards and vanished into the countryside. Opel used to be the brand to beat and the red top calibra was a great car for its day

      Unreliable as hell: wastegate rattle, leaky like my old grandpa, intake valve burns by snapping your finger and the worst of all, I have seen a case where the drive belt snapped and ended in the crankcase by being sucked by the crank pulley. And I spared you the part about the shitty HPFP

    • @darenzy
      @darenzy 5 лет назад +2

      @@olivier01234 It will not leak if it wasn't overheated. If it was well, it's fried just like any other engine. And if you consider yourself a car enthusiast and cannot notice chain rattle, I have bad news for you. I would also add OEM oil pump is also a weak point, but all those are little things compared to what that engine offers. Seems someone bought lemon 335i

    The Opel/Vauxhall C20XE in the Netherlands is like the LS-series in the USA. Almost every Opel that swapped his engine gets one of these as replacement. I have seen it in a Kadett, Manta, Astra, Corsa, Calibra, Ascona, Record, Vectra and GT. The C20XE is just a legend over here.

      Ilias Lamari same in germany, if it was legal to put one in my Tigra B i'd do it

    • @bonzooop
      @bonzooop 6 лет назад +1

      In Poland we have a lot of Opel Tigra A and Corsa A & B with c20xe. Tigra B is more compliceted to swap this engine because is from another era. I know guy who puts c20xe to Corsa A and he win a lot of quarter mile race.

    • @iliaslamari7315
      @iliaslamari7315 6 лет назад +1

      Philipp Deic. Well, it sucks that it is not legal in Germany. I understood that you have a TÜV inspection which is pretty hard to pass for some older cars. Also here things are pretty similar and shit like an engine swap is a real pain to get it legal. If your swap makes 40% more power than orignal, than you have to do I completely new inspection. They test literally everything and if it failed than you are still paying € 750,- and have to wait a month for a new appointment.

    • @raptorjeezus2607
      @raptorjeezus2607 6 лет назад

      Ilias Lamari its all about emissions. My cars engine starts with a Z, so its gotta be at least a Z or newer as far as I understand it. And since I dont want a turbo, there arent really any 2 litres I could use

      Dobry wieczór Maciej Morelaz! That sounds very nice and I really like Poland. In the past I sold a Microcar virgo to somebody how does buying those mini cars for a living and he was from Poland but did speak Dutch to. Now my car drivers in Poland because he fixed it up and sold it. In the future I wanted to buy like a polski fiat 125p, Wartburg 1.3 or a trabanta 1.1 from Poland and bring it over here. Do you know if it is hard to import a car from Poland to the Netherlands? I think that it is not that hard because a lot of polish people do the same thing with cars from the Netherlands.

    I was having Opel Vectra A 2000(full name of the car) with C20XE and 4wd it was sickest car of all my cars. It was simple to maintain it was dirty cheap for parts,SFI box was deleted,had some modification on engine. ~230-240km/h simple,and the sound of the sport exhaust....It was a dream car to own.

      That's simple, basically every 2 stroke diesel ;D (JUMO 205 and 207, Detroit diesel, napier deltic and the 5 TDF and 6 TD used in russian MBT's).

    • @barath4545
      @barath4545 6 лет назад +6

      All diesels should be forced induction as they can take so much boost right off the bat, that an N/A diesel becomes pathetic in power output. IIrc the last N/A diesel got released in 1994 for a reason and was weak as shit. So such a video can only be about very obsolete engines. 2-strokes diesels are all (iirc) supercharged to make it breathe at all. Not boosted but not N/A either.

      Donald Drumpf: some guy here in north Norway built a 327hp NA 6.2 detroit diesel in a suburban. that thing could get the same mileage as a dam toyota echo if driven carefully, but drive it hard and it would drinc what you gave it. he was an engine builder by trade and had build 6.2 engines for tractor pulling at 3000+hp and even nascar engines back in the days. not something anyone would put together in a shed thats for sure.

    The Opel C25XE wasn't used in the Calibra DTM from what I know. That engine was a 75 degree Cosworth KF series engine, specifically developed for Opel, but still a 2.5 litre, although mounted longitudinally instead of transversely as per the road car. Cosworth also developed the head for the 20XE/C20XE, half the reason it has decent power and efficiency.

      N. Sch the 1.0 MPI version is only ~900kg, no power steering, no sunroof, no AC. The engine is set up for maximum torque from factory (as in exhaust layout and intake etc), with some fiddling (FZR bike headers sorta fit) it can easily make more top end power...but you'll lose low end torque and thus driveability, and even with its stock power you can run into the limiter in 5th (~155 km/h) already.

    You forgot the Opel Z20LET which brings 200Hp and 250Nm and his successor the Z20LEH. Its a very reliable turbocharged engine with forged pistons, oil jet piston cooling, 240hp and 320Nm.
    Its a very strong base to tune. There are many upgraded z20leh's with more than 1000hp!

      mattvaughan180 I'm always surprised people go as far as importing SR20s from Japan to drop into their (non-Nissan) cars, but almost no one uses VAG 1.8ts or 2.0ts turned 90°. Sure it has its own issues but at least it does not drop lifters

      AccAkut1987 I know what you mean but you can make reasonable hp out of them for little effort,don’t ktm use the 1.8 on there xbows? Sr motor is only good for 350bhp on standard internals either that or it shits it’s gearbox

    BMW M42 and M43 - first one as a reliable, fun and cheap little 4 cylinder engine for E30's, and prefacelift E36's, and second one as a reliable daily engine in E36's and prefacelift E46's, with good gas mileage and very easy maintenance (mainly due to the fact that they're chain driven). Both engine families are amost bulletproof.

The long block is also good (and reliable) for around 600 hp - just add more boost - and it's still based on the straight 6 (called the Thriftpower Six) Ford America made back in '59 for the Falcon, with updates and tweaks added by Ford Australia as the years went on.
