    *Note This table has a weight limit of 200 lbs of evenly distributed weight. We are not evenly distributed humans. Adults must reinforce each leg and center with either pvc or 2x2’s. Safety first! 😃💯

      @dalecleveland144 11 дней назад +1

      How did you reinforce the table? Did you include this in another video?

    • @ModernDayPilgrim
      @ModernDayPilgrim  11 дней назад

      @dalecleveland144 thanks for watching! I don’t have a particular video showing how I reinforce the table bed. My husband built me a little wood leg for the center, and that’s about all I use. However, any adult using this table bed idea should reinforce it at center and each leg. I recommend either PVC or two by twos. Some people have stated that they would use PVC, and cut out the area at the top of the table where the bar needs clearance, but that seems a little bit too much for me to want to deal with. I just reinforced the center. There are weight limits to the table, and there’s a debate going on about how much it actually holds. But the weight itself, per manufacture recommendations, is an evenly distributed weight, and we are not evenly distributed humans, therefore needing to reinforce mostly center. But I recommend all adults using this idea reinforce at each leg and center. It’s a simple measure from the bottom of the table to the floor of your van for each leg and center. Once you get your blankets and everything on the table bed that you’ll be using to sleep with, the weight of that hold them in place. My van is completely no build. Hope this helps! Have a fantastic day!😃💯🇺🇸

    I use the table top for storage and sleep on the floor with my legs going under the table. (I am longer than 67". The passenger side of the floor can be used for storage. In the morning I fold up the foam mattress and put it where my legs were.

    Effective. Easy. Inexpensive. Removable. Uses the only area wide enough. AND boat loads of storage space. A classic example of an idea that is OBVIOUS, once someone else thinks of it.
    As a white water kayaker, I see lots of setups for weekend camping including storage space for kayaks and gear. This is the best mini van setup I've seen.

    Thanks for all the info I’ve gained from your videos. Practical advice and helpful hints for a camper as well as a full time nomad. I keep a notebook at hand as I watch and learn. Years ago I drove a semi cross-country and loved the traveling bit of it. I’m retired now and am getting long in tooth, but want to travel again while I still can. I don’t mean truck driving. My Toyota Sienna mini-van I bought two months ago will be my wheels. Fitting it out has been fun. Come spring I’m going to see the US again. Thanks again for your videos.

    I also have the Same van. I had my bed from front to back, but after seeing your setup I now have it side to side. I'm 5'1", so fit perfectly. I took the wood bed I made and cut it exactly to fit between the cup holders so my mattress is 6 inches below holders and my mattress is 6 inches. and fits level with cup holders. So my head and feet rest on cup holders I put a 1 inch spongymat on top of holders. Had to add cut 2x4 to each leg, but I'm very very comfortable.

    I’m ferrying and driving my DGC cross country this spring moving from AK to MI along with my two rescued scaredy cats (their comfort and safety my priority.. their fine with me but terrified of everyone else so gives new meaning to “stealth” camping! I’m going to play with a crossways high table bed design for having a large pet crate-cage underneath. I’m over 200lbs so I will need to reinforce the bed. Wondering if anyone has more details and or experiences with bed reinforcement and also strapping everything down.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, I would absolutely make sure you reinforce that bed, or maybe have one built out of wood that would be more sturdy. If you plan on putting a crate under there, you have to think about the size of that because you will absolutely need one or more reinforcement legs under the center of that table. I would not use it without making sure you have at least two or three. So that means your cat crates would have to be smaller. Not one large one. Does that make sense?

    I wonder if two 2×4s under the table lengthwise resting on the cup areas would work for sturdiness. Thanks for sharing

    Being so close to the windows that would make it colder, wouldn’t it? Since there’s no insulation and both your head and feet would be in the immediate proximity of the windows. I normally camp in high altitude mountains (colder nights) I’m just wondering how it would do. I checked some of your videos, they’re so awesome I subscribed. Thanks.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, it would be cold unless you insulated the window. Which wouldn’t be that hard if you were going to use the set up. I live in Michigan, and don’t normally camp in the winter. Because I am a van camper, and not a full-time VanDweller. However, if someone was a full-time VanDweller, I would definitely recommend finding something to insulate the windows. I don’t hate the inside of my van at all when I camp in cold weather. I have camped in my van when it’s been in the low 30s. I double up my sleeping bags, putting a mommy sleeping bag in a regular, rectangular sleeping bag that is very helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to come in, have a fantastic weekend😃🙌🏼💯

      @@ModernDayPilgrim I’m 66 and get cold easily lol. But maybe cutting a wool blanket and lining up reflectix? Worth trying. I’m not going to be a full time either, I mentioned that presently I tent camp. I have a home I’m planning to sell (my permanent residence) in the mountains in California and relocating to my second home in Baja but gets over 100 degrees by the Sea of Cortez in the summer thus coming back to USA van camping in the mountains for a few months and the temps can dip down into the 30s easily at night. At the moment is all about the planning and your videos are very helpful with lots of ideas, the best I’ve seen for my personal plans. 👍🏻👍🏻.

      Spent many weekends camping in a pickup truck shell. I slept at window height. It's such a small space, the entire space is pretty much the same temperature. If anything, heat rises, so her body heat is more likely to be trapped at the ceiling. Maybe a tad colder at the floor. But you are on to something. Water condensation on the inside of the windows. Surely a mini van is more air tight than the cap on my pickup truck. (I could easily see daylight at the tailgate.) Even so, water would condense on the inside of the windows, walls, and ceiling. (Humans exhale a lot of moisture.) Blankets that touched the walls would get wet. Even when temps were below freezing, it was warmer to crack a window to vent the moisture rather than use wet blankets.
      My tips for staying warm, even below freezing. 1) wear a hat. Depending on how cold it is, a ski mask. 2) I was disappointed with expensive sleeping bags for years before a common sense friend shared this low tech tip. If you were sleeping at home, wouldn't you just get another blanket? Adding a simple blanket on top of my sleeping bag made a huge difference. 3) Electric heating options include a heated vest or a heated mattress pad. I had a second battery wired in the back, but now those electric power stations are commonly available. A mattress pad far exceeds an electric blanket because heat rises. The first night that I used my heated mattress pad it was below freezing. I woke up drenched in sweat. WAY too hot. Good problem to have. I never ran it above the mid level setting after that.

    How do you support the middle of the table at the "fold" from the underside?

    • @ModernDayPilgrim
      @ModernDayPilgrim  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching! I would suggest using a 2 x 2 and measure from the underside of the table to your floor. Everybody’s vehicle is going to be different. Depending on what Megan model. Or use PVC pipe. Hope this helps! Have a fantastic day!😃🙌🏼💯

      Thanks for watching! Absolutely! Whether it is the table, bed set up, across the width of the van, or the Coleman comfortsmart cot, there is storage space to be had. The Coleman cot is 15 inches high, allowing for my trunk organizer, storage containers to slide underneath. And other things as well. Under the trunk bed, someone could put a shelf if they chose and have it too tiered for storage. I don’t bring that much stuff in. There is no need for me to do that. Less is more in my book! But yes, I totally agree! great place for storage!🙌🏼😃💯

      @ModernDayPilgrim  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching! This bed is too high to sit on. You’d have to have a chair to sit on, and then when you’re ready for bed, just lay down in your bed. Hope this helps! Have a fantastic day!😃🙌🏼💯

      Exactly! I am not trusting skinny aluminum legs with my 200 pound body. Its a good idea to have it as a base but i would support it better. Especially in the center. This is soooo dangerous.

      The manufacturer says 200 pounds of evenly distributed weight. We are not all evenly, distributed human beings, so we have to be thoughtful and careful with that. That’s why I suggest reinforcing it to be super careful. Great question! Thanks for watching.🙌🏼😃💯

    I love your videos, I'm just a little confused with the leveling. If it's an inch higher in the front and the wood is an inch high wouldn't removing the wood make it level 🤔 Just trying to be helpful. I bought this table and plan on trying it out in my Sienna after seeing your set-up. I have a futon in it now that is not very comfy.
