Ming was my first ever campaign and the new content has been a great reason to go back to it. I love playing defensive ming and just focusing on attrition and fort defence.
I suggest from day 1 diplo vassalizing 2 of the smaller nations around Ava, especially Mong Kawng. This allows Ming to turn on strong duchies in 1445. Also, use vassals borders to separate large tributaries from each other. This makes these tributaries static, which is nice. Don't want really strong tributaries.
If I may, I would recommend going the conquest path for both Korea and Dai Viet, as when you take the necessary provinces, the Vietnamese and Korean cultures sinicize (change to the variant in the chinese culture group). I know that accepting a culture is just 100DIP but you'll spare those points and more importantly can use the accepted cultures slots for other cultures (like the multiple mongolian ones). If you don't have the governing capacity, just taking the necessary provinces (basically current North Korea and Tonkin area of Vietnam) and then making tributaries of rump Dai Viet and Korea is perfectly possible (also Korea is going to develop like crazy)
Being under 20 mandate is a requirement for a LOT of very crappy events that Ming can get that make it considerably harder to get back up to 50, all you need is some patience to take reforms at 100 mandate and you avoid that risk, you only get the milder event pool to contend with.
they collapsed few centuries later. every empire collapsed by seldom rebuild like chinese history. So if we go by your argument, everyone make sense to be difficult bc in few hundred years all of them collapse. even if not by name, but de facto

nah opening ideas are infrastructure and court, you need the state maintenance low cost and prosperity growth and court for the estates loyalty and mandate growth, i went aristocratic 3rd and exploration 4th even though i wanted Humanist but Spain never formed because Aragon stole Granada from Castile
22:22 Yeah, different strategy. I am a person, who is always military first because it is my playstyle. Yeah, the court idea in the Ming dynasty is amazing.

Its not hard to play this campaign but there were lots of bugs with the mission tree when this patch first came out out. I think its fixed now though. Also you keep the banners if you become the celestial emperor as manchu or qing. Really fun!
1:04 The decree updates are so funny and historical🤓 Historically, different Ming Emperors choose different decrees and different disasters happen. In my game, I only choose to expand the palace bureaucracy. That's the only way to Ming's greatness.😎

In previous version I first attack Tibet tags to get mechants by setting up trade company, then storm into India to get great amount of tributary state (which means mana & MANDATE & even manpower)! 😜 And colonism can bring a bundle of tributaries
Yes low mandate makes Ming's army weak but Ming has way too MUCH troops, no (AI) tags can stop Ming in the begining of the game in spite of the debuffs . But I am not sure whether Ming is too weak in the 1.35 version so that you have to wait until mandate growth. Think about a lot of MANA & MANDATE in India superregion🤤
13:14 Isn't 30 army professionalism not way better than just 5 Mandate? Thats around 1000 mil power, if you buy cheaper generals for it. And having a third of your professionalism bonus before 1500 is quite nice.

Hey Ludi can you please in future show us the other options of the events please, most of the time you just show us what you take and I think most of us would be interested the other options as well :)
Changes since this guide was released a year ago: Ming have been rebalanced and nerfed: They now have 3 less armies than they did when this video released, however their remaining 5 armies have an additional unit added, start with higher internal autonomy meaning less tax, but to achieve the same amount of starting income had 3 of their armies removed.
Hey Ludi love your content and I thank you for getting me into eu 4. I was on nexus to get domination and the pre order bonus but it says coming soon on the bonus. Is there a reason for that?
What’s the disaster ticking when you’re in negative stability? Now it’s ticking at 3 stability. Eunuchs? And what’s with all the inflation, seems like you have a lot?
Started a Jianzhou to Qing game when domination first came out, and finding the banner exploit was fun. The old "Silver houses of China" province modifiers that you got as a mission reward? Not fun. +0.1 yearly inflation in _three_ provinces fucking hurt.
My god what are the Oirats though! In the first battle I lost 18k, they lost 5k. Immediately I attacked them again, hoping that after the previous battle they would have lower moral. Bad idea, I lost again: 21k casulties against 5k. Generals were af same strength, no terrain effect and armies of the same size (though mine was stronger in the first 7 days of the 1st battle). But if I don't attack them attrition keeps going on decimating my armies. This is really hard
Did you remember to fet monarch points from your tributaries? Apparently not. It is really worthwhile and more than makes up for your terrible starting ruler.
The single whip law seems to be quite broken... in a negative way. It transforms one of your provinces into gold, and provides a special modifier to all gold provinces that adds +1.5 goods produced and depletion reduction. Sounds great? Well, the modifier also adds 0.1 inflation per month. In my case I had 4 provinces. So in just 20 years, I would have reached 100% inflation (there is no cap, as far as I know). Totally game ruining. Because before the game ends, you would pay multiple ducats for a single unit. (giving the provinces to a vassal, removes the modifier).
Ludi my man, you said you wanted to do an updated army composition guide for the new patch. Is that still coming? Apparently we are not supposed to get rid of all Cav at Mil tech 10 anymore? Is that true?
Hey Ludi, I see you were harmonizing during this video, but when I harmonized, I got super low harmony which gave me high corruption and I was paying 35 ducats to keep it down, and the harmony also lowered my meritocracy. How did you keep yours up?
You should wait for 100 harmony, than start harmonization. It will not only give you bonuses from 50+ harmony in time of the process, but even the process will take less time, and you will lose less harmony in it. So in the end you will have ~70 harmony and subtraction of corruption. Wait for 100 again, and start the next group. Missionaries are obviously a waste. It is possible to harmonize everything to 1750.
Wait till having a high harmony then you can harmonise religion without being debuffed, you can build the monument in Youzhou who gives +0.33 harmony per year at max level
Still can't get over Eunuchs... Why would someone choose it, and why would I trust someone it was inflicted upon as punishment... "Hey, you know that guy who's balls we cut off, what's he think about the situation?"
They can't have children, so they more often have nothing better to be doing than being productive ⚙. Plus, children 🧑🍼 are a constant source of desire for *corruption,* due to parental affection and attachment. They also take up a lot of time.
