Is Pogie Fishing Destroying Our Fisheries?

Pogie fishing is taking place in Louisiana without much restriction. Is this type of commercial fishing hurtful to the natural habitats in some of the best fisheries in the world?

This type of fishing is absolutely destroying our fisheries and causes a tremendous amount of harm to the oceans in general. It takes away a primary food sources for predator fish, leads to anoxia, and is a huge contributor to toxic algae blooms. All so these companies and grind them up for fertilizer and animal feed. I worked for a couple yrs as a teenager on shrimp boats. They are trawlers same as pogy boats. It's disgusting how many thousands of pounds of bycatch including juvenile sport and food fish are just pushed over the side dead. The only life to survive are crabs. This was 40 yrs ago, back then I thought that it was only a short matter of time before something was done about this as there is no way this isn't damaging the fisheries. Still doing it today

It’s crazy. When we shot the episode you could see all the bycatch in the nets as they brought it up. They even tried to turn the boats to make it harder for us to see and stuff like they know it’s not right

@@thecastfishing talk to your local commercial fishing guys, most don't wanna do harm to their livilyhoods as they depend on stable fishstocks to feed their familys and help support jobs in their local commuintys.

@@thecastfishing a lot of the rules and regulations that fisherman have to follow are written by the gvt, and most times the gvt don't got a clue what their talking about as most have never been on a boat let alone a working boat. And just pull numbers outta their arses the same with the facked up rules they right
