When they don't want to replace all you can do is gas and go. Old system for sure. Hopefully she'll upgrade. I tell them every time I have to come back and add R22, that is money that they could have put into a new non leaking system. After two (or more) visits in one summer they usually get the point. Then they want that upgrade done at the hottest time of the year! Good video Steve. Steve and the Baby dog are working A/C calls mama!
Always makes me smile when I see Baby Dog. Thanks for showing us one of your billing slips. It's AC weather here in Texas but at 70 degrees I don't turn on the AC just open the windows.
I can tell by the way you work that your a seasoned pro. Your so comfortable while you work. I learn so much from watching you. Another good job Steve!
Another oldy up & running again, Steven! The baby dog enjoying the fresh air and gazing out the window! Curious about your thoughts concerning the different replacement R-22 refrigerants. Thanks.
Did you ever have a situation where a job ended up costing more than anticipated and the customer couldn't pay? Always wondered how payment worked or if that can happen. Great videos
depends on the situation. hardware you can rip back out and take back if they don't pay. refrigerant on the other hand, once inside the unit. there's no getting that back if the custy decides to welch. either way your eating the labor and/or cost of material.
Spector NS5 RD Yeah i know that is a possibility. I was thinking of the possible situation where a regular customer who intended to pay and had say about $600 for ex. and the original job was small but said customer comes up short a little on the price at $650 if say something extra needed to be done by surprise on the job. I was curious if prices are discussed before hand on extra stuff. I always lived in a rental unit where the housing corp calls the workers in and gets billed so i was curious how it worked for home owners.
i can only speak from my experience. if at anytime i think i'm going over the agreed upon bid, i let the custy know before continuing. no agree? = no continue. however, if the overage is small i just eat it, rather than tell the custy i'm going to have to charge extra. gotta keep em happy. but i try to account for "just in case" extra shit in the bid ahead of time
Hey Steve if the system has a leak and you charge it with R22 without fixing the leak or using some sort of sealent, wouldnt that be low on charge again? Customer may complain that it was charged up already so why are we charging it again.
My Tif 9010 scale went into the trash. It was very unreliable. The 9010A was a much better scale and apparently very little in common with the 9010. I have been much happier with the AccuTools DS-220.
hell if they're willing to pay to put r22 in an old crusty unit like that, whatever!. just put in a 1.5 ton weather king (cube), matching uncased ICP coil, disconnect, whip, 15' of 10-2 romex, a 20 amp double pole breaker, 40' of 18-2 t-stat wire and used every bit of a 30' 3/4" x 3/8" lineset today for $1650. good vid, Steve.
Sam Solomon i'm actually embarrassed to say. i am not the owner, just a lowly tech. without getting into too much detail, my boss (owner) bids jobs "not so great". he then proceeds to complain about not making any money (i still get paid tho). the business is basically an excuse for him to get out of the house and cheat on his wife while me and another guy do the work! me and my co-worker do nice neat work tho. i will say we get swamped with work with his dumbass pricing. i wish youtube would allow pic uploads, i'd show ya some.

Thanks for shower how you write up the bill!
Ole Armstrong, looks like 80 model. Gas/go and get her new system.Summer is here,Steve
Your a hardcore steve Lav fan I can tell lol
That old thermostat is like a copy of the one I had in the 80's before Mercury was taboo
Good job. She's an oldy for sure.

That is why it's called a gas and go. He told her it was a leaker and she is getting a quote for a new one.
what does the R22 goes for these days?
Lol, didnt see the bill, $100 per pound.
How cold do people keep their houses up there if they need the AC when its 70 outside?
Robert L It was in the high 80s, and 95 one day, last week. Temperatures can fluctuate allot around here.

$100 a pound that is a good price for R22.small hvac company here selling $175 a pound.
Ebay about $22 LB delivered. LOL
$96/hr for labour? Nice
hi Steve
Why do you not just weigh it as you take it out?
One less thing to take off the truck. Weigh it at the truck and weigh again when finished.
It's good for at least 6 more months !

Spector NS5 RD 1650? How much would you make of that, $500? What about all your business expenses. Are you an owner or a tech?
