  • You’ve probably lost or broken some of the excellent EDC flashlights I’ve reviewed for you over the years. Time for an upgrade! I went on a hunting expedition for the most compact, powerful, and capable EDC light being made right now. I came up with the Olight S20R. They are many excellent EDC lights but this is a current TNP favorite: easy to use non-complicated UI, super bright, perfect beam pattern, waterproof, 5 yr warranty, deep carry pocket clip, powerful 186450 rechargeable power cell (included, easy to buy more, link below), durable, and very affordable. Unlike many AA or AAA powered lights, this Olight S20R will have longer burn times, especially in the useful Moonlight mode. Brief POU discussion included. If you used the link below you’ll also get the cool light cones, USB night light, and USB adaptor. You’ll see me carry this S20R lots now.///////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10

    Maybe my favorite EDC light now: easy to use non-complicated UI, super bright, perfect beam pattern, waterproof, 5 yr warranty, deep carry pocket clip, powerful 186450 rechargeable power cell (included, easy to buy more, link below), durable, and very affordable. Buy quick before Amazon runs out of this cool kit for just $60! -Nutnfancy actual

      +nutnfancy Undoubtedly the best light I owned...for about 2 weeks. Tailcap went wonky, customer service walked me through some 'home repair' attempts. No good, so they sent me a new tailcap, and scored serious customer service points. After following their instructions when the new tailcap didn't solve everything, they decided the 'circuitry was bad', and it needed to be sent in for repairs. The CS tech I have been talking to has said the warranty was for repairs, not replacements. My Olight has been in their 'overseas repair facility' for over 2 months now, and they are losing points in my book. Keeping my fingers crossed, glad I have other EDC lights.

      +Fighter Doc FAIL! I ordered my S20R from Amazon and got it on 11/25/15. Would not cycle through all of the functions and was always on some version of dim mode. Sent Olight a message and they asked me to use a pen to reset the button on the charging end and when that didn't help they asked me to send it in. Now as of 1/30/16 I still have no flashlight and have been told that my S20R has been shipped overseas for repair with no known
      return date. Have you got yours back yet?

      +ScramBowledEggs After Davey Jones comment above, I contacted the company again. (I keep using the same email thread so I have a record of the conversation.) I remarked that it had been a long time since I had heard from them, and had hoped to have my flashlight by now, so I would just like a replacement. At the end of December, I reminded them that I would like a replacement, as I had not heard anything. It is time for me to email them again. I am not a happy camper. Great EDC light for 2 weeks (very light use), but for what I paid, I would have liked it to last longer.

      +Fighter Doc I contacted my Amazon seller and asked them to contact Olight on my behalf the same day I posted my first comment. Received a replacement yesterday. $65 and three months later I have a light. Not sure if it was the comment or the Amazon seller that got it done. So far this one works but was missing items from my original purchase. I like the light but man what a hassle. Hope they get better and hope you get yours soon.

    I've got two S20's and bought a couple more for friends.... bought them as soon as they came out , maybe 4-5 years ago? Still working perfectly, after using them while snorkeling, for attracting fish/sqiud (up to -20m), camping, hiking... love them.

    For any of you discounting what nutnfancy is saying about a light saving your life- you're wrong.
    My light played a VERY big part in saving my life. I was run over by a drunk (I was riding home on my motorcycle), and I was stuck laying in the road at night with a broken leg. I would have been run over again, no doubt, if I wouldn't have had my Olight ST25baton with me to signal with.

    Thank you Nutn' I've watched and loved your videos for a few years now. The thoroughness of your reviews have sold a FourSevens Quark tactical cr123 and a Cold Steel Voyager medium. Your review was very helpful in my purchase of my M&P9 mm. Keep doing what your doing, I was hoping a new light review was coming up. I like this Olight S20R, but as of 8pm est 8/4, Amazon sold out.

    been carrying a s20 baton for over a year now and love it. Got some family members hooked on it too.
    Don't forget the locking feature on the light. From off, press and hold the button. The light will turn on in moonlight mode for a second and then shut off. Once off, take your finger off the button. To turn on, press and hold the button. This prevents the accidental turn on.

    I have been carrying the S10R Baton since Christmas and absolutly love it! It just runs a single rechargeable CR123 so it is shorter. I love the UI as well as the mode spacing, it is very functional. I work in the oil field and can often be caught out after dark, no worries with this light, I always have a couple of standard CR123s in my get home bag. One thing I wanted to mention that you left out of the vid is that the magnet is in the tailcap of the light and not in the charger. This allows you to stick the light to anything metal such as under a car hood etc. Also with the positioning of the pocket clip (especially on the smaller S10R) you can clip it to th brim of you ball cap and have one hell of a head lamp. Great review btw, TNPr since 2008. Keep it up, oh and gear check me anytime ;)

    I've been using the S30R for about 6 months now after upgrading from the 4/7s quark pro. It's a tad bigger than the S20, but worth it for my POU. I was iffy on the side button, but after some getting used to it, think it's fantastic! Great review, I finally had a leg up on Nutn, lol. And glad I did. Just got mine delivered from Amazon and it's a great recommendation, probably the best $65 I've spent in a long time. I can't believe how bright this compact light is and the beam pattern is fantastic. Additionally, the light feels like it is very well made. The deep pocket carry is nice and I really like the magnetic attachment to charge.. May buy another for the house. I don't think you can go wrong with this light, unless you pass.

    There is also a safety on the flight switch. Simply continuous hold in the button from the off position until it comes on, keep holding till it goes of. Then you will not be able to turn the light on without a 4 second press.. This prevents the switch from being bumped on in your pocket and draining your battery. a very useful feature. The clip is also easily removable.

    I bought one of these lights after watching your video, which I greatly appreciate. Looks like a great light! I have been carrying the fenix e12 for about six months. Fenix sells a clip on their site that fits this light. I love that this is AA compatible because you can find them anywhere. I look forward to giving this light a try at some point.

    Amigo! Good review. I carried the non rechargeable s20 baton for 2 years. I love it. I still have it in my Edc bag , but I switched to the fenix pd22 ultimate edition. It's even slimmer and shorter. Powered by 1 cr123. The one feature about the Olight that you forgot to mention is the magnetic tail cap. This seriously rocks. Especially if you're looking under the hood of your car at night and need to be hands free.

      The rechargeable line by olight also has one in that form factor.
      S30R: 18650 high output
      S20r: 18650 with lower output but smaller lighter building
      S15r: 14500 in light rechargeable, can run on regular AA
      S10r: CR123a equivalent li-ion in light rechargeable (16340?) and CR123a compatible if needed
      Personally not a fan of the interface but check them out, you may prefer them.

    nutnfancy like you stated in your USK series of videos to use lithium batteries, I have switched to Energizer Lithium batteries in my Streamlight ProTac 2AAA flashlight. I have carried a Zebralight H502 AA headlamp/floodlight for a year and a half. It's a 90-degree compact light that is very bright and easy to operate. A single AA high-quality alkaline battery lasts plenty long. It's durable as hell, having been dropped many, many times and nary a blip. It can be carried clipped to a pocket, as I usually do, or it comes with a headlamp band and converts easily. The headband isn't very comfortable for long term use, but the versatility is worth the tradeoff for me. Keep in mind, it has almost zero throw, and is pretty much just a flood, but for around camp, and for quick, handy light, it's a great light.

    Side note for fellow tnprs..if you need a thin durable pen light that is actually pen sized ( fits in holes , decent burn 3 5 hrs all stainless) go check out coast A9R.. It has its own internal lipo cell and recharges using any usb or supplied adapters..light lens end just plugs into charge nipple its idiot proof and the nicest small actually pen size light I've found..also run it daily for 18 months with zero issues.

    Cool review Nutn. I have the Thrunite T10 which is a similar size that I EDC. It's a great light and takes 1 standard double A which I love. Their is something to be said for lights that you can throw any old standard battery in and go.

  • @astrangeone
    @astrangeone 9 лет назад

    What flashlight you'd find on me:
    - The Thrunite T10T (I really love the crazy brightness of the thing...and it's pretty cool...and I love the fact they use AA's...it gets a little finicky when the battery is dying/running out of juice. And the titanium look just screams cool.)
    - sometimes the Thrunite Ti2 (if I'm going into a polite area) I pocket this if I just need a no nonsense light that just works. Plus the direct drive means that I don't have to worry that the juice is going to run out. It fits perfectly into a coin pocket on your jeans, and makes me feel organized!
    - sometimes the Streamlight Microstream, Carried if I need to use the pocket clip. The rubber boot is a little hard to push although.
    Camping/security job = Nitecore MH10 (love the UI, and the easy access to strobe and the lovely battery rechargeable thing). This thing is practically a damn lightsaber. I've found that I can poke it into a pocket, but the holster kind of annoys me.

    I've been carrying the S20 batton for over a year now. I carry it with rechargeable 18650 (I bought mine before the S20R batton came out). You missed pointing out a couple features. The clip is perfect for the brim of a hat allowing hands free. The magnetic base comes in handy too for tasks like under the hood of a car. Plus you didn't mention that the button glows when your power gets low. I love this light.

    I have been using the Fenix tk15 for several years now. It works well for me as my job requires me to use a flashlight frequently. I have had the issues of the back sticking out of my pocket too much, very annoying. It is also a little bulky to carry all the time as nutnfancy says (I got used to it). I ordered this light as soon as I got done watching the video. It is brighter, more compact, and easier to use. Not to mention it uses the same battery. Time to retire the old Fenix. It will probably be a new car light.

    I've been carrying the S10 for a while now (years?). Back when I bought it I couldn't believe you were still recommending lights without pocket clips, easy-to-access moonlight mode, and that took inferior AA(A) batteries, had inconvenient UIs (head twist, tail buttons), etc. The only times I wish I had double the battery energy (S20 vs. S10) are when I run on high power for extended periods of time, but most of the time when I do that it's to show off the light and if I ran at medium mode it would last as long as I need.

    I bought my first S20 about 2 years ago. Now I have 4. 2 are strapped to my labs harness and they get used Daily. Only negative about the s20r is the magnet isn't strong enough to hold horizontal. The regular S20 will hold great

    You need to review the S2 Baton. Same diameter, but very slightly shorter and 950 lumens.

    Great review! I was just looking for my first EDC light but I was looking for a smaller light, a penlight. I looked at the streamlight but I wanted something a little brighter, so I went with Thrunite Ti4, AMAZING penlight at 250L.

    Nutn! You neglected to mention two of the best features of this light. The way the pocket clip is oriented you can clip it to the brim of a hat to go hands free, and the magnetic tail cap.

    Had one flashlight I forget make and brand but that little beast was powerful flashed some friends with it in a dark room and they couldn't see for a few minutes. It had this nice little focus feature which narrowed the beam down to cover an area of 4-6 inches square at 15 feet from a wall pretty nice but heavy.

    For me it's too thick for my pant, I still use and love Nextorch K3 for EDC. I prefer these 18650s as "bag light", the secondary one that you put in your bags that you usually use, I got my Convoy S2+ in my bag all the time.

    The deal breaker for me with most these lights is the UI. The 4sevens is about the only UI I really like because I can keep it in my pocket ready to go on max, and just twist the bezel before turning it on if I want moonlight. Without a tail switch I also would hesitate to use it for defensive purposes as it's just awkward trying to fumble with side buttons.

    Everyday im rocking the fenix pd35! This light is tough, its taken some serious abuse and it just hasnt given out. Unlike the thrunight, i view this as a duty light. Cool thing is you change brightness from 15 lumens all the way up to 850! So if battery consumption is paramount, 15 lumens is great, but i carry a spare 18650 so i leave it at its max. When this finally gives out, I'm getting the 2014 version which is 960 lumens!

    nutnfancy I'd love to know your opinion on the newer ThruNite Ti4 Penlight. Similar to the Streamlight that you've raved about for years with a much deeper carry pocket clip.
    Great video, as always. Their charging system is amazing. Love the fact that if you're on the side of the road at 4am and have to replace a fan belt you can just stick the Olight to your hood and have an excellent area work light. Really surprised that more manufacturers haven't started doing the magnetic tail caps.

    • @jake51515
      @jake51515 9 лет назад +1

      Johnny Cash ive seen thrunight lights break after being dropped once. Thrunights are a worse version of fenix lights.

    • @johnnycash8150
      @johnnycash8150 9 лет назад

      jake51515 I ran my TN12 over with my dad's V8 truck multiple times trying to break it and couldn't, so I threw it off a bridge,again, trying to break it. Couldnt.. It's still in my pocket today, running away. And it costs 1/3 less than the Fenix PD35.
      that being said, I don't hate Fenix lights, my backup light is a Fenix LD02, and Fenix also has great customer service, but my LD02 has broken before, and my TN12 has not. And almost all Fenix products are 1/3 more than the Thrunite equivalent.

    • @jake51515
      @jake51515 9 лет назад

      Johnny Cash ive never seewm a thrunight withstand the abuse of a surefire. Its 1/3 the price for a reason, because its just of lesser quality. Im not saying they suck, all im saying is you get what you pay for. For an edc light the thrunight is great, but again, they're not met to be abused like that. Can they withstand it? Idk, like i said jarhead6 and gunsandgear did reviews on the light you claimed to have ran over with your truck. Jarheads broke after dropping it 3xs and gunsandgear the first time. So forgive me if i have trouble believing its taken that kind of abuse.

    I prefer the S15R, it uses the 14500 rechargeable and can use a AA in place. It is a little lighter so I use the magnetic base to hold it to the inside of the car hood when checking oil and such.

  • @sixtofive
    @sixtofive 9 лет назад

    I tried the streamlight 2aaa, but for just a little more bulk I still find myself much preferring the 2aa version. Brighter light and longer burn time, especially if you go with the energizer platinum batteries. With regular use I've found I usually get 3 - 4 times the battery life for about twice cost. With standard edc use I'll get 6 months on two AA's. Try the AAA platinum version on your 2aaa and I'll bet you look at it differently.

    For my Shirt Pocket EDC is the Streamlight Stylus that takes the three "AAAA" batteries (white, red or green LED). That goes with any Pen that takes a Fisher Space Pen Refill ! And some times a Laser Pointer. The OLIGHT also had a positive review by the computer geek, TheUrbanPrepper if you want a second opinion ! Great light for plugging into the home computer or car power outlet-must get one SOOON. Have the Fenix PD32 by the compuer now and still using the original two CR123 batteries. The CR123 batteries are also used in the UV water purifier (only use 20% power of the batteries) Thank you for another Great Video ! ! !

I was just wondering, what do you think about Zebralights products, I personaly use them and i think you would be verY pleased with the build quality, output, value and they are light dude. The best thing is rhe UI. Keep the great work, take care. Greetings from Slovakia

    Fenix e11 is my personal favorite EDC light. It is about 3/8" longer than a tube of chapstick and maybe 1/4" - 3/16" wider. It runs for about 8 to 9 hrs on low with its singe AA NiMH battery (only slightly less with alkaline). Although the low setting is only rated at 35 lumens, it seems way brighter and has a throw of well over 30m. With a NiMH battery, it weighs just under 2oz. Only cost me $30 on amazon; it's a shame they discontinued it.

    Current gear check: PT-111 Pro in the pocket, extra mag, Ontario RAT-1, ear plugs, wallet, keys, cell phone...no flashlight. I bought a very nice light (Fenix LD-22), but it was reducing my pants and shorts to tatters. Too many sharp edges.
