It was great having Nick T join me for the first week of the bike tour. We had some good times together! Maybe he can join up a little later on down the road for another round! Today we had some beautiful weather for this journey from Toyama to Takaoka. Didn't make it too far in this one. Nick T had to catch the train and I needed to get some work done! So I spent around 6 hours in the cafe trying to get episode 1 out finally! If you haven't seen it check it out here! ruclips.net/video/YtEebwqD9F4/видео.html
What do you think of the bike tour so far? Lemme know!

It’s really nice to see Japan with your bike tour. Would it be hard for you to put a map where you’re going?

Hi Nick, You CAN take a regular bike on a train over there. You have to remove the front wheel and the fork and put it all in a bag (it's called 輪行 {rinko}). You have to pay a bit extra for "large luggage" (特大荷物 tokudai nimotsu). There's a long tradition of "rinko". I've taken both folding bikes (Dahon, Bike Friday) and full-sized bikes (Surly Long Haul Trucker) on Japanese trains).
    Tailwinds!

What do you think? Can you bike tour or bike pack with a folding bike long term?

I startet 15 years ago on a regular touring bike and covered 50.000 km around the world. Sinne 4 years im travelling only on my bike friday (15.000 km and counting) I consider These bikes as highly capable of touring. We are just getting ready for our one year long bike tour tour through Japan, Korea, Vietnam,Philippines ….. Could you share with us your route for Japan? Thanks and enjoy your trip ;)

This is great, I fly to Osaka tomorrow, checking out Kobe brompton store and will pop over to Tokyo for life bicycle - the plan, grab the p line 12 speed and attempt to go along cape sata up to cape soya, or as best I can along the prefecture roads. Have no clue if I'll make it, but that will be half the fun.

First of all, congratulations for the video. I biked from Rome to Athens and also all around Sri Lanka with a brompton and I must say that I enjoyed a lot. A part of that I must say that everything was easier than travelling with a “normal touring bike”.

I'm impressed you're speaking Japanese very well!
I wish if I could speak English like you're speaking Japanese.

Japanese rice balls are truly the most convenient snack!
That Dorayaki is also a world-famous snack, and it was Doraemon who made it famous!
Nick T’s folding bicycle is really cool. He can carry it for running, which is really convenient!
The scene when you followed him into the station move me so much. It is obvious that you have a good relationship with him!
I completely agree with what you said. Japan is really an extremely quiet country, which sometimes makes people very creepy.
In comparison, sometimes lively countries are more interesting!
Thank you very much for sharing such a touching episode, I’m very looking forward to the next one! 👍😍🙏

well, I like cold weather when I have a house and proper clothes for it. But for a bike touring I'm thinking tropical weather is better!

ahhh i see it! mannnn it was just a hoverair drone shot of the campsite from Haruna lake. The problem is I went back at the last moment and changed a couple things, and I have a few things on my desktop but sometimes my computer will put those files in the cloud when you're not using them... I usually catch it and redownload them but I guess I missed this one 😩

First-time visitor - liked and subscribed. About your comment that you can't take full-sized bikes on trains. Is that an across-the-board rule, or are there any exceptions? If not, that seems so limiting for bike tourists when they want to travel to other parts of the country by rail, with their bikes.

Brompton is good, I ride it too, but he need to manage the bike rack or bracket for the stuff, it sold separately from another brand which is suit for Brompton.

yeah he could probably work on his set up a little better. it started to squeak a lot towards the end of the trip, probably not a good sign!
