I have to say, Nick is on another level - cycling beast, learns multiple languages, youtuber, interacts with the locals etc. Takes a lot of skill, intelligence, endurance and personality to do all of that stuff. He's not a normal travel youtuber, he distinctly does different stuff that requires SKILL.

Your Japanese is not mediocre at all!
The most popular way to eat bamboo is to boil them in water and eat them with mayonnaise! Of course, it can be pickled or braised!
Japanese people really like to eat curry, but they like to eat sweet curry. Like me, I still like to eat spicy Indian curry!
The architecture of the Edo period is really special. I didn’t expect the locals to preserve those buildings for so long!
Your detailed introduction to their history helped me connect with that TV series!
The sunset in Kanazawa is so beautiful, thank you for such a wonderful episode! 👍😍🙌

finally... Kanazawa. part of me still there though. lived 4 years there, nice local community, and foreign community as well.
its a prefecture capital of Ishikawa, not so big but yet so many nice places. Higashichaya (the geisha district), 21st century museum, Omichou fish market (kanazawa well known for its sea of japan product), and i think you missed the Kenrokuen garden (just across the kanazawa castle, which actually there is no more castle because it was burned down cause of fire and never rebuild because there are no blueprint for it (if i was not mistaken), so you see there is only the outer wall of the Kanazawa castle.)
I think you are parking your bike near the entrance of kenrokuen garden (one of 3 most beautiful garden in Japan)
it is like mini Kyoto, you can walk, bike or take a loop bus to travel here half day. most of my friend came here from tokyo and Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya) in the morning. take a day trip, and then head back.
thank you for bringing such a lovely memories back Nick.

So I actually went to the castle that burnt down, yeah it’s just an open area now, next to the prefectural building I think. The moat is pretty damn impressive tho. I think I could live in Kanazawa, it was nice! First time I went there was during the wintertime and I remember the oden was good!

@@NickKTravel agree, Kanazawa is a nice city to live, for foreigner there are a lot of acitvities. it has everything, easy to get around, apato quite cheap (at least near campus). we can experience the wonder of the 4 season of Japan. every season is sooo amazingly great. got beaches and matsuri for summer, wonder of Momiji , winter snow, and of course the Sakura..
btw, there are a lot of Sakura tree around the moat in the castle (and in Kenrokuen there are sakura tree from across japan).

My favorite city in Japan 3-4 visits , two or three while bicycle touring. Left Kanazawa last trip and took an inland route eventually coming out in Fukui.
