Do any of these have Cambodian owners? Silly things in English, US themed, they seem a bit out of place and not an organic development of the Cambodian bar scene.
Aside from what the locals would prefer, most tourists in Cambodia are from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos so i don't know, maybe expats as a target but that's a bit limiting.
Can you find some places with traditional food and live traditional music?
Tropical countries have vegetation all year round and outdoors temps are always ok too. Hmm maybe rooftop bars, easier to find sufficient outdoors space in the city and you escape the street noise a bit too.
lol sorry, i don't know why i went with the business aspect of it,maybe because most felt out of place and a way to escape Cambodia, not to be in Cambodia.

A few of them do have Cambodian owners. Locals like to try different stuff as well obviously. I know I'd be pretty sad if I would have to stick with sauteed reindeer and Finnish music in my home country. And no pizza. 😬

@@kimmohakala6099 The decorations confused me a bit, not the food/drinks.
And don't whine, you guys got salmiakk.
Anyway, it felt like it has to be foreign owners or lack of maturity, the scene yet to find its identity and also to embrace more of its own culture.

@@realjx313 Yeah, it will come. Eventually people will take ideas from here and there and create an own unique identity.

Thanks for watching my video! We reached out to a few of the owners and yes some are Cambodian. The customer base seems to be pretty diverse, with both locals and visitors. It's not exactly the place my uncles and aunts would go, but it seems to attract people because of its unique and hidden vibe. Phnom Penh has changed quite a bit over the years, and you'll find that a big city like this has so many different things to offer...both traditional and modern. Especially in a country where over 50% of its population is under the age of 30, you'll start to see more and more venues catering to their wants and likes. It will be interesting for sure to see how the country will continue to grow and I hope to share a bit of what that looks like through my lens. :)
