2:40 You raise it up not only so you meet the trailer but also so you don't bend the legs when doing the tug tests. I would love to see her do an assessment at Tesco.

This was very good to watch.
All the things you need to check before you move off.
Ordinary people like myself wouldnt know, but Iv often wondered. Something else Iv always wonddered about, is how you judge exactly where the front and sides of the tractor unit is when you are driving, particlarly in heavey traffic. For example, a town quite local to me (Im from Ireland), has a long narrow main street. Just off the main there is a large bakery, and on the south end of the town is a medium size factory, and a large mill that produces amimal feed. All of these businesses have several artics, with the mill having about 25 alone.
The town is continually blocked, as the artics make their way through, taking care to aviod cars, tractors etc.
The lorrys often have only centimetres to spare as they make their way through.
Im always impressed at how skilled the drivers are, as there is rarely if ever a collision.
Is it difficult to judge exactly how close you are to parked vehicles, when your up so high in the cab?

you have plenty of mirrors to see your blind spots, and you get used to the size of the vehicle just like you do In a car 😊

WoW imagine paying your money take your test & failed, not on your driving but the fact you never checked the height !!

Nice video, I past my test 15 months ago and still loving most of the life of trucking. I always listen for the double click on the 5th wheel and do 3 tug tests and never dropped a trailer, another thing is skid plates can cause problems with low trailers but they do save the body work. Another trick if you have a trailer that's been dropped too high and your struggling to wide the legs up and its fully loaded, let the truck idle and wind them up. It saves alot of hassle

Is an air system check part of the test. Involves fanning the brake pedal until alarm sounds and brake valves release. Then time the build up of air.

Switch engine off so you can hear air leaks whist coupling up also saves fuel not leaving idling..

not sure if you know, but supposedly if the dog clip chain isnt fixed to the 5th wheel, and loose like you had in your hand its a PG9 if its found on a roadside check, or atleast thats what i got despite having 2 dogclips to hand.

The safety clip is not there to stop the handle coming out, it is designed so that if it does not pass through the hole then the handle has not gone in fully meaning you have not coupled up correctly. The clip can be left off whilst driving regardless of what the DVSA tell you. Some truckers don't use the clip and use a padlock instead but either way you don't need to have anything in the hole once you have proved that you have coupled up correctly.
Also it is not good practice to leave the engine running whilist coupling/uncoupling as it wastes fuel and is not good for the environment

I always keep my hand hovering over trailer brake for a few seconds incase the whole thing starts rolling or moves for some reason , you are there to quickly push trailer break back on then. Should always do follow through checks on passing vehicles ( either side ) and especially pedestrians when passing close. Dont do that ... instant fail..

i`m an x instructor from when he was in nappies. he could learn to smile. its an assessment not a test. mirrors should be every 8 to 10 seconds in normal driving. the trailer should have had its height posted to the trailer. the assessor picked on the driver because he knows her, as such the assessment would be false it should have been taken by another assessor if it was a real assessment.

    • @truckerbaddie
      @truckerbaddie  Месяц назад

@@truckerbaddie yes. how tall are the ramps at the back....... as for you. if i was an examiner and you was on test with me i would have failed you.... you went round a roundabout with 1 hand on wheel and the other hand on the indicator, you was unsafe steering the obstacle (roundabout). also you entered your exit and as soon as the cab entered the exit you turned off the indicator before the trailer had left the roundabout. what would the people behind you think

I do that always ,im still learner . Depends on the instructor ,you may have hard times, but then easy practice alone. Some instructors only care their pass rate , not how you drive ... I belive you are good , maybe they waste too much of your training time to reverse and cupling uncupling . You need at least 16h on the road ... and if good instructor 4h max for all the rest. I had instructior that told me We here teaching you how to pass 2 of 4 days doing reverse and cupling ,uncapling ,he was wasting my time i did cupling on fist time ,second time too ...that was all for 4h ,nothing else he started late 30 min and he let me home 30 min early , Basta*d .... im like NOOO IM HERE TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE ,I DONT CARE ABOUT PASSING THE TESTS... when i know how to drive ,i will pass even instructor or examiner hates me and want me to fail ,sooo . I asked for my refund because that was ridiculous... Im only teaching you how to pass 😅😢😢😢. Out there are good instructors, and you have to be passionate learner and not allowing those with tricks to play their game with time managment nonsense . You pay the fee , no one cant be the boss of your own money and how they will be used...
