Where's your review and comparison for the dewalt 860?
My dad's Dewalt D21008 VSR 3/8 corded drill was made in 2002 and he is still using it to this day, no sign of damage even though it has put through tons of heavy uses and abuse. Dewalt made high quality stuff back then and still today. That right there made me a fan of Dewalt and my dad always say, buy Dewalt if you can. No surprise that the older Dewalt can be rejuvenated by the adapters and still be good enough for the job.
My great uncle was actually a top designer of that drill... crazy
VCG construction Vince I had a Milwaukee hammer drill like that it was a monster and still works the good old days I'm still smashing my like botton Texas style
Was it corded or one of the older cordless platforms Moises?
I still have and use my 5 piece set and other cordless dewalt from back when i was a carpenter. Disabled now. I buy amazon lithium batteries with the battery life detector on it. They work great. The ol brush style motors though if you dont use them for a spell will let a little smoke out. Its just the brushes seating back in and burning the glaze of of the brushes and armature. Clean the armature real quick before use if you dont want to let the smoke out.
I have two of the 3-speed & one 2-speed - 14.4 V DeWalt drills. I purchased four inexpensive replacement batteries from eBay that are reconstructed with Nickel-metal Hydride (NiMH) cells. I also got the smart (yellow) charger compatible for both NiMH & NiCd batteries. The NiMH are still going strong after nearly 10 years. They take about an hour to charge which makes them ready to go before I deplete a battery with moderate-to-heavy use. Also, NiMH have no "memory", can be charged from any level of discharge, and are good for hundreds of charges.
NiCd's are no longer available because Nickel and, especially Cadmium, are considered hazardous, heavy metals.
I am sure 18 V & 20 V NiMH batteries are available for the older tech tools as well.
Ive been buying Dewalt since I was a teen (over 30 years). East cost NYC. My first hand me down tool was a Makita impact drill (corded).
The best part on the old Dewalt drill is the chuck. The jaws don’t spin while while tightening down on your bit. That’s so nice for drill shanks with flats. I wish they would go back to that chuck.
Great video!
Thanks Max, hope you’re doing well!
Thank you for this video. I have the vintage 18 and 24 VOLT convertible system. The 24 volt still is the most powerful platform ever.
Thanks for sharing
No bells no whistles no electronics and they are still the best
It would have been interesting comparing the 18V drill's performance with the original 18V battery vs with the 20V Lithium.
Also, I am wondering how the performance is with the 20V Flex compares to the 20V Max.
Ahh man this scratched my TTR itch just a bit!
James “New england clam chowder” Porreca 😂😂😂
Can’t get in without the password
Makita seemed to be first to offer cordless tools for the trades. My first was a Porter-Cable Power Quench drill. Milwaukee released an awesome cordless drill made by Panasonic. Neither Porter-Cable or Milwaukee offered a full line of tools, just a drill. It was after that when Dewalt came on line with their cordless line.
You can get the adapter like I did and run the newer style battery😊🥰😍
I gave up my 18v dewalt when I left the trades in 2000 due to expensive replacement batteries. Bought a whole craftsman kit with 2 batteries for the price of 2 dewalt batteries. It was good enough for home use. Loved that old drill. My M12 now is probably as good as that old nicad drill.
Very Cool Vince 😎 👌🏾
Thanks Jamal, hope you’re doing well!
@VCGConstruction I'm here Buddy, hope everything is well on your end
I have had the Amazon adapters for a while and run my M18 batteries on all my old nicad DeWalts. Made awesome tools out of them!! I watch marketplace and can get many good tools cheap!!
Awesome cuz! Any particular reason why Milwaukee instead of DeWalt batteries?
@@VCGConstruction I went m18 with my newer tools so it is what I have.
I cant wait to hand off my extra tools to my son... He will be a Dewalt fan boy.
Nice thanks for the video and the info
I bought this adapter a while back and I love it
Great job brothers .👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice with the impacts
De-JIMMY !
🤣👍🏻
Congratulations on 600k subscribers
Thank you
Go Vince!
Nice vid!
I used to take cig breaks on jobs waiting for those stupid batteries to charge. You can get an adapter to run the new 20V batteries (18v under load BTW) on the older tools. I love that.
The old tube stick style batterie Makita was the 1st cordless tools i saw in the automotive trade. Then we had the Makita and dewalts. The Makita flashlight was nice back in that day. But looks like a dim candle in today's world. But they were tough.
checked mine in the shop its the hammer drill dw988 with xrp battery, surprised still has a charge haven't used in in over 5 years. I see there's a new dcf860 DeWalt impact coming out, looks pretty impressive
Nice video. I recently bought an old 18v 6.5" circ saw for $12.99 with a good Diablo 40t blade. The saw is in like-new condition, so I'll get an adapter from Amazon to see how it runs with a 20v battery...
I’ve got a set my father bought early 2000s still runs with nicads. Not strongest saws or fastest drills but they’re good set to keep around house
I have 2 of those adapters, it’s a pain in the butte to remove them from the tool!
I ran an 825 with a 20v adapter for years. worked perfectly fine and was basically unkillable.
I bought the combo kit probably 20 yrs ago hammer drill impact driver saw all circular saw and light and 2 batteries. I felt like I could build anything eventually I had to buy another set of batteries and yes they were pricey but at that point your invested. Then when those crapped out . I bought that piece of crap adapter to switch to the lithium. I ended up trying the Amazon 2 for 60 Nicad body with lithium internals and I’m pleasantly surprised. Yeah I have newer brushless stuff but for some reason I still grab the retros quite often.
Back in the day craftsman
Yes I Know because I have a lithium battery adapter and I have a old DeWalt 3 speed Hammer Drill it works with a 5 amp and a Flex Volt battery works well with it but DeWalt is coming out with a more powerful Hammer drill I think it's the DCD 1007 3 speed look for it👍
The older drill could've been up in smoke and sparking a lot due to tired motor brushes. Please make a comparison of tired brushes and normal ones, would appreciate that!
My first drill was a Black and Decker 6V drill driver
I have been using that adapter for years
The old ones were sure as hell stronger tho!
why doesn't any one talk about the 36volt tools dewalt had i loved mine
DeJimmy!!!!
He’s back in Black….
And Gold!
Its DeKnowledge!!! ⚫🟡⚫🟡
Hello Very Cool Gang.
The fact I have the same exact 18v drill 😅😅 my uncle, gave it to me lol 😅😅 makes me feel old!
You old sailor you, is it built for speed or comfort?
😂
It may be a bit heavy but it's a tank! The fact that one of the batteries still works amd holds a charge for a few months! I like it.
i bought the adapter and run the milwaukee batteries on my old dewalt drills
I have an 18 volt NiCad finish nailer that works great, but I bought an adapter for the new batteries, only to discover it will not work with the finish nailer. I had to get some knock-off ni-cad batteries on Amazon. From a pack of 2, only one works on that tool. It's a great nailer, but very finicky with batteries. I don't know why.
Not sure whether or not I want Carmen to see this… 😂🔥💨🤦🏻♂️
🤣
I just gave my old 8 piece kit to my neighbor last year as I made the final transition to 20v for everything.
I had the xrp serious. Vicious drill. It spun my arm in a Joist Bay running wire
Beast mode. You should have never switched! ⚫🟡⚫🟡
9:14 and thats why the legit dewalt one wont let you put anything bigger than a regular 5.0 on the adapter...
We still use these in a machine shop to deburr
I still work dewalt 24v tools with 20v batteries..with adaptor
All my dads stuff was makita and all the OGs I work with their old stuff and their stuff today is makita or they made the switch to Milwaukee
@vcgconstruction I bought adapters for my 18 volt DeWalt tools that allows the use of M18 Milwaukee red lithium batteries.
They need to make the adapter smaller and flatter
Stitch it!
If Makita had these during the Pandemic I would still be running my old Ni-Cads instead of LXT...
edit: K nevermind, posted just before the smokeshow lol, I'm good with LXT...
My dad just got done buying everything dewalt 18volt and cause there isn’t as many fine electronics he’s had great luck running third party batteries and there $27
Did your dad buy the older 18v nicad platform?
@@VCGConstruction yes sir he started buying them when they where closing everything out and then he’s searched auction sites and other places and now has about ever tool in that line
@@arbuckleworkshop9857 awesome!
I bought a Milwaukee nicad drill. Batteries lasted 1 year and they wanted $180 each for bats. I put the drill down in the store and walked out. I paid 200 for the drill kit. I forever left Milwaukee behind
Can still beat the modern day makita 🤣
Without protection I wouldn’t run those expensive new batteries. Unlike Ni Cad batteries lithium ion doesn’t like to be run to full depletion. I remember guys switching from drop to makita lxt with pre star protection and cooking the batteries. Btw who buys a battery… aren’t they free when you buy the expensive tools!
They were good drills and they still work, It is annoying that Dewalt change the battery platform. Dewalt has lost most of my business to Milwaukee. I have the adapter but it still makes me angry at Dewalt.
shtop shluring your words, sheriously.
@vcg construction Hello Vin and James.
Yooo Larry, hope you’re well!
@@VCGConstruction as good as can be expected.thanks
