  • Randy Travis - Diggin Up Bones (1986). Lyrics included. From the album "Storms of Life". Possibly the best Randy Travis song ever!
Check out my channel for more great country tunes
Last night I dug your picture out from our old dresser drawer
I set it on the table and I talked to it 'til four
I read some old love letters right up 'til the break of dawn
Yeah I've been sittin' alone diggin' up bones
Then I went through the jewelery and I found our wedding rings
I put mine on my finger and I gave yours a fling
across this lonely bedroom of our recent broken home
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhuming things that's better left alone
I'm resurrecting memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight i'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
And I went through the closet and I found some things in there
Like that pretty neglige that i bought you to wear
And I recall how good you looked each time you had it on
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhuming things thats better left alone
I'm resurrecting memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm resurrecting memories of love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
    (Paul Overstreet/Al Gore/Nat Stuckey)

Let's just say I've never been a country music "enthusiast", don't even listen to it, but I can 'Appreciate' music from country all the way to Mozart. And I liked Randy Travis the first time I saw him on some short clip on some TV show some many, Many, years ago. It was something about him, personally. He struck me as a good person with a good heart and a good soul. And, to me, what a Man is supposed to be.
And I'm thinking it might have been a talk show because I'm fairly sure he hadn't even sang yet. :o And when he did, I was sure that my opinion of him was correct.

miss country when i was growin up in the 70s and 80s. soooo many great songs i used to listen to on 99.9 kiss fm here in miami. this new country aint no good. only the classic shit was good.

Thanks Tessa cook and Pete moss. The older country was the real deal. I miss the ambience of the 70s as I'm sure you guys do too. Peace

Yeah, it's too bad. The quality of 70's, 80's, and actually even select early 90's songs/artists can't even be compared to todays shit country music. I sympathize with George Jones' "Who's gonna fill their shoes" George Straight and Alan Jackson also hit the nail on the head when they sang "Murder On Music Row."

Last night I dug your picture out from our old dresser drawer
I set it on the table and I talked to it 'til four
I read some old love letters right up 'til the break of dawn
Yeah I've been settin' alone diggin' up bones
Then I went through the jewelry and I found our wedding rings
I put mine on my finger and I gave yours a fling
Across this lonely bedroom of our recent broken home
Yeah tonight I'm settin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhumin' things that's better left alone
I'm resurrectin' memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah, tonight I'm settin' alone diggin' up bones
And I went through the closet and I found some things in there
Like that pretty negligee that I bought you to wear
And I recall how good you looked each time you had it on
Yeah tonight I'm settin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhumin' things that's better left alone
I'm resurrectin' memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm settln' alone diggin' up bones
I'm resurrecting memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm settin' alone diggin' up bones
    I'm diggin' up bones
Exhumin' things that's better left alone
I'm resurrectin' memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm settin' alone diggin' up bones
    I'm diggin' up bones
Exhumin' things that's better left alone
I'm resurrectin' memories of a love that's dead and gone

Your right, Jen, no one is busting down my door too be with me or has ever in 50 yrs asked me about my future. I am odd, Jennifer. I fight using 1 punch and it annihilates you. They named me, IV.

I hope he's not suffering going through what he is but I know he'll always have a special place in my heart and mind... Love you buddy

Today is one year that I lost my Dad and being from a rural area in Canada when I turned 19 and was able to go out with my parents, local bands would play this song and my dad and I would dance to it, I learned so much from him, and to anyone who has a good stepparent just remember they chose to be a part of your life even when they don't have to be, and my dad was an amazing man, to me he wasn't a stepparent he was a dad in every sense of the word and I miss him dearly.
