Last night I dug your picture out from our old dresser drawer
I set it on the table and I talked to it 'til four
I read some old love letters right up 'til the break of dawn
Yeah I've been sittin' alone diggin' up bones
Then I went through the jewelery and I found our wedding rings
I put mine on my finger and I gave yours a fling
across this lonely bedroom of our recent broken home
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhuming things that's better left alone
I'm resurrecting memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight i'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
And I went through the closet and I found some things in there
Like that pretty neglige that i bought you to wear
And I recall how good you looked each time you had it on
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones
Exhuming things thats better left alone
I'm resurrecting memories of a love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
I'm resurrecting memories of love that's dead and gone
Yeah tonight I'm sittin' alone diggin' up bones
(Paul Overstreet/Al Gore/Nat Stuckey)

I was not raised to love country music, but there was reasons why I learned that I did love it. This song was one of those reasons.
This song has been playing in my head for three days on repeat.

one time I made my daughter listen to this song over and over in my ‘82 Caprice Classic on cassette when she was like 8 ... on the way to her dentist ... I was having an emo moment that day and it’s our favourite song to this day...
This is how country music should sound.
Hello Tracie 👋 how are you??
Amen. Perfect comment for this song - My beloved and I were fortunate enough to have seen him perform here in Izmir Turkey and everyone was so grateful for him coming here to entertain us. He put on a great performance for us and one we all enjoyed, although many of us were not Country & Western fans.
Amen
I love to hear Randy Travis sing, one of my all-time favorites. He is like a diamond, and his wife is like his sparkle, which keeps him going. Which makes them Gold together. ❤
How are you doing today
30 yrs of marriage...i dont know how many times i sat and dug up bones ...
But are you and him still together?? I always thought this song was about him reminiscing about his lost love after a break up?? Maybe im wrong sorry to be so nosy stay safe

Hello Pamela 👋 how are you ??
When I was little we used to travel Australia in trucks and caravan, my dad always had Randy playing when we travelled. He died when I was only eight but I’ll always have these memories ❤️
His voice is so calming.
Best song of his a country classic!!!
I agree! So much truth in his voice.
If you was raised in the 2000s you had to listen to this kind of music 😅
I’m a metal head, and this to me is still one of the greatest voices of all time.

Diggin up Bones!!! Love that song!!! RIP Randy Travis! Thanks for the GREAT memories 😢
He has a voice of liquid gold.... its amazing...
Jami Miller Why not just regular gold???
Liquid gold is much smoother, of course, and it has an inimitable flow.
Jami Miller could not be told better
Randy and George, two voices without equal
yeah, Randy truly had that it factor in his voice. :)
He is the reason I listen to country music started in 1989
Me too!!!!!

If y’all haven’t, check out this song he just released: Fools Love Affair! It so amazing ♥️
Real country here!! Most relevant to me.. Awesome how it speaks to us.. "Memories can be fuedal stumps still growing clones"..We definitely like excavating,, them old stories are very important.
Reminds me of how folks say, dont be bias, like they have ever had control over any variables, but they will always want to. Its human nature.
I remember this song from when i was a child. Dad had a cassette player in his trail duster....almost everytime this song played....my old mans eyes would become watery. I never knew why....fast forward 40 years and im here doing the same thing after dealing with the big D.....sometimes life has a crazy way of teaching u things
and I recall how good you looked each time you had it on..
I love his voice
Jesse Dellinger he's testifying, I think we lost that to a big extent in music. But it's hard to be that good, I've tried
I wonder how many paleontologists have gotten a copy of this single in their Christmas stockings.
lol that's funny!

WichitaGuy56 Way more than that, i took a survey
Good one!
or grave-robbers
My papa used to play this song in the car all the time. This is the first I've listened to it in a long time.
Let's just say I've never been a country music "enthusiast", don't even listen to it, but I can 'Appreciate' music from country all the way to Mozart. And I liked Randy Travis the first time I saw him on some short clip on some TV show some many, Many, years ago. It was something about him, personally. He struck me as a good person with a good heart and a good soul. And, to me, what a Man is supposed to be.
And I'm thinking it might have been a talk show because I'm fairly sure he hadn't even sang yet. :o And when he did, I was sure that my opinion of him was correct.
I hate how people are making jokes about this song. Its a country classic
+FantaTheLion Who cares? They don't even know. We know it's a great song!
Now why in the f*** would you make fun of this song that just shows your f****** ass dumb f***

But why does he have her ring, and her clothes? He doesn';t say she died so... why does he have all her stuff?
@@vinny142 She left a negligee that he bought her, and her wedding ring. Not wanting anything that reminds her of him.
This is a bad ass tune!!!
My papa died but i miss him playing this song but i fownd it!

I'll say, one night, years ago, my first wife left. I listened to this song 23 times in a row!! I know this , because each time I played it I drank a beer. At the end of the night the tape gave out , I looked and I had one beer left out of a case of 24. Man that's been 25 years ago, but I still remember.
This shit made me burst out loud laughing
charley pride and randy travis who could ask for more great music
I love this remember when it was released,kinda.....
My sister and I love this song so much we listen to it all the time. And we also listen to forever and ever Amen all the time.
My grandfather ,Al Gore (singer/songwriter not the Vice President), cowrote this song with Paul Overstreet. I can hear him singing it in the kitchen every time it plays. My Pa died in 2004 and it still gives me chills to hear Randy Travis sing it as it did the very first time.♥️

Two of my favorite singers Randy Travis & George Jones I hope your having a great day today Randy.
I miss you and George. You get well soon Randy. Thank you for all the years of music,
My grandma raised me and as a kid (my memory) every sunny weekend she'd be cleaning or cooking front door open screen door closed house nice and cool with randy Travis blaring on her 8 cd player radio. I miss you grandma thank you for this life! I miss you
Digging up your grandmother's bones
miss country when i was growin up in the 70s and 80s. soooo many great songs i used to listen to on 99.9 kiss fm here in miami. this new country aint no good. only the classic shit was good.
Thanks Tessa cook and Pete moss. The older country was the real deal. I miss the ambience of the 70s as I'm sure you guys do too. Peace
Yeah, it's too bad. The quality of 70's, 80's, and actually even select early 90's songs/artists can't even be compared to todays shit country music. I sympathize with George Jones' "Who's gonna fill their shoes" George Straight and Alan Jackson also hit the nail on the head when they sang "Murder On Music Row."
Yeah stevesbc406 words of wisdom. I grew up on all kinds of music and it seems to have all gone to shit brother. Thanks, and peace
Thank you for the like and keep it southern. Peace
This man is definitely one of a kind. His music, his voice, and his style of singing are so unique. He is really great
Yes but he obviously listened to alot of Lefty Frizzell and George Jones.

Your right, Jen, no one is busting down my door too be with me or has ever in 50 yrs asked me about my future. I am odd, Jennifer. I fight using 1 punch and it annihilates you. They named me, IV.
this was the first song I have in my memory from being a kid, I don't know why but it is and I remember singing with that tape constantly and I just think he's got one of the best voices to ever play country music... Randy travis is the ULTRA HIGH G.O.A.T
All of his songs are catchy, I could listen to Randy Travis every day. That's what I call true country. His gospel songs made me feel at ease.

Today is one year that I lost my Dad and being from a rural area in Canada when I turned 19 and was able to go out with my parents, local bands would play this song and my dad and I would dance to it, I learned so much from him, and to anyone who has a good stepparent just remember they chose to be a part of your life even when they don't have to be, and my dad was an amazing man, to me he wasn't a stepparent he was a dad in every sense of the word and I miss him dearly.
+Cyn Gab so sorry. lost mine 21 years ago and music brings him back to me too
Thank you, sometimes it's still hard
Cyn Gab I'm sorry man I just lost my grandpa this November and he loved this song. So now I'm sitting up here digging up bones about me and him

It is so sad that he can’t sing anymore so to his stroke singing was his passion he had an amazing voice
people in my family think I don't like country I do like country but only good county like Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Garth Brooks, George straight and etc.
I like 90s and back but maybe a few from early 2000s
