Hi Julie. My mum is a quilter and linked me to your video. She has made some masks from your pattern and they look beautiful. I thought I’d give it a go. I just wanted to tell you because I’m a complete novice, have only done a tiny bit of sewing before; even winding a new bobbin is a terrifying ordeal for me. And yet today I sat down and made ten of these masks for my friends. And they all turned out pretty fabulous. A couple of wonky lines here and there but overall they look great and I’m very proud. So thank you for your lovely clear video. I absolutely love my masks and can’t wait to show them off at work this week.
This is wonderful. I haven't been sewing for 6 years. Watching this video has reminded me of the excitement of sewing. I am so excited to make these for returning to college in the fall.
I have very limited experience and was able to make this mask! When I messed up and got frustrated, I just came and watched this video again. Your voice is very soothing and I was able to return to my project much calmer and with refreshed information in my mind. Thank you so much for making this video and pattern!
Wow this is one of the best videos I have seen on making masks. Thank you for the clear instructions and the step by step. You are amazing!! Thank you , you are a master!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!!
I found it easy to follow from the paper instructions and the tutorial is a plus. I didn't like making the rectangle masks, as I found those folds difficult. I like this one. Thank you!!!
Dear Julie, what a great tutorial!! I only have basic sewing skills, but your step by step instructions made it easy to follow along. I had my laptop on one side and the sewing machine on the other. I am very happy with the result: my mask looks great and it fits perfect. If I can do it, anybody can. Thank you very much for your help!!
Hi Julie, Just watched your video tutorial and your instructions are so nice and thank you for giving and showing all the options for the ear pieces. I love the look of your mask and like the fact that it is form fitting so to speak. I printed off your pattern and plan on making some tomorrow for my sister and family that live in another state and need them badly. Not sure on what size to make them. There are 3 adults and one ten year old girl. So I plan to watch the sizing video that you suggest. You are such a wonderful person, thank you and prayers for safety and good health to you and all of your family. Many hugs. Claudia
Very well done, Julie. Your explanations and video make it really easy to understand. It will make anyone successful I'm sure. Thank you. Another option for the single long tie is to use T-shirts. Just cut a 1" slice from the bottom of a T-shirt. Loop the circle of fabric over your hands and pull them out to the sides of your body to stretch the material. It will roll on itself and become longer and thinner. Then you only have to make a cut to create a long, stretchy tie that is very comfortable to wear. I have used them for masks for my daughter who is a nurse, and she finds them to be soft and easy to use.
Wonderful video, Julie. I made a couple of these masks when you posted the pattern on your website and, while your instructions were easy to follow, I'm so glad you decided to share this video. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and watching you make a mask was very helpful to me.
Thank you so much for this video. I stopped the video and did the step, started the video, went to the next step. Very easy to understand and follow. After making 4, I altered the pattern a bit by adding 1/2 inch to the bottom edge of both pieces and they seem to wrap a little around my chin and now they stay in place when I talk.
Do you have a video on the child pattern? I made the adult pattern which came out great for being my first time on a small sewing machine after 40 years. Just wanted to be sure I'm just to sew together then add ear elastic or if there is more than couple steps.
I made 3 masks with this tutorial today! Turned out lovely thanks to you. It's my first sewing machine and one of my first projects so thank you very much for all the help!!
Ohh so disappointed...i was hoping for more education about quilting from you.. Its November 2020..i saw your blog, too.. I will be content with instagram...

I love that you show different ear piece options.

The seam allowances in the front of the mask prevent the wire from sliding in the stitched pocket past the bridge of the nose.
