For anyone curious, Lupe was on IG Live like 2 weeks ago and said he was dropping a ton of simple singles (loosies) this summer. All are self-produced and in various styles to see what sticks. Sentrock, Checkin', Outside, and Channel No3 so far. Lu also was on Traxster's album on the track "The Singularity". The next album is 'Samurai'. It's a resurrection/mythology concept of Amy Winehouse being a battle rapping opera singer and slaying other rappers. Something like 8 tracks in the normal Lupe style over Soundtrakk's production. Most of that album has been done for years (Soundtrakk talked about it during the DMIZ Q&A's). After that, maybe Skulls (work in progress), maybe the verses he did for the CRS album will see the light of day.
This song really hit me because my life is like a video game. It perfectly captures the feeling of trying hard to beat the stage, all the while I'm still collecting coins.
His life is truly like a video game
Adoration of the Magi and T.R.O.N. you gotta listen to! Lupe songs for ya
The questions is are those songs really about video games, in the same way this song is about video games? Or are they a just a component of metaphor? Because if they are about video games i think Adoration of the Magi is the answer to his question what is the best song about video games
Well, Lupe has another song on his magnum opus Tetsuo and Youth (that you should def check out) titled 'Adoration of the Magi' which has a consistent throughline of videogames too to explore the 'street game'/'game of life'/'rap game'. I'd consider it his most conceptually layered song too.
I LOVE your Lupe reviews. Really hope you will get around to doing the first part of Drogas Wave (second part is nice too but its a looong album), I think you would have some very interesting things to say about it.
Lupe tweeted your video❤️🔥
That is great news!
@@professorskye oh and Lupe uses sound clips from Metal Gear Solid 5 on "In" from his Pharaoh Height tape.
Another great song about video games by Lupe is Adoration of the Magi, I think you would really enjoy that one.
Haven’t even heard it yet but knowing Lupe this could be about the intricate inner workings of the 1970s Rhodesian government and it’s disguised as a song about video games. The guy is the biggest genius in rap music and there’s 3 or 4 meanings to damn near every line he says to the extent his music is impossible to follow on first listen nearly every time
The best song about video games is “Little Weapon” by Lupe Fiasco off The Cool
There are 3 layers to Dinosaurs. 1- a silly billy story about dinosaurs for his nephews, 2- older artists operating in a newer era, and 3- the comparison between dinosaurs once ruling the earth and their subsequent extinction and modern man's treatment of the planet.
professor not sure if you picked this up but another dimension on Dinosaurs i picked up on a quick listen was definitely an idea of how black people have been seen historically. the last line made this extremely clear to me - "the earth was THEIRS". which i think makes sense in conjunction with a interesting simple song for Lupe's little cousins as you said
You may wanna check out some Nerdcore artists like Wordburglar, Mega Ran and MC Frontalot
Del The Funky Homosapien "Protoculture" is another great video game song
Put your quarters up by Slug, Aesop Rock and DOOM
ey prof lupe watched your video!
Dinosaurs was about aging rappers lol
Existentialism is the underlying message, but it was also just a song about dinosaurs for his nephews to remind them of the trip they took with their uncle.
I could listen to Prof Skye recite rap lyrics all day.
Charles Hamilton and Mickey Factz both have songs about videogames. Some people have named some Lupe songs about videogames in the comments already.
I appreciate this breakdown. I know why you picked it now.
Try listening to GameBoy by J-Tek and Blu! So good
Little Latin Lupe Lu?
Day 148 of Asking you to Review Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youth
hahaha love it but Lupe being the greatest writer in the last hundred years, this is a strange choice to break down.
Chill out lol
Wait until you really analyze the lyrics and realize Lupe is rapping about fucking.
And another one everyone should know by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince
