- Potatoes Au Gratin
1 small bud of garlic
1 tbs olive oil
Pinch salt
1/2 stick butter, melted
1/2 tsp pepper
2 small russet potatoes
1/4 cup heavy cream
Shredded havarti (or cheese of choice)
Shredded fresh Parmesan
Preheat oven to 425. Cut the bottom off the bud of garlic. Place it on a sheet of foil. Top it with the olive oil and a pinch of salt. Wrap in foil. Bake at 425 for 30 minutes.
Squeeze roasted garlic in bowl with melted butter and add black pepper.
Reduce oven heat to 350. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly. Add a small amount of the garlic butter to the bottom of a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, top with half of the remaining garlic butter and half of the heavy whipping cream, and half of the shredded havarti cheese. Add the other half of the sliced potatoes, garlic butter, and heavy whipping cream. Cover with foil and bake for 35-45 minutes. (If doubling the recipe, increase cook time to about 1 hour).
Top with the remaining havarti cheese and some parmesan cheese. Broil 3-5 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

You know, I’m in a dark place, grieving for the loss of both my parents, hubby’s cancer and depression and so I’ve been watching a LOT of shite on YT, TT and anything in between. This is the most *BEAUTIFUL* thing I’ve listened to. This lady talks so lovingly about her husband and his past but what she did for his 30th birthday and those since just shows what a beautiful soul this lady is. She’s the kind of woman you’d want for your son, your brother etc but I tell you what, every other girl/woman should want to be like this lady. She’s so kind and caring, thoughtful and generous, gentle and loving. If more of us could be like this beautiful lady, just imagine how beautiful our world could be. Happy birthday to her hubby. AMEN!!! on my families birthday's they always get to pick their favorite meal and I will cook it for them and it's just a tradition I started from when they were babies!!! They always tell me that my looking is way better than any restaurant and that my food should be in restaurant's!!! I kinda got embarrassed last year and this year, because my 13 year old apparently does nothing but brag about my food and his teacher's will ask what did y'all have foe dinner last night and my son will tell them and tell them they need to try it, because it beats any restaurant they will ever eat in!!! Also I became known as the cajun momma, because my son tells them what he eats and they all ask my if I'm cajun and I'm not, but I grew up with my parent's owning restaurant's in San Antonio and it was Loco Cajuns and they cooked it and so it came naturally to me just trying my own stuff!!!🤣😂🤣🤣

As a man who has a similar story to your husband i can tell you this. When i met my wife my first birthday with her she asked me the same question and i replied almost the same as yours. I went to work got her cars oil changed and when i headed over to her house she had decorated it insane! It was so colorful with balloons and confetti and a cake. When i told her ty she said she made it like a kids b day because she knew i never got the chance to be one. Im crying as i type this. But just know i still think on that day as one of the top 3 in my life( im 34) and weve been married for almost 4 years now. God bless you , in Jesus name im glad he found you and you found him.

Watching this alone on my 66th birthday after a day of watching tv with a frozen pizza dinner. Made me smile.
I was raised by my father and he never celebrated my birthday, so as an adult a never did either. But I turned 40 and decided to celebrate with my new friends. It was so amazing and they had me pumped up! Now I plan on doing it bigger for my 41st birthday 😊

My husband and I grew up without really celebrating our birthdays as well so it’s always been just us 2 and our toddlers. We don’t like big parties either..so I’ll cook his favorite dishes and bake a cake. We do this with our kids too on their actual birthdays and sometimes do something with our families. Simple is always best for us.. so intimate and special

I grew up in foster care as well, even when I was adopted they did not care to celebrate my birthday and often times forgot. So when I moved out, I kept up with that and didn't really care. I'm 27, and never had an actual birthday party or good memories about it. When I told my man that after he asked what do you want, he looked at me and said "well, this year finna be different" and my immediate thought was "yea whatever LOL" but I woke up to balloons, gift cards, and money from almost everyone in his family that I had met so far. I always wanted to go to Disney and walk around with the cute ears, but no one would ever take me or wanted to go with me when I had the money because most people I met had already been to Disney so many times as a kid, they were over it and didn't want to spend so much money to stand in lines all day (totally understandable) But they took me to Disney. They give you a birthday pin, so all day, all types of ppl was like HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I got a bunch of free stuff and he got me a plushie, that I still sleep with to this day. All I asked for was some birthday D, and I got that and much more. Its so sad to say that I felt guilty the whole time and I keep telling people "no its okay, thank you tho" and the whole time he was like BABE, take it. I really appreciate the good men and woman in my life. Even his mom was like "thats the point of having a man and family. you better relax and enjoy it." I remember people telling me all the time when I was little, "Im so sorry you have to experience that. It will get better, you will meet/make your own friends and family" and being mad as hell because it never felt possible. But with some hard work and time, that is definitely true.
