Following on from last week's video - • OH NO, IT'S ALL OVER! ...
And my whole Isle of Arran Playlist can be found here (why not pour yourself a drink, get your feet up and binge watch) - • ARDROSSAN TO BRODICK C...
After catching the ferry back to Ardrossan I start to make the leisurely drive back homewards. On the way though I'm distracted by an intense desire to take a much more scenic route! So I divert and head off exploring another area that's been on my To Do for some time.
Loch Doon in Carrick, Ayrshire is a bit of wild camp hotspot with lots to offer outdoors lovers - www.ayrshiresc...
It also has an intriguing history too which I explain a little about.
This was just a cheeky little detour but it's amazing what you can fit in and find out in just a few hours.

Hi, I’m Sue from Lancashire, UK.
This channel is just me getting out and about in a converted VW Campervan, occasionally with friends but mostly solo. Fun, laughs, moans, groans, mistakes, and successes. It’ll all be in here!
I’ll share new places, hints, tips, any info I discover and whatever else I think you might find useful.
I began vlogging my solo travels in ‘Vanya’, to help me re-engage with life following the sudden, tragic loss of my husband nearly 3 years ago now. Working through a very complex grief has been the hardest & loneliest challenge imaginable. Some days it still knocks me completely sideways and probably always will. I really don't know. All I do know is that life can change forever and irreversibly in an instant.
By returning to the vanlife we had enjoyed so much together & embracing a new found love of video creation and vlogging, I’m continuing to build strength and balance to move forward through this completely unforeseen and unwanted next chapter of life.
Thanks for joining me. The company is nice.
    Sue x

Awesome attitude Sue, just love it! You come across so well on these vlogs! What a lovely spot for the drone flying! Even the wee midgies didn’t dampen your spirit! Great advice on the pre appliance! What an absolute, why park right in front of you when there is so much space!? The river flowing in and the ambient noises were beautiful! Great choice of music for the wonderful flyover! Another epic video! You really do make me smile no matter how stressed I might be when i start your video! Wish I had a smidgen of your incredible attitude! ♥️

Lovely video, when we went to Dumfries & Galloway, David called one of our Stopovers Midge Central, as there were literally millions of the little beggars, they love me and David, so we try and usually fail to avoid them lol. Must ask David to put Loch Doon on our go to list as we haven't been there. it looks lush. Hope you are well xx

The castle was fenced off when we went a few months back. Shame really. We have been in there though but been a couple of years ago. Loch Doon is a very beautiful place. Where you went left and parked up for your brew is where we parked up that's on our intro. You used to be able to drive the forest road, which we have done in the past, but it's not open for some reason. They're probably logging no doubt. It's bumpy but worth it when it's open.

How amazing that they moved and rebuilt the castle - imagine it was probably more difficult than building from scratch. The no overnight camping signs seem to be growing at an alarming rate. Also I’ve noticed more and more no drone flying signs popping up too. Beautiful footage and a lovely vlog - have a great weekend, all the best, David & Rachel 👍

This is a wonderful vlog Sue! Thanks for sharing all those beautiful spots around Loch Doon. You did some excellent drone videos here, especially from that river mouth falling into the Loch and the view was just stunning. This location certainly going into my list. By the way enjoyed the music you choose here, they were so appropriate with view while driving along, apart from natural bomberdment :)). Best wishes as always.

A very professional video and i love the drone shots.
Me and my friends have been here every year for the past 24 years on a long camping weekend.
With the exception of 2001 when foot and mouth outbreak closed the loch and we ended up at a Butlins type holiday park bearby 🤣
When we first went back in ‘99 it was carrying small twigs what felt like miles just to make a small fire that would last about 30 mins 🤦‍♂️As the years rolled by our trips evolved and now we literally live like a home from home with portable sky tv,bring our own dry wood for the fire in huge sacks, and a massive home made griddle for the food we cook on the fire as well as music and various sports entertainment.
All of this whilst still sleeping in tents and camping naturally.
We have seen the Roundhouse at the dam end grow from a small public toilet to the large cafe and wonderful osprey viewing platform (run by Brian) it is today.
We love Loch Doon and it has been our well kept wild secret for years however we have seen that it is quite fast becoming more commercialised but we would never want to be anywhere else.
P.S even my email address has Loch Doon in it 😲😄

Hi Sue, another tip for anti midge is Avon Oh So Soft, diluted in water when washing your face, or in a bath. For camping you could make up a spray ☺️
