- This film documents some of the experiences that GATE members have had when staying on the roadside in Leeds. It examines Negotiated Stopping as a new approach to managing unauthorised encampments and shows what a difference it can make to peoples lives.
If they didn't leave rubbish everywhere and want to fight everyone people would be more sympathetic

I’m sure there are good people in the travelling community like everyone in society there’s good and bad folk. However, the travellers which have camped nearly in my front and back garden have always left such an awful mess and trash behind. If they lived to a standard where they left the sites clean and tidy then everyone would be more friendly and tolerant. They just need to comply with these standards as with us in houses are expected to maintain clean and tidy gardens. Saying that, there are the minority which don’t.

I'm astonished at some of the racism and ignorance expressed in some of the comments, but sadly it is not a surprise.
Travellers Move around? So move around.... Or get a house like the rest of us and start paying for things like rent. Tax. Etc. I want a piece of land so should I just jump on it and try claim for it.... Lol don't be stupid I'd get arrested wouldn't I... In life you get what you Pay for!
We do pay a lot boy and why would I want to live in brick am not a gadji wake up everyday looking at the same view for the rest of my life plus I own land bought from a farmer in bedale who wants to live with rats in your garden or smelling cannabis nlbesides with how van lifers their is they are also classed as travellers worst kind throw crap everywhere and dogs
@@richardboswell9306 I agree with what you say. I guess I'm jealous in one way. Frustrated in another but that's only because I'd love a small piece of land. I work dam hard everyday just to pay rent and all the extras that life throws at us each month. Enjoy your life m8 . I wish you all the very best.
this is great im from leeds and used to knock about with some travelers that used to put a site in cross Green and they would come on go one day here the next they wasnt great idea they should have more traverls are nice ppl if you leave em alone.
These are not Gypsies, they are Irish families who long ago took up nomadic criminal life styles. Perhaps they were inspired centuries ago by actual Gypsies they observed and sought to emulate. However they couldn't quite achieve the proper "gypsy/traveling" lifestyle they wished, so they began committing petty crimes to finance the lives they imagined. Then it just continued and grew from there.

If they are Irish tinkers they don't have any business in England , I'm Irish i know a family got a nice council house they wouldn't live in it, they stayed in a caravan with a new baby, they moved to the roadside after about 2 months, another group had new homes build for them they didn't move in they wanted a field to put horses in, they are still not living in the homes they got no field, They pay no tax as they they don't work they go around dressed up and collect dole. I don't know why they are treated different ,

I realised that at the start of the video, the woman being interviewed cleared explained the endless fear of being evicted, which was sad to hear has no-one should ever be made to feel that scared just because of their culture, and yet the other commenters on this comments page just keep having a go at them all the time, the traveller lifestyle will continue forever because it is a ancient way of life which is passed on from generation to generation, regardless of the opinions of prejudiced gorgers!
If they are travellers should they not travel...
Pay for it then, like everyone else.

If you manage to stay somewhere for a few days count yourself lucky! If I purchased a caravan or camper to randomly park up somewhere I doubt I'd last a day without being forcibly moved on, my god, you can't even park up for a minute over in a lot of places without being fined! Welcome to the real world.
