Check out this deal I snagged at creative Fabrica! So many designs for only $12! Commercial rights included 👌 www.creativefabrica.com/product/the-crafty-collection/ref/455608/
Thank you for the Creativefabrica link. After listening to you talk about trademark rights, etc, I realized that wow, just because I can buy the font or designs from someone, doesn’t make it ok to not pay the designer (on free fonts, font space, etc). I do believe most of my things are for commercial use, but like you say, it’s very hard to keep track 🤷♀️. BTW, I called CrystaLac today with questions about their products and they were so helpful. Would you mind if I send you a message with more questions that I have not found answers for?
Absolutely fantastic video! It’s difficult trying to navigate the in’s and out’s of ‘Etsy’ or where to verify trademarks/copyrighted brands. Thank you! You’re the best!!
Great info! Question: I’m a clay artist and I want to draw hello kitty, Mickey, in my HANDMADE mugs.. obviously is not going to look perfect but it will be a draw by hand. Since it is a hand recreation and I’m not printing any image of those characters, it’s infringing any copyright??? I also want to draw gnomes of world of Warcraft game (inspired), it’s legal since I don’t sell it as “gnome inspired of world of Warcraft game???
Thank you, Alison. The Information you just gave is very helpful. I appreciate your time. P.S. I’m changing over to CrystaLac from epoxy after watching your videos 🙂
Would I be wrong to assume that all of the images available through Cricut are available for us to use and sell? Also, what about a high school whose colors are purple and yellow-can we make a purple and yellow tumbler with a person’s name? What about adding a football or other shapes to it? Thank you so much for this info!
You can look at the site i showed at the end of the video to see if it's trademarked! As far as taken, i think google/social media would be your best bet but there may be a state database? I"m not sure about that
Hi everyone. I just got off the phone with the copyright office and am so confused. I will be selling digital mockups (images for other sellers to use in their shop). I was told I could copyright 750 images in a calendar year for $65. That's great, BUT, I would have to submit all of them at once. The problem with this is, lets say I only have 200 to submit, then I should be able to submit the other 550 images within the calendar year of 2022, right? Wrong, well kind of. I would have to pay the registration fee of $65 each time I submit additional images in that calendar year. That would become very costly because my designs requires updating and adding new trendy designs. Plus, I don't plan on taking 750 photos all at once. This is so disappointing. If anyone knows anything different, please let me know. I will post this to other RUclips videos and see if anyone can help. This just doesn't make sense to me.
Does this apply to fabric cups.. for instance I buy the fabric with Minnie Mouse or a John Deere tractor on it.. can I sell a cup with that fabric on it?
Does this apply to Starbucks cups? If I purchase the reusable cups from Starbucks and bling them or add glitter like one of your previous videos, am I legally allowed to sell them?
I think there is a little bit of a grey area with these. As long as you aren't making a new logo for it i think it's okay but you also could run into problems listing it as a "starbucks" cup since you're using their name. I'd chat with a lawyer about this one since it's a little bit muddy!
So all those who make sports related tumblers are breaking the rules?? To add to that what if its a real Starbucks cup but just glittered or modified some how. I see so many that are on etsy that sell just the emblem
Yep, they are breaking the rules and running the risk of being shut down! Starbucks is a little tricky because if you're not messing with the logo I don't know if they care but you're using their name in your listing so they might. Best to check with a lawyer on that one!
@@AlisonCrafts thank you for the advice! While I love putting logos and such on cups because it's so pretty I think I'm gonna have to just stick to names and designs. Lol. I'm still new to all this
This is good to know since I purchased a #momlife file on etsy. It is to use for a gift but I didn't realize it was trademarked. Do you know of a site that would work for Canadians to find out what's trademarked here as well?
Oh mylanta!!! One comment on here was pornography...Maybe I was the only one that could see it ..I just reported!! Thank you for your videos especially ones like this ❤ that help us. We have several in our area that will steal your idea block you and when you post another one, they tell someone you stole that idea from them...yep it happens..even in the Bible Belt!!😪
omg i get so many spam comments, thank you for reporting! it's like every time i upload I have to delete so many! And ugh about the stolen ideas - that's so terrible!!!
Wait, what if a tattoo artist tattoos a trademarked character/slogan? The artist would be making profit from the trademarked thing, but like what are they gonna do? LOL

Could you share any tips on how to pick your business name (to make sure it’s not taken), such as a helpful website?

My question as well. As in a ceramic mug from Target.

What about svg dump?
I don't know what that is... More info and I could give you a better answer!
@@AlisonCrafts there are FB groups that share other people’s SVG files
@@KatieT unless the creator of the svg is the one sharing it and explicitly allowing users to use it commercially then it's probably not okay.
@@AlisonCrafts yeah I knew that ;) those groups do the SVG Dumps
