Taste can be very subjective - especially when it comes to whisk(e)y. (The "best" whiskey is the whiskey you like to drink - the way you like to drink it.) But is there a consensus for what COMMON flavors define IRISH as a category? Here are your results for the most CLASSIC / QUINTESSENTIAL / REPRESENTATIVE / PROTOTYPICAL / CONSUMMATE Irish Whiskeys available today.

You know sometimes you guys just cross a line and today I just can't keep my mouth shut. Most of the time you guys are well-informed and diligent in your research for these videos, but today you proved you were not. It was mentioned briefly that "hobbits grow well into their 200's," but this is not the case. Hobbits have a life expectancy of around 100 years, the oldest of which being Bilbo Baggins at 131, followed by the Old Took himself at 130. I hope that clears things up.
I’m glad someone else picked up on that. Me being the hobbit/ lord of the rings nerd that I am couldn’t let that go either.
This is the kind of thing that always happens when people veer away from their expertise and experience. I'll listen to them about whisk(e)y but I don't think I'd take dating advice from them.
Concerning Hobbits....they also don't go bald or have beards.
@@jasonwassman3888 So, you're saying he is a dwarf instead of a hobbit?
@@joegibson4946 and a non-gender specific one at that!

You are doing God's will
That Napoleon Dynamite ad play they did was so spot on. Heder would be proud and Pedro would VOTE FOR DANIEL!!!!
Rex should take the motorized scooter out and do some sweet jumps.
I was ENTHRALLED with that ad placement. Perfect!
Mooch Man in the bottle had me rolling.
6 months ago I had one bottle of Jack.. now I have over 40 whisk(e)y bottles. Rex and Danny Boy are my personal pandemic. Can I say Danny Boy given this is an Irish episode?
No person has ever pronounced a g harder at the end of a word, than the way Daniel Whittington does. It's like its own syllable.
You mean Daniel Whitt-ingk-ton, been saying this for years lolol
Worst part is, it’s not on every word....
Now Rex will have to do a harder g. Even if it destroys his throat.😄
come to the Netherlands almost everybody in the upper part of the country mastered a hard G. for me from the lower part its almost impossible lol
So I’m not the only one that notices that
Tullamore Dew is by far my favorite Irish whiskey!
I want to see the faces of the SkillShare people when they see this ad :D
I had no idea this channel was a thing. You both are amusing and I appreciate the way it’s explained to sample. There’s no stress and it’s so relaxing. I greatly dislike whiskey, scotch and rye, but I enjoy watching the enthusiasm you both have.
I can’t believe I’m about to compliment the ad. That was the best youtube ad I’ve ever seen.
That was the single greatest ad I've seen in a RUclips video ever.
I'd love to see you give us your personal reviews along with what people had to say about the whiskey and a ranking based on popularity and your opinions. Awesome video!! I really love everything you put out❤🤌🏻🤌🏻🔥
From someone who works as a video editor - props to your editor. Fantastic rhythm, humour and pacing.
One of the best videos of 2020. Thanks guys. We all needed this.
Somebody should always be keeping an eye on Rex.
We all have them and we all know, never let the Mooch out of your sight !!!
You guys have me absolutely dying man, so much entertainment, I can’t believe this is free to watch lol. Superb editing!
What a way to come back from Dry Week, a new Whiskey Tribe video from Rex and Daniel AND a new video from Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars
The Spirit Monk[e]y gives this content two opposable thumbs up for being both informative and tickling the fancy.
That was the best skillshare ad I've ever seen!
To bad it couldn't have been with Rex's skullet.
Really loving this series guys! Keep it up!
New to the channel! My dad is a bourbon guy, he collects them and has a vast collection. I find them a little to sweet, but Irish is perfect for me. Very much a Jameson man but Green Spot and Bushmills are big favourites of mine too. You’ve got a new subscriber!
I have always like whiskey and you guys have opened up a whole new world of whiskey to me and i love it, Thank you so much for canada. I also have a suggestion for a video, You guys should make a video on your own versions of the flaming moe from the Simpson's
I need more Irish in my collection, but the 3 I have now are 1, 2, and 3. I’m glad I at least have 3 great Irish to start my collection in that category. Green spot is my favorite Irish and also the one that non whisky people warm up to. Very mellow and drinkable.
I wasn't sure where to post this because I don't think I found a Twitter but thanks to this channel I now love whisky in a new way..I used to view it being a masshole that jack daniels is there to get me drunk. Now I just want to explore everything and learn the ways so thank guys, truly thank you. Now to figure out how to get your whisky in Massachusetts
Rex loves Redbreast. My favourite version of Redbreast is the cask-strength, bit more expensive but its amazing.
Nice rundown and solid editing skills in this one!
I tried Red Breast for the first time a month ago. All I could think about was all the time I've wasted. In other news I have to try Green Spot now.
I feel the same way....just getting into whiskeys myself and I already have a list of 20 I want to buy but am going to start slow!
@@NipItInTheBud100 Hell yeah, man. While you're at it might as well start an Infinity Bottle. Check out their video if you haven't already.
@@marcelw6440 I think I’m going to wait until I have a little more whiskey experience before partaking in that experiment. But thanks for pointing that out because I didn’t even know what that was until you mentioned it!
I am obsessed with the breast. My favorite is 21 Year, it's so tasty. Recently opened a bottle of 27 year and it was heavenly to sip on. 21 is a better drinker though and still my #1 because of the quality to price ratio.
As I have grown to say:
Red Breast is best. No competition.
(If you're looking for IRISH SINGLE POT)
I would recommend saving up, and picking up a bottle of 21 year if you liked the 12 year, it's around 250 on average here in Michigan, but it is worth every drop, and penny. Cheers fellas.
Thanks lads , i needed this, you had me in stitches 🤣🤣👍🏻👍🏻
Yay it’s happening!!! I’m so excited to see the other categories!!!
I recently (subjected) some family members to a Irish whisky tasting, Redbreast 12 vs. Green Spot. Redbreast won hands down.
On a personal note, I still have about half of my first bottle of Green Spot, but after finishing off so many bottles of Redbreast I had to go cask strength to slow down...
'Hobbits grow well into their 200s!' Hahahaha! Brilliant! Thanks for showing Irish the love ... and a bit of Napoleon Dynamite. This episode had it all. What about an intermediate or new irish list sometime soon?
In Ireland for the most part, most people think Paddy is cheap shit and then it's a tossup between Bushmills and Jameson, mostly based on geography. In the south people mainly drink Jameson, Bushmills is mainly drunk closer to the border
And then north of the border liking Bushmills may or may not make people want to fight you.
Personally, i prefer Bushmills/tullamore dew to Jameson with Writer's Tears being no.1
Nice timing with the video. I just came home with a bottle of Bushmills for my Irish coffee today. Now I gotta track down Green Spot and Redbreast 12 as well :o
that ad really blew my mind... i forgot i was watching an ad you SOB!!!
Do we know when the new site is going live? I saw some merch I'm definitely interested in and want to see what else these guys have up their sleeves. As always great episode!
I love Rex's reaction to the redbreast 12 lmao yeah for me, bushmills, tullamore and jameson are the ones that made me like Irish whiskey, but redbreast 12 and Green spot are my favorites hands down
Check out yellow spot and bushmills 21
@@alancarmody8848 yellowspot is overated and bushmills is just cheap low grade stuff
Could you do a video for the new whiskey drinkers that usually only drink the name brands but are afraid to drink new things for example what would be good to try if you like wild turkey and what to try something similar “that’s what I like” or bird dog or crown and so on
It was my birthday when the dry week came to its conclusion, so my Bladnoch 17 and Woodford Reserve - Ritchies Select Batch 1 went down wonderfully. I did, however, receive a bottle of Writer’s Tears. Perhaps a higher proof for the Writer’s Tears may give it that much needed punch, but it’s still a lovely dram.
The Napoleon Dynamite gimmick might be the best sponsorship segment of all time
Rex is both Napoleon and Kip somehow.
@@adamlogan384 and Uncle Rico.
How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a Powers 12 over them mountains?
Power 12 broken bottle...... :(.
"In the arms of the Angel
Fly away from here
From this dark cold hotel room
And the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage
Of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of the Angel
May you find some comfort here"
MB word clouds have the best ball busting entries in them. Also, welcome back from dry week!
One Irish Whisky brand I really like, that’s not well known in the USA, is Slane. Which is distilled on the grounds of Slane Castle. My mother discovered that brand when she traveled to Ireland. It’s made from 100% malted barley and triple casked, and it’s very smooth whisky with a nice butterscotch finish.
After several trips to Ireland, I consistently found Powers Gold Label to be my favorite; back in the day it was not distributed here in Wisconsin, but there was a liquor store that got it "grey market" from Chicago-land. I know that Jameson is very popular -- and the default or sometimes only option at many bars -- but I find it too sweet.
This is the video I was looking for a week ago when I was wanting to try my first Irish.
Fun fact: Paddy's, Powers, and Jameson are all made by Midleton Distillery, so there was only two distilleries left. Bushmills and Midleton.
Powers Three Swallow deserves a massive mention. Such an amazing pot still for €40. I’ve seen it on sale as low as €30. Get it.
Redbreast 12 year is my favourite and Slane is my favourite Budget Whisky....Great video 😀
This led me a bottle of redbreast PX. I ❤️ the PX nectar and thought this must be a must have. I was not disappointed and this is my favorite Irish now! My favorite Scotch is Dalmore cigar malt and my favorite bourbon of late is 1792 sweet wheat.
I wish I could give Hands a round of applause in person after each Tribe video. His edits are spot on
Teeling Single Grain my favorite. Love Green Spot and can drink Jameson anytime, anywhere and be satisfied.
I always think Rex always seems to gravitate more to Irish whiskey than Scotch, and Irish whiskey is definitely on the up. Will be interesting to see the guys review Waterford Whiskey.
Really enjoy Jameson Castmates Stout. Will definitely try Redbreast next. Thanks brothers!
Whiskey Tribe sponsors/advertisements are always top notch
Im so glad I found this channel.
Green spot is my personal favourite. I drive by the tullamore distillery when I go back home to see my mother but I cannot get on with Tullamore Dew personally
Love how clean and wholesome Rex looks right now.
Breaks my heart to see that John's Lane gone like that...so I'm going to go pour a glass from my own bottle in mourning hahaha
Our biggest takeaway from of Irish trip last year was Powers. It is great for the price.
Oooh! I've been looking forward to this! It's been a long week... 😅
Totally agree with you guy's on the Power's John's Lane. fantastic drink !
Seriously best advertising is on this channel
That ad was awesome!
That sponsor read was gold!
LOL!!! I love Irish whisky. Thanks for your posts..brings me back to my roots.
That was great, I needed the laughs! 👐 is getting good.
Lol
Thanks guys I thought the best from your call on apple is green spot thanks I need to try it!
I did that once with spiced Morgan. Half gallon. Took about 7 paper towels I got most of it. Rang it in a bowl and put it in a soda bottle. Called it my kitchen floor rum
Found Paddy's randomly at a local grocer... the bottle was completely covered in dust because it had been there so long. Never regretted picking up that forgotten bottle. It won't change your life, but it will be good.
This an awesome story. Wish I can come across a bottle like that some day
I have a similar story but with old forester. found it on sale with dust on the bottle. had to get it.
Love the ad!
The end was so fing funny, love you guys.
i recently finished my 2.5 years of abstinence from alcohol and was tasting different alcohols recently and my favourites have to be bulgarian brandy (rakiya) from fig and Irish whiskeys. the smells are so nice and welcoming but have so many layers and smell slightly different every time, whilst "complex" things my brother showed me (different scotches) and its just ashtray bar smell which i dislike.
Where I live Writers Tears Distiller’s Edition just showed up. Looks pretty much like the regular but at 46%. Picking it up tomorrow.
You guys need to try that 18 year Jameson Limited Reserve in the green box. Its the smoothest thing I have ever tasted in my life, and it sort of crossed the border between irish whiskey and scotch, and won on both fronts.
I feel Jameson is more overrated powers is awesome
Bushmills, bushmills red bush and Slane have become my fav Irish currently.
Congrats with new sponsor guys!
Need to try all but my two favorites, jameson and proper 12
Clonakilty whiskey 🥃 is must have!! Superbly smooth x
I'm with you Daniel. Green Spot and Redbreast hold the top 2 spots for me. Well done MB's!
Oh my god that ad was EPIC!
By far the best add read I've ever seen
kilbeggan whiskey is amazing I love it plus I also went to the kilbeggan race's once I'm very surprised it was not on your list
Here in Country Kerry Powers Golden Label is priced usually over 30 euro when Bushmills usually around 20-25. Paddy is one of the cheapest.
Skill share needs to pay premium for this level of ad
Just bought my first Irish last week, Teeling Small batch. Really the first irish I like, and I tasted like half of the whiskeys in this list.
Hahaha I straight up checked the time stamp at the 2 min mark when Rex said “Jameson, bye”... anyone else?!
Saw the Teeling straight up!!! YES!!
Glad to see a favorite channel of mine get a legit internet sponser. Cheers, lads.
Thanks man. We’ve been turning potential sponsors away for months, but this was a good fit. 👍
Liking Irish whiskey is easy. It's a great place to start.
However, I've only found one really good Irish whiskey, which I will admit may be due to limited availability in Canada, and that whiskey is Yellow Spot.
Nah .... redbreast is much nicer, yellow spot is over hyped its an ok whiskey at best, redbreast 12 and redbreast lustau beats it out of the park and of course middleton very rare
These top 10s are very entertaining. I bet a top 20 or more would be extremely entertaining around #16....Rex doesn't like to pour any out..
I get green apple in Tullamore but I don't usually drink it after Green Spot and Teeling
I wish that you could've brought Bushmills 10yr into the review.
Bushmills is also notable for being quite good when carbonated
One of my favorites is the Tellamore Dew 12 year. A bit overpriced but I like it.
Can you guys try Australian whisky. I recommend Lark from Tasmania
Teeling was, being both malt expressions, directly contrasted with rider's tears as having more musty, grainy notes. Can you add insight as to what in the production, barreling, or aging process that is responsible for that difference?
Love the Dynamite skit! GOSH!!!
Dublin's Roe & Co. Irish Whiskey is my daily go to, So good
I want to thank wal mart for re-organizing our local store, and they marked redbreast 12 single pot down to $25. They had two, so I bought two.
Score !
So I don't know how real it is, either this version or any other, but especially with what I presume are some rare and/or expensive bottles, this reminds me of a rubber floor material from an episode of Bones to keep glass from breaking.
Sneaky-sneaky! Don't think by turning the bottle backwards that I couldn't tell what's on the table but I recognize the Red Breast 12. Right there, in the front. 🤨
