- The Steam Deck has been around for quite a bit of time, enough to admit that this little handheld gaming system has changed the gaming landscape. For more than just the average PC gamer, it's been altered for Linux gamers as well, and has shed light on that community. The only thing that's missing, is COMPLETE ubiquity...
....Let's talk about Steam Deck in BEST BUY.

I disagree on it being the best thing. The Steam Deck’s purpose is to drive Steam store sales and if you play on Steam you’re going to know about the Steam Deck. If you online to research the Ally you’re going to see it any other handheld compared to the Steam Deck. By Valve controlling sales they won’t be dealing change of heart returns, they won’t be dealing with a middle man, and they won’t be making excess inventory to stock hundreds of stores. The Steam Deck’s been doing pretty well by word of mouth so why would Valve need to change. Would it be convenient? Sure. Would it lead to more impulse buys? Sure. But from a business perspective I think what they’re doing is quite smart. What isn’t well known is that you don’t necessarily need a Steam Deck to experience the simplicity of Steam OS. ChimeraOS and Bazzite are both great alternatives for making your own Steam machine

I can't imagine how it would be with the regular consumer.
Forget seeing this thing at Best Buy , it needs to be available in every country first
It would make more sense for valve to put the steam deck in Walmart or target where there not as much competition and more foot traffic.
Before they focus on putting the steam deck in stores they need to at least get them for sale on Amazon with two day prime delivery. That would boost its visibility and sales quite a bit
in my country (denmark) you can buy this is big chain stores, but its a horrible deal, every version cost about 2-300euros more than on steam, yet on steam it can be delivered to my country without a delivery fee and there is no import fee,
Just needs to be available in all countries. Id have bought one years ago but no valve wont let me have one so i was forced to get a windows handheld. These newer devices are better for sure however if Valve sold them to the general public in the first place the other devices would have remained obscure.
Just ordered a Steam Deck OLED on eBay. I got a nice deal but I don’t think Value needs to do this. Good idea but keep in mind Tesla doesn’t advertise or have dealerships… but there are more Teslas in my area than I can count. Take that as you will 😊
I also asked multiple gamers which handheld I should get. Almost all of them said Steam Deck
Don't they have sells locations in Asia though?
More eyes on Linux would be a net positive for the entire computing industry, it would cut down on the spyware and licensing, I've already made the switch myself and I am never looking back.
Linux is open source 😂😂 how much more free can you get? On a side note you can buy a steam deck from Walmart but your gunna pay about 2 times the price.
For a software-first company like Valve, that might be a waste of money… Better to do just-in-time manufacturing and shipping when a customer orders on their site.

@@sly2792004 agreed, but shelf space costs money, and stocking hardware waiting for it to be sold also costs money. Talk less of transportation, and a whole set of other logistical money pits. If a manufacturer can have some measure of control over costs to maximize revenue in a mostly predictable manner, then that manufacturer most likely would. The Steam Deck is primarily a vehicle for SteamOS, to ensure customers who like playing on the go can do that, and have access to virtually every possible game available in the store. On this point you and I agree. But developers employed to maintain SteamOS, and verify compatibility of games with the Deck, cost money. If they don’t sell another Deck, they can just pivot back to working on Steam for other platforms.
Also, how many people in this world are truly gamers? Of that percentage, how many would rather hold a portable playing games instead of socializing? When you consider that that market share is already constrained, it makes less and less sense to be posted in Best Buy, or Game Stop, or other store, sharing the profit pie with those store fronts, when it could go into their own efforts.
Also, also, you gotta realize that a good number of Deck owners bought secondhand Decks from marketplace, or refurbed on Game Stop, or on the Steam Deck site. That means even fewer brand new Decks would be sold. Making EVEN LESS sense to produce in such bulk as would be necessary to sell in those store fronts.
At least, that’s how I see it. I may be wrong…

after all, we are all gamers but the ps portal isn't a handheld its a streaming device so if you want to use something on the go, the Nintendo switch is better
