I bought a 2005 2500 with a 6.0 last year. The seller said it had 160,000 miles on it. I didn’t know about the cluster problems at the time. I was cleaning out the truck and found an oil stop receipt that had 280,000 miles on it. Did a Carfax and he sure did scam me. Truck is still running great at least. But I was pretty upset about it.
I have a scanner i can hook up when i go look at vehicles and it shows any hidden codes and tells me the vin and mileage the ecm shows for the vehicle. Its saved me from buying some real junk that looked like really nice rides

Depends on how it was treated in its life. Mine dropped a valve. Rebuilt it and its even running on orginal heads and block. Toughest truck ive ever drove. Mine is the 2002 3500 Dually LB7. Dont let anyone tell you different, these trucks are bad ass when they are running properly. Dont listen to the ford guys either, their brand literally circles the problem. That and any cummins of that age you will rip in half
Unless it's a brand new truck on the showroom floor assume the odometer does not exist and learn how to make an educated guess on how miles is on a vehicle by looking at the rest of the truck or take somebody that can with you ...end of story and don't waste your time in court learn from it

When you buy used, you buy someone else's problems. I believe UTAH is "as is" state, unless you have a written warranty its gonna be a up hill battle. If you trying to prove fraud, I hope you made the seller sign a mileage disclosure statement, otherwise it gonna be difficult to prove. Good luck with your case.
Odometer fraud is serious stuff. This is kind of a strange situation as the odometer is seemingly correct and accurate but the buyer took the sellers word on there being half the miles.

Anytime you buy a truck you need to have documentation with all agreements wrote down and notarized. If no documentation is there it’s automatically ruled AS IS. Well when I go to court and get my restitution money, I’ll just end up selling it I have no use for 300k mile truck for what I need it for! And then that way I won’t be out any money either and can move on!

Most likely the judge will fine the guy and see what the actual value of the truck would be with the real miledge and adjust some restitution accordingly. Its same if a used car lot or dealer did it cause its fraud.

Judging by the Grill and top lights looks like an LB7 i own a 2002 of the same setup (tan and yes a Dually) great trucks. Mine lived its life with a 1500pd Welder on the ass end of it. After my pa passed away my mother gifted it to me as my first truck. I fell in love with it as i grew up with it around. It was one of those Machines youd never think youd own as a kid. So when my mom pitched the idea to me, I was all for it! A few months down the road a blessing disguised as tragedy would stike. She dropped a valve on cylinder 8, what happened next would win my absolute loyalty for this truck as it slung the valve sideways and lodged it in the exhaust manifold in a sonic parking lot. She would continue to truck on and get me to work for 2 months giving me enough time to afford and lay into a $9,000 dollars in parts alone (paid 4,500 thanks to my O’Reillys discount bc i work for them.) ever since me and my dad rebuilt that LB7 she has been one hell of a truck. Peppy like it was when she rolled out of the factory. With her new turbo (delayed wastegate shoving an extra 100rwhp) and injectors, rebuilt heads, ect. That Duramax Dually stock would probably rip a Cummins or a Powerstroke in half if tested🤣 with the exception of the newer ones. However ive never seen a Cummins or a Powerstroke pull off what that tough hunk of steel did. I will never sell her nor will i ever trade her. I will probably sell my house before I sell that truck. Didnt realize how blessed I was to have such a Behemoth land in my lap fresh outta school. Beats the hell out of any other ride i can think of. Especially cause its my papa’s truck. Between it and a pocket watch hanging on the turn signal it is all i have left of him. People have made me insane offers and even tried trading me their fresh diesels for it but I cant bring myself to let it walk. Ive seen waaaaay too many people regret such a decision. Now 5,000 miles since the rebuild and Im inlove with it. Granted compared to most I was both lucky and unlucky Let me be absolutely clear that valve DID NOT KILL IT. I rebuilt it because i was tired of it being sloppy. It NEVER left me stranded

If you end up redoing the engine and you had said the trans had been updated, at the end of the day rather that truck has 50k or 1million miles it's obviously still a bad ass dually that's running and driving good enough for you to have bought !!!
@@KoleRichards I’m sure that truck has had some work done with 300k miles, most diesels anyway with over 200k miles usually have all the issues fixed by then that’s when everything around the whole truck wears. Also got scammed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban, guy listed it with 117,000 miles. For the first time, I didn't do a carfax, lesson learned. He switched out the cluster. When we registered it with 117,000, we received the pink mileage on the pink states, not the actual mileage. Then I do the carfax, actual mileage was 191,000, guy's phone is disconnected. Chalk it up to stupidity on my part. Anyway, 3 months later my wife gets a call from the California DMV fraud detective who wants to meet with us with the car. We show up and he wants us to fill out some papers, we walk on over to his Explorer he opens the back and it looks like he's ready for WW3, a couple of M4's bullet proof vests like full-on swat. I asked all this for fraud? Sometimes they roll up on chop shops, he says oh yea, you never know. Anyway, good thing my wife took a pic of his driver's license, we gave him all the info from our end and that was it. Didn't think we would ever hear back from them. 9 months go by we finally hear from the fraud department, they caught the guy because of the driver's license photo my wife took, they arrested him, I had to fill out a bunch of papers, and the woman at the department informed me he has a court date this month (April '22)which the fraud dept. represents me, I don't even have to show up. Listed everything I spent on the Burb plus she said what about the emotional distress your wife went thru? This Burb went to the shop 5 times for everything that could go wrong with a car. She said to write down what I thought restition should be? I wrote that 2 years in Los Angeles County Twin Towers should teach him, (you don't want to go there) plus the aggravation each time the Burb went to the shop and all the money I spent with the purchase and parts. So, I would check to see if your city or county has a DMV fraud division, they may be able to help you instead of hiring an attorney. Good luck.

We did that in this but the ecm has been swapped from another vehicle with a different year and mileage so we wasn’t able to from that unfortunately!

Put the scanner on it and check milage in the pcm it will tell you actually miles on the truck
PCM has been swapped common issue for them to go out and be replaced, end of the day it has 300k Miles

Buying a truck that’s pushing 20 years old is always going to be a risky investment unless it’s a one owner with documentation…..I paid 15k for a 6.0 powerstroke that had 80k on the clock I car faxed it the owner I bought it from bought it off the consignment lot that the original owner was selling it thru……either way I knew what I was getting….I did the work….now the truck seems solid after 20,000 miles being put on it
Only time will tell but I’m not tearing it apart again if something goes wrong

Judging by the Grill and top lights looks like an LB7 i own a 2002 of the same setup (tan and yes a Dually) great trucks. Mine lived its life with a 1500pd Welder on the ass end of it. After my pa passed away my mother gifted it to me as my first truck. I fell in love with it as i grew up with it around. It was one of those Machines youd never think youd own as a kid. So when my mom pitched the idea to me, I was all for it! A few months down the road a blessing disguised as tragedy would stike. She dropped a valve on cylinder 8, what happened next would win my absolute loyalty for this truck as it slung the valve sideways and lodged it in the exhaust manifold in a sonic parking lot. She would continue to truck on and get me to work for 2 months giving me enough time to afford and lay into a $9,000 dollars in parts alone (paid 4,500 thanks to my O’Reillys discount bc i work for them.) ever since me and my dad rebuilt that LB7 she has been one hell of a truck. Peppy like it was when she rolled out of the factory. With her new turbo (delayed wastegate shoving an extra 100rwhp) and injectors, rebuilt heads, ect. That Duramax Dually stock would probably rip a Cummins or a Powerstroke in half if tested🤣 with the exception of the newer ones. However ive never seen a Cummins or a Powerstroke pull off what that tough hunk of steel did. I will never sell her nor will i ever trade her. I will probably sell my house before I sell that truck. Didnt realize how blessed I was to have such a Behemoth land in my lap fresh outta school. Beats the hell out of any other ride i can think of. Especially cause its my papa’s truck. Between it and a pocket watch hanging on the turn signal it is all i have left of him. People have made me insane offers and even tried trading me their fresh diesels for it but I cant bring myself to let it walk. Ive seen waaaaay too many people regret such a decision. Now 5,000 miles since the rebuild and Im inlove with it. Granted compared to most I was both lucky and unlucky
Let me be absolutely clear that valve DID NOT KILL IT. I rebuilt it because i was tired of it being sloppy. It NEVER left me stranded

Did you buy the truck for the miles only? Do have plans on building it? If you end up redoing the engine and you had said the trans had been updated, at the end of the day rather that truck has 50k or 1million miles it's obviously still a bad ass dually that's running and driving good enough for you to have bought !!!
300k Miles is just to much for what I’m looking for! Go to court and then I’ll end up getting rid of it after restitution has been resolved!
@@KoleRichards I’m sure that truck has had some work done with 300k miles, most diesels anyway with over 200k miles usually have all the issues fixed by then that’s when everything around the whole truck wears. I’m sure the truck is fine, looks like a nice dually. don’t be a cry baby and waste your time in court. It’s a diesel I’ve seen them with 400-500k no problem

Also got scammed on a 2005 Chevy Suburban, guy listed it with 117,000 miles. For the first time, I didn't do a carfax, lesson learned. He switched out the cluster. When we registered it with 117,000, we received the pink mileage on the pink states, not the actual mileage. Then I do the carfax, actual mileage was 191,000, guy's phone is disconnected. Chalk it up to stupidity on my part. Anyway, 3 months later my wife gets a call from the California DMV fraud detective who wants to meet with us with the car. We show up and he wants us to fill out some papers, we walk on over to his Explorer he opens the back and it looks like he's ready for WW3, a couple of M4's bullet proof vests like full-on swat. I asked all this for fraud? Sometimes they roll up on chop shops, he says oh yea, you never know. Anyway, good thing my wife took a pic of his driver's license, we gave him all the info from our end and that was it. Didn't think we would ever hear back from them. 9 months go by we finally hear from the fraud department, they caught the guy because of the driver's license photo my wife took, they arrested him, I had to fill out a bunch of papers, and the woman at the department informed me he has a court date this month (April '22)which the fraud dept. represents me, I don't even have to show up. Listed everything I spent on the Burb plus she said what about the emotional distress your wife went thru? This Burb went to the shop 5 times for everything that could go wrong with a car. She said to write down what I thought restition should be? I wrote that 2 years in Los Angeles County Twin Towers should teach him, (you don't want to go there) plus the aggravation each time the Burb went to the shop and all the money I spent with the purchase and parts. So, I would check to see if your city or county has a DMV fraud division, they may be able to help you instead of hiring an attorney. Good luck.
