None of that is minor and all of it has big influences going forward No Captain America film is filler. They all dramatically impact the lore of the MCU
No. He said Winter Soldier was INTENDED as a filler, but was a lot better than anyone thought it would be. Your two statements do not contradict each other.
As a viewer, I'm really excited that the awesome channel of Channel Awesome packed so much into a single video that I can watch right now. But come to think of it... Wouldn't it be better to wait 1-2 years until Infinity War phase ends and THEN make an awesome special on the big Marvel CU? Wait until release of SW Episode IX and give an objective rewiew on the whole new new trilogy? Packing those big and still ongoing franchises into one video may be awesome for binge watchers and clears some loose ends from previous years, but I can't help but kinda see two somewhat missed opportunities. Sure, Disney is big now, and until next Disneycember they will no doubt give us a load of new content to review, but it is already so much, and so much was missed earlier that to cover the most requested movies took you a whole month - year, even - of separate reviews without any common theme to them but to, well, cover the most requested movies. And from that it won't be any easier - the Disney train just left the station, speeding up like never before. Amidst this flood of content, waiting for something big like complete Marvel CU 2019/2020 Disneycember would make it so much more valuable, at least for me. That special would be something really special to look forward to.
Yeah, I feel like people just want not to understand. If you think the movies should have kept the politics out of the stories, then say it, but don't pretend that the very basic politics in the movies are too complicated or obscure.
I LOVE the MCU and Star Wars. Even when Disney took over, I still enjoy their content. Despite them both being in the Sci-fi genre, it's hard to compare the two because they're so different. It's like choosing between an apple and an orange, both great in different tastes.
Well tbh a lot of people say Thor the Dark world is the worst marvel movie from the cinematic universe and I have to agree. Its a shame cause there are some good moments in it.
I would say Iron Man 3 is. It made almost as much money as the first two Iron Man films combined despite that it had hardly any action (and none of it was fun), the music never had any guitars (and none of it was fun), and its only sense of humor was to give the characters, audience, and source material some of the biggest middle fingers I've ever seen. Still, it made more money than the fun Iron Man movies, and disney took that into consideration with its future films. I don't know if Iron Man 3 is GENUINELY the worst film in and of itself, but that's where the horse shit really started.
I don’t always agree with Doug’s reviews but what I love about them is Doug really has his own way of thinking. Films people love Doug thinks are okay. Films people hate he likes. Etc
🎶On the 6th day of Disney-cember, Critic gave to me... 60 years of filming, JIVE SKELETONS SING!!, Forced cliches are learned, Beefing super friends, 2 films no one loves, & a review of a sub-par movie!🎶 🎅🎄⛄Merry Critic-mas to all, & to all (yawn) good night!😴
I don't think Disney gets or deserves any credit for anything Marvel has done up to this point. They DID green light the new Star Wars, they had literally nothing to do with the MCU. They just bought it, recently. Maybe future films but none of these. I think the only credit they deserve so far is *maybe* inspiring Netflix to be assholes and cancel their shows.
promontorium ....You do realize Disney bought Marvel in 2009, right? You do realize that in December 27 1996 the Marvel group and its subsidiaries were trying to file for bankruptcy? Which led to many many lawsuits back and forth. Between them and toy biz. In 2005 they started farming there characters which led to lawsuits between them and Stan lee for billions. That was in 2007. Then in 2009 Disney bought full rights to Marvel. Iron man the first one to begin the journey in an mCU way was made in 2008. The films that broke box office were the avengers 2012. Iron man 3 2013. Then of course everything after this. So again here we are.
@@RickyUzumaki993 Eh. I can't say I disagree. Neither of them feels like Star Wars, but The Phantom Menace has a cute vibe to it. Attack of the Clones is silly and tries to be serious, anf it's hard to watch like that.
I have to say that it makes sense for the "assholes in suits" to be the main villains in the Iron Man trilogy. In the first film, it's someone Stark trusted, and that trust was betrayed. With the second, he wanted to finish what the first guy started. And with the third, he felt like his hero wasn't who he hoped he'd be, and wanted to create something that didn't need mechanical suits and such, and HE turns out to be the REAL Mandarin with Ben Kingsley's "Mandarin" acting (figuratively and literally) as his mask. Also, in the third film, Tony almost DIED in the first Avengers movie by flying into a wormhole to save the world, so the panic attacks are from THAT experience. You get what I'm saying? Anyway, Stark giving away his home address was more reckless than dumb in my view. He thought the Mandarin would be too much of a coward to face him (and he was by sending his goons to blow up Stark's house instead of facing him in person).
I love Disney, I've been to both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. I've even made my band, the Moranbong Band, play Disney music for me in a concert. I want them to open a park here in Best Korea
One of Return of the Jedi's best scenes is the whole Yavin battle. Doug is missing that one of the best things about the Star Wars movies is the space dogfight scenes. RoJ was just so much more epic than the two before it.
the reason why I like luke being whiny in the first starwars is because its all the more satisfying to see him become a full fledged jedi in the last. Which is why I dont think hamils performance is a flaw.
i understands its basically uknown over the pond but if you want fresh take on cinderella, watch czechoslovak- german version from 70s, 3 wishes) nuts) for Cinderella, my god, the lead is drop dead gorgeous and she has her indepent part, since the father train her as a rider and hunter ( not having a son) and since its old , its all real with real castle and so on. hidden gem
Something I’ve always wondered is if there is a correlation between which movies/ heroes a person likes and their personality. Personally I love Thor, Dr. Strange, Scarlett Witch. and Captain America. I know others who prefer Iron Man and Ant-Man. Still others prefer Guardians and Spider-Man. I guess what it ultimately comes down to is that the characters in the MCU are so varied that almost everyone can find heroes that they either relate to or who fulfill an ideal that we strive for.
Obadiah was, to me, the most terrifying villain. He spent years training and conditioning Tony to trust him, all so he could take advantage of him. That is the worst thing someone can do to a person. Honestly, no other villain in the MCU was as horrible as him.
Ms. Deadpool despite both being in the sci-fi genre, it still doesn't seem like it's worth comparing each other. It's like comparing an apple to an orange, they're both great in different tastes.
FUN FACT it's now cannon that the little kid Tony saves from the robot iron man suits in Iron man 2 is Peter parker who later on goes on to be spider-man in the MCU
There was a Marvel short where this "Mandarin" was confronted and threatened by someone claiming to represent the real Mandarin. And the depictions I've seen of the Mandarin aren't really aliens, but they do use alien tech.
Loki's plan was to get everyone on the Helicarrier with the Hulk...knowing he'd Hulk out, with the aid of the mind stone inside his sceptre, and tear the ship up and kill the Avengers...it wasn't just to make them 'not get along'.
For Guardians of the Galaxy the soundtrack honestly made the movie. Also Gamora has to be the straight man per say in a group full of comedians. If they were all jokey they would be the new Rise of the TMNT.
I was gonna say something like that. It's always fun to have a straight man suffering the nonsense of his (or her) idiot friends. Honestly, though, the movie has absolutely no regard for the comics (not that I'm terribly familiar, hut it's par for the course). All I'm trying to say is that if it were titled "Chris Pratt and his Space Pals in the 80s", it would be much easier to actually enjoy. The awkward/loser humor disney tries to cram down our throats all the time actually works with the group of characters and actors.
I've always been a marvel fan more so than dc. I've enjoyed just about every movie. Before the movies, all I knew was pretty much from those Disney XD cartoons. The movies made me love Captain America. I loved every version of the hulk, yes, even Ang Lee's version. It's like the three Peter Parkers. Comic books have their many different versions of these characters. I enjoyed learning of the guardians. But, the one that got me most was learning more about Ant-Man. Those movies to me were really fun and enjoyable. His relationship with his daughter, it's really cute, sweet, and funny. Thanks to the movies, Ant-Man is one of my favorites now. Editing this in, I did grow up also with those old 90s marvel cartoons. Every Spider-Man cartoon, all of the hulk cartoons, like I said, the avengers cartoons on Disney XD. And, I've said it before, people hated how huge hulk grew in Ang Lee's version, but, that's the hulk, he does that. In one of those Disney XD cartoons, he begins growing so huge that the gamma radiation begins releasing from his body and avengers have to help/stop him. Professor Hulk in endgame, he's actually supposed to be much bigger, but he wasn't in the movie. But hey, whatever lol
Uh yeah...no. They announced they were going to do a "Universe" way back when Iron Man released on DVD. You keep saying we didn't see this coming. Tell that to my comic geek cousin/roommate back in 2010. He had a list of the movies they had planned all the way to Ant-man pinned to his wall. He was making future plans with his friends to do a movie night with all the movies in 2015. Maybe YOU didn't see this coming but the geeks sure as hell did.
To be fair with Ultron, the plot of someone doing something that very obviously causes the prophecy to occur is as old as storytelling. I doubt I need to remind anyone about the story of Oedepus Rex or that of Perseus. Both of them foretold to kill their fathers, their fathers try to kill them, but they are spared and kill their fathers under circumstances that only occurred due to the attempted infanticide. Self fulfilling prophecies are pretty standard.
Y'know, Infinity War is pretty flat in a similar regard. Other than the sheer mass of characters who get no time to be interesting (and those who DO get the time of day are as annoying as the Jurassic World movies), the plot is almost par with something you'd see from Jimmy Neutron. I liked Jimmy Neutron, but it didn't jerk itself off on its own seriousness.
the prequels are masterpieces compared to what disney has done. and lucas was the creator, so he had the right to do whatever he wanted with his thing. disney had no right, they bought the thing but it wasn't theirs to shit all over it.
I liked the Last Jedi but yeah I understand why people hated it. Hopefully, now that the director of the Force Awakens is back I cannot wait to see how the new instalment turns out.
He doesn't consider Winter Soldier a grand comic book movie just because it lacked a strong rivalry. Did I hear that right? I think it's good enough to be on my Top 10 list of superhero movies.
@@RickyUzumaki993 I don't think so the Avengers is sort of better than Winter Soldier Winter Soldier in my opinion isn't that fun it's just Bland sometimes but it is still a pretty good movie The Avengers is rewatchable and fun to watch so I think Avengers is better than Winter Soldier in my opinion
How is it that Natalie Portman has always been celebrated as such a great actress.. but we all overlook the fact that she has zero chemistry with every male (and female) lead she's paired with? Why does she get a pass? Because she's pretty? Because of her cultural background?
Disney bought Marvel in December of 2009, after Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk came out. Disney bought Jim Henson in 2004, 8 years after Muppet Treasure Island came out. Disney bought Star Wars in October of 2012, years and years after all of the Star Wars movies reviewed here. If Disneycember is about reviewing movies from franchises that Disney hadn't yet bought, then I submit to you that next Disneycember revolve around Batman v Superman, Crazy Rich Asians, and all of the Star Trek Movies.

Amidst this flood of content, waiting for something big like complete Marvel CU 2019/2020 Disneycember would make it so much more valuable, at least for me. That special would be something really special to look forward to.
Loved the selection, wouldn't mind seeing another bulk list like this again
I don’t understand why you can’t understand the Prequel’s story. Not to sound pretentious but it’s really easy to follow if you pay closer attention.

Agreed
Yeah, I feel like people just want not to understand. If you think the movies should have kept the politics out of the stories, then say it, but don't pretend that the very basic politics in the movies are too complicated or obscure.
Darkprosper
I completely agree with you on that
Well there's my night. Thanks for uploading this. Great video and perfect, chill and relax choice!
Disney didn’t breathe life into Marvel movies. It was already going strong before Disney acquired them
Sjono
Yeah. Disney just brought them prominence
Avengers was going to be prominent with or without Disney’s acquisition

Most likely, with writing like that.
The fact you still didn't do Homeward Bound that year is absolutely ridiculous. You better quit avoiding that film and do it this year.

I LOVE the MCU and Star Wars. Even when Disney took over, I still enjoy their content. Despite them both being in the Sci-fi genre, it's hard to compare the two because they're so different. It's like choosing between an apple and an orange, both great in different tastes.
Ghidorah 0
Agreed. But don’t get me started on the Sequel Trilogy.
Well tbh a lot of people say Thor the Dark world is the worst marvel movie from the cinematic universe and I have to agree.
Its a shame cause there are some good moments in it.
Charisma Studios
It’s the worst of the bunch, but that doesn’t make it bad. I liked it for what it was
I would say Iron Man 3 is.
I would love to see a time stamp on this so i can choose which movies i want to see a review on
Hoooold up Revenge of the Sith is an amazing movie

I don't think Disney gets or deserves any credit for anything Marvel has done up to this point. They DID green light the new Star Wars, they had literally nothing to do with the MCU. They just bought it, recently. Maybe future films but none of these. I think the only credit they deserve so far is *maybe* inspiring Netflix to be assholes and cancel their shows.
promontorium well wrong. Marvel was not in a good way at all financially. If not for Disney these movies likely wouldn’t exist.
@@Tmalik21g Fascinating. So some of the highest grossing movies in film history left Marvel in hard times? Bullshit.
promontorium
I completely agree
promontorium ....You do realize Disney bought Marvel in 2009, right? You do realize that in December 27 1996 the Marvel group and its subsidiaries were trying to file for bankruptcy? Which led to many many lawsuits back and forth. Between them and toy biz. In 2005 they started farming there characters which led to lawsuits between them and Stan lee for billions.
That was in 2007. Then in 2009 Disney bought full rights to Marvel. Iron man the first one to begin the journey in an mCU way was made in 2008.
The films that broke box office were the avengers 2012. Iron man 3 2013. Then of course everything after this.
So again here we are.
No, disney definitely should be credited for the "cater to the dummies, get a buncha munnies" behavior in every Marvel film since they took over.
I love Captain America The First Avenger
Most people don't talk much about it but I enjoyed it very well

The phantom menace is very rewatchable, more enjoyable than attack of the clones
Quackers 95
I agree about it being very rewatchable, but not about it being more enjoyable than Attack of the Clones
@@RickyUzumaki993 Eh. I can't say I disagree. Neither of them feels like Star Wars, but The Phantom Menace has a cute vibe to it. Attack of the Clones is silly and tries to be serious, anf it's hard to watch like that.
ShonowTH
I don’t see how either are silly. Except every scene that involves Jar Jar
The other hulk is the abomination there's a difference between the two of them one has hair the abomination has bones visible throughout his body
I love Disney, I've been to both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. I've even made my band, the Moranbong Band, play Disney music for me in a concert. I want them to open a park here in Best Korea
Well soon there will only be one Korea. Do you think your father would be ashamed? Lol
One of Return of the Jedi's best scenes is the whole Yavin battle. Doug is missing that one of the best things about the Star Wars movies is the space dogfight scenes. RoJ was just so much more epic than the two before it.
the clones are NOT the storm troopers, in between trilogies they transitioned to a conscript/voulenteer army (not sure which)
I’ve never heard anyone who actually liked Thor: dark world
Holy crap this video is going to be awesome! 3 hours isn't long enough!

the reason why I like luke being whiny in the first starwars is because its all the more satisfying to see him become a full fledged jedi in the last. Which is why I dont think hamils performance is a flaw.
I love the music used for the review of Star Wars Episode 3. what is the name of that music?
i understands its basically uknown over the pond but if you want fresh take on cinderella, watch czechoslovak- german version from 70s, 3 wishes) nuts) for Cinderella, my god, the lead is drop dead gorgeous and she has her indepent part, since the father train her as a rider and hunter ( not having a son) and since its old , its all real with real castle and so on.
Omg your favorites are my exact favorites except I love Iron Man too!!
Slave dancer gets eaten: this is the light hearted one.

How Ironic Tony. Also as ScreenRant has pointed out. Our hero fighting a villan with the same tech is a Marvel trope now..
Erica Pagan
Yup
Obadiah was, to me, the most terrifying villain. He spent years training and conditioning Tony to trust him, all so he could take advantage of him. That is the worst thing someone can do to a person.
Honestly, no other villain in the MCU was as horrible as him.
I agree it would be cool to compare and contrast. I was astounded when I saw Star Wars for the first time. 😁
Ms. Deadpool despite both being in the sci-fi genre, it still doesn't seem like it's worth comparing each other. It's like comparing an apple to an orange, they're both great in different tastes.
Phantom Menace was a lot of fun! But the best thing was the Weird Al song.
Actually, the clones were retired after the fall of the Jedi and new soldiers were made which became the stormtroopers of the empire.
FUN FACT
it's now cannon that the little kid Tony saves from the robot iron man suits in Iron man 2 is Peter parker who later on goes on to be spider-man in the MCU
Federal agent Holton
Hell yes
So in the Incredible Hulk, the teaser with the new villain gets a resolution in an MCU official tie in comic
Re-Watching this in 2021, "Not enough Marvel to fill the entire month" LOL
There was a Marvel short where this "Mandarin" was confronted and threatened by someone claiming to represent the real Mandarin. And the depictions I've seen of the Mandarin aren't really aliens, but they do use alien tech.

Huh, not sure if I can call 50+% on rt on all the prequels a “rare minority” but sure, they had their issues.
Erica Pagan
Agreed
I was gonna say something like that. It's always fun to have a straight man suffering the nonsense of his (or her) idiot friends.
Honestly, though, the movie has absolutely no regard for the comics (not that I'm terribly familiar, hut it's par for the course). All I'm trying to say is that if it were titled "Chris Pratt and his Space Pals in the 80s", it would be much easier to actually enjoy. The awkward/loser humor disney tries to cram down our throats all the time actually works with the group of characters and actors.
I don't have one for disneycember but when December is over do cowboys vs aliens a lot of people forget this movie even existed

I didn’t even get to see that one. And I _really_ wanted to. It’s literally titled “Cowboys vs Aliens”. How can that _not_ be awesome?

DISTurbedwaffle918
Damn right
Y'know, Infinity War is pretty flat in a similar regard.
