- Jim "Pee Wee" Martin, a paratrooper of G Company, 506th PIR, was a man who became a legendary member of the WWII veteran community in his later years. Quiet and humble, he made himself accessible to others and maintained an adventurous spirit until his passing. Many of the items that he brought back from the war are now in the collection of The Gettysburg Museum of History and with Jim's passion for education and history, it seems only appropriate that we share it.

Great story about an average young American who did his duty. Please keep these stories coming, allowing these great men to live long after they are gone.
Jimmy was a very good friend of mine who I met late in my life, but from that first meeting in Toccoa we began a friendship that lasted until his death. Knowing Jim or Pee Wee as we called him also gave us the honor of meeting other members of the 506th with many of his fellow G Company members li,e Stan Clever, Eugene Spangler, Bob Izumi and many others. These men and their wives were a great gift to this country as were the other men and women who have served in all branches of our Armed Forces. My God Bless all of them and grant them the peace they deserve.
It was such an honorable thing his son did to keep Pee Wee’s name alive. Thank you Pee Wee for your service
At 1:31 into the clip I had to stop the video and ponder the thought of what Jim Martin might have been thinking as he was climbing into the C-47 this time.
"Was it worth it all?" Absolutely. Freedom was worth fighting for back then, and even more-so today. RIP Jim, and thank you!
That jump at the end sure did hit me in the old softy.
I used to chat with Pee Wee’s team on Facebook ~your are right about him. WHAT A MAN!
Yes I also follow his Facebook page.
I'm glad some of his items ended up with Erik. I'm looking forward to the new museum. I followed him pretty closely on social media before he passed away. RIP Jim "Pee Wee" Martin 🙏
Great story and what a great generation thank you for keeping what they did alive and their memory alive
🇺🇸
Tears in my eyes. What a wonderful way for his children to keep his name and memory alive as to let it be displayed at GMH. God blessed us with the greatest generation. Long may their memory live.❤🌹
Thank you for this video. I come from a big military family from World War One to the War on Terrorism. But the greatest were World War Two Veterans like Jim "Pee Wee" Martin.
Same here, Good to see you here again
@@CrossOfBayonne Thank you, I enjoy your videos. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant who served from 1973 to 1977.
I appreciate his son’s gracious donation to the museum. I’m looking forward to seeing the addition to the museum!
His jacket couldn’t have gone to a better home. With GMH it will be honored and cherished the way it should be. Great video as always. 👍😊
Thanks JD and Erik thanks for sharing this touching tribute to Mr. Martin. Everyday this generation is vanishing. Thanks for sharing!
💯👊👍
I was fortunate to know and be friends with Jim. He was a very humble and gracious man. One of the best among us, and he is greatly missed. One of the highlights of my friendship with him was having dinner with him in Normandy and all the great conversation. Miss you Pee Wee.
Awesome video thanks for sharing and God Bless America and all that defend her 🇺🇲
Things like that are great to see. Too bad they no longer walking among us. Thank you for talking with them and getting their story on record before they passed.
What an amazing video. I have tears streaming down my face. Erik, it is so fitting that you now have the jacket in your possession for display in the new addition. An incredible honor. Than you, JD and Erik, for continuing to bring us the stories of our war heroes and honoring their service to our country.
Thank you for this Erik and J.D.. What a nice tribute to Jim. He would be delighted with it. Jim had a wonderful time in Gettysburg filming “The Weapon Hunter” in 2016. He always enjoyed the time he spent with you and was impressed with the Gettysburg Museum of History. He commented to me more than once about the quality and variety of displays and the careful attention to detail evident in each of them. It’s not a stretch to say that “The History Underground” was Jim’s favorite RUclips channel. We would frequently watch several together when I visited or when we were traveling.
I can only imagine the memories that flooded back when he jumped the last time. What a true gentleman and hero. Can't wait to see the GMOH's tribute to this well-deserving "giant" of a man.
It's great to see those items and know they will be able to be seen by so many more people, so pleased the son donated them - a brilliant gesture. Pee Wee is one of those veterans I'd really loved to have met, but at least have watched him on many documentaries, interviews etc. He always came over as utterly authentic, humble, sharply intelligent and a thoroughly decent (understatement) guy displaying the best qualities of that generation and then some.
Thank you. Tears at the end.
For all the living veterans thank you for your service! For all the heroes who gave their lives for a free world thank you for your sacrifice!
We forget how ordinary these guys were that did such extraordinary things when it was needed. They really were the Greatest Generation. RIP Pee Wee.
Pee-Wee was a such a nice guy. He was an American treasure!
WOW , it's been two years already since that video from Georgia ? Good video JD. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......
My Dad was wounded in battle of the bulge. Rip. My Dad was also a Martin.
I live in the same town in Ohio as Mr. Martin. He would occasionally give lectures which were especially interesting for those interested in history. He gave honest opinions and answers about what people thought and felt at that time. It definitely wasn't a watered down version of what he saw and did (hated Monty). It's on RUclips, but his story tagging along on a WW II tour (unbeknownst to the guide) is pretty funny. He was very respectful but he corrected a few points as he had actually been there.
Mr Martin I would like to salute you for the part you played in making Europe free.......God speed you to your next adventure.....love from Oxford UK
I absolutely love this channel, your videos are well made and always contain interesting subjects.
Thank you🫡🙂
Thank you very much!
Beautiful tribute to Mr. Martin.
Another wonderful video and story of a WWII veteran that brought me to tears once again! I have such overwhelming empathy for these unsung heroes, regular guys who answered freedoms call without hesitation!
We were in Normandy for the D-day 75 in early June 2019 and were at the Dead man’s corner museum and saw C47’s dropping paratroopers in the distance. We also heard that real veterans were jumping that day. I wonder if that was Pee-Wee among those we saw! Thanks so much for your wonderful work keeping the memories alive! I just hope and pray that our future generations know and learn of their patriotism and sacrifice!
Thanks so much for showing us Jim’s jump jacket and preserving it. Looking forward to seeing it at the museum. I was very impressed to see him jump at his age. Was he wearing one of his original jump jackets?
Wow the jump at the end hit me hard. What a piece of History he is!
Another wonderful and emotional episode JD
I paused this video to watch some clips of D-DY Detonaror. WOW. Even reenactment made it look impossible.
Keep honoring these heroes and inspiring the next generation.
Great job JD and Erik preserving Pee Wee’s legacy! Thanks to you both!
Absolutely amazing!
I have just been watching the story of " That's All --- Brother".. great videos of Pee Wee Martin!!
I followed his social media when he was alive! What an incredible human being.
A wonderful tribute!
Thanks for sharing this beautiful tribute 💝
An absolutely amazing video about an amazing man
Great story. I was Lucky i met a lot of vets of WW2 from different fronts. Among them these famous guys from Easy Co of 506 PIR. In 2001 UK and 2004 in France...
I heard their stories just after BOB tv premiere.
Very moving. Thank you for sharing.
Hello JD amazing story & awesome video thank you and Rest in peace Jim pee wee legend
🙏🏼
I so wish I could have met men like Pee Wee. My dad fought in WW2 & in the Battle of the Bulge. But unfortunately for him, he came home with a severe case of what is now known as PTSD. He had major anger/sorrow issues & could never talk about his time in the army. He died when I was 13 & I miss him terribly, even now & I'm 65. God bless all of the brave men who fought for us. RIP. 🫡 🇺🇸
Great job on this video. Thank you for sharing his story and keeping all these great men's memories alive.
Till we meet at Fiddler's Green to share a drink, and share our stories.🍻RIP Pee-Wee
Love this stuff!
Thank you.
I loved watching Mr Martin when he climbed Curahee and when he made those jumps well into advanced life that was really special and a great American Hero. Rest in Peace sir as your legacy lives on in infamy.
Really great video JD and Eric!
Great episode JD! Sadden that Pee Wee has passed away. I read last week that we only have 93 WWII veterans left. Our greatest generation is sadly passing away. And so are their stories. When is the Annex opening?
Very very cool and what a way to pass on his legacy
My goodness today's society could learn so much from these legends. Ordinary men turned into Warriors - long may they be remembered.
I watched the episode of D Day Detonator. Season 2 episode 5 Amazon Prime. Pee Wee showed us the BOSS HERO he is he made 5 kill shots out of 5. Great episode. I will be visiting the WWII museum this summer. R.I.P. Jim 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
This is a great channel.
Thanks!
Great show. Thanks for sharing the story.
Thank you Mr. Martin for your service. Rest in Paradise. Thank you.
Wonderful story.

American Patriot! 🇺🇸💪

Great Great video, Thank you. All those guys who fought Are Originals. Including my Dad who fought❤
Like this Episode, the Gettysburg museum one of my bucket list places. I have done the UK and Normandy, but many other places left to do,
Excellent work.
Thanks for this great video.
brought tears to my eyes
Sounds like the cicadas are already out. Great Video.
What a great hero😊
🇺🇸
Dang man, i ridnt realize you had met mr martin. Lucky duck, id be starstuck.
Great video JD
An amazing generation!
Another great story!
Can you link the video you referenced in the intro? Thank you.
I followed Pee Wee's Fb page while he was still alive, when I saw that he passed, that day honestly I was saddened, we are losing them one by one and one day there wont be any left, it does sadden me to think that, but its life i guess.
We must keep their stories and history alive and never forget them and what they did.
A lot of people my age don't know, or don't care. And sadly groups want the very thing they fought against.
The World is such an uncertain place right now...and as we lose our WW2 heroes in great numbers, it only becomes more so...
Sadly another Hero of the Greatest Generation has left us.
Never Forget 🎗️💝
Im always fearful that Erics museum, that happens to be in a normal house has a chance of a total loss in a fire (if one were to occur). So much valuable history under one roof and i'd really like to see Eric invest in a structure that had superior fire prevention. Im just so afraid that one day ill come on here and see something horrible has happened to all those irreplaceable objects.
So very fucking cool Recondo! Thank you!
👊🏻
That very end. I'm not crying you are.
Rip Jim, legend
I paused the video to watch the Smithsonian Channel show Eric referenced. It's really cool how Pee Wee outshot the host of the show! LOL
Is the museum expanding or moving to a new location? I don’t 10:29 see mention of it on their website.
RIP to the toughest generation ever 🙏
they just dont build em like that anymore. thats was so badass to see him jump out of a c-47 again.
Very cool of his son Idk how he donated it im a sentimental fool 😊❤❤
omg what a great video. too bad they couldnt live 4ever.
Ohio proud! Thank you "Pee Wee"
RIP Pee Wee
can some 1 put up a link to the video please of the weapon hunter
He’s with his brothers now
Jacket is in great shape. They always look so stained and tattered in all the war videos.
Well done mr PeeWee.👊
