I miss my Probe GTS. It was a fun car and the sounds the the KL family makes are so glorious. I can only imagine how much more fun the MX-3 is, being lighter, more nimble and having the ZE version in it.

@@ZeoRyu I will sitck with K8 for now but I will swap maybe in the future. I got it quite cheap because it has hail damage and paint is all messed up. The former owner wanted to have it scrapped so I saved it. It runs great!
How did you add a shorter shifter I would like to do the same thing to my mx-3? Loved this car btw just bought one again recently and I am busy with a full rebuild of the whole car!
Install a short shifter is no big deal. You have to remove the rubber and under there is a spring. If you remove the spring you can pull out the shifter. But before you have to disconnect it from the shifter linkage.

@@ryandunn8374 I bought it from a guy in the mx3forum, but you can find some short shifters at ebay. Its for mx3 and 323, but fits for ford escort and some others too. Search for mx3 short shifter at ebay. I think its one of the cheap versions I have, but it works great.

What a great sound! What muffler band did you use? I have a ZE with headers and 2.5" pipe and it sounds good, but not that good. Do you use a resonator?
Rearmuffler is invidia. Mid muffler unknown brand. The bigger flexpipe for the headers made a bit difference too. My girlfriends ZE has a 60mm catback, but the pipes are so thin, that the sound isn't nice. Its only damn loud. So the thickness of the pipes make a big difference too.
Your MX-3 is beautiful, I love how you are modifying it. I have to admit that I'm using some of your videos as a reference to start restoring and modifying mine, starting with swapping the engine to a KL-ZE. One question, what make and model is the radiator you put on your MX-3? Thanks a lot!
Thx mate. 😊 The radiator is from china. You could find it at ebay or aliexpress. Its unbranded I think. I tried to get another one for my girlfriends MX-3, but the seller at aliexpress told me, he can't deliver, because production of the radiators ended.

One last question, and sorry to bother, what car are the front discs you use with the Mazda 6 brake calipers from? All discs with 4x100 holes have a lower height than what the Mazda 6 uses.
@@MrGarapablo its a renauls scenic disc. I made center rings to make it fit and used some distancediscs for the caliper to centering the disc to the caliper.
Hi, very interesting stuff. The workshop seems familiar, i am pretty sure I bought a couple of KLDE engines from you back in 2017-2018, i drove from Denmark :-) Where did you get the poly bushes for the front wishbones? And what ECU do you use for the KLZE is a KL31 or a chip?
Thanks. I think you bought the two KLDE engines from my friend. It was from a probe and mx6. I only sold one KLDE many years ago and it was fully painted with gold valvecovers. The poly bushes are from poliuretany.olkusz.pl I started with the KL31 ECU at a Curvedneck KLZE with KL31 cams, but the KL31 ECU is for the Straightneck KLZE, so the VRIS points are incorrect, otherwise fuel and timing could be incorrect too. Then I changed to a KL07 (KLDE) ECU with a chip for Curvedneck ZE. I increased power from 179hp to 197hp.
Where do you find a klze motor? i've a mazda mx-3 v6 from 1991 with 136 hp and 201k km, one of the first produced but, I'm looking for the KLZE engine with gearbox.
10 years ago it was no problem to get a KLZE. But now its very hard and expensive. Another problem is, that most of the KLZEs which offered, are no real KLZEs. Sometimes its a KLDE with Curvedneck or Straightneck intake manifold. So be sure you buy a engine with KL31 heads an high comp. pistons.
@@tagmos6011 ford probe gearbox is a cheap option. It has the same gear ratio as the mx3 but the 5. gear is taller. Best option in my opinion is the xedos 6 Prefacelift geabox.
Loved the transformation and dedication over the time! How much HP does it have with the new upgraded engine? I own a very different car, a '99 Fiat Bravo 2.0 20v HGT (NA 5 cylinder). It has a very addicted sound and it's sooo good in corners, despite weighting 1300kg, but the 155cv are enough to push and it looks like it's glued to the ground, it's incredible
Thanks mate. I never dynoed it after the rebuild. I think its almost the same power ~200hp. Hopefully next year I find time to run it on a megasquirt ECU and make some more power. I love 5 cylinders. I ever say, when I have to much money, I will build a multipla with the 5cyl turbo engine from the coupe. 😁 I can see at the slower racetracks or touge, you don't need much power if your car is fast in the corners.

Hey. What parts do you want? The cams are from dbilas in Germany. But there are factorys in UK and USA which offer cams for the V6 engines. I think headers you can find on ebay. When I bought the headers there were many offers from different factorys, but now the parts are relly rare. My header is from toyosports.uk. The upgraded valve springs I have, are from australia. So if I know what part are you searching for, maybe I can help you to find. best regards Dennis
Well I would love to do a full engine forged rebuild kit because I was looking to turbocharge the mx3 or would I have to source the parts separately, because I’m not seeing any kits on my search browser 😅 or would it just be easier to do an engine swap? Regards Jordan

Hi. Also Motor ist ein ursprünglich ein Straightneck KLZE. Hab die Curvedneck Ansaugbrücke verbaut, damit ich nicht soviel anpassen muss. Dann hab ich die KL31 Nockenwellen Dbilas Nockenwelle getauscht, Köpfe sind etwas runter geschliffen für mehr Verdichtung, ansonsten ist der Motor soweit Serie. Ansaugung ist ein green Twister Filter, Abgasanlage = Toyosports Fächerkrümmer optimiert auf 2,5" Flexrohr, Magnaflow 200Zellen Kat in 2,5", Catback 2,5" mit MSD (Hersteller unbekannt) und ESD von Invidia. Steuergerät ist ein gechiptes KL07 verbaut, das auf den Curvedneck ZE optimiert wurde. Gibt noch ältere Videos wo der Umbau ab 2009 zu sehen ist.

@@Mad4Tracks1 yes I know. Dbilas offers springs too, but its triple the price. My revlimiter is set to 7700rpm. I rev it until ~7500rpm. I think the weak point is the oilpump. If you go to 8000 or more, the pump can't handle it and you lose oilpressure.
Thanks! Yes I read about that, I also got an upgraded oil pump from Boundary and plan to enlarge/smoothen the oil passage to the #6 main bearing. I find the main oil gallery has a very sharp turn at the back of the block to enter #6 so I hope this will help. :D
Siehst du in meinen anderen Videos 😉😁 Also der ZE hat mit Fächerkrümmer und 2,5" Abgasanlage 179PS gemacht auf einem zuverlässigen Prüfstand. Danach kam ein Cold Air Intake und ein gechiptes Steuergerät rein, welches auf den Curvedneck ZE abgestimmt war und dann lagen 197PS an. Danach noch Dbilas Nockenwellen, die haben dann zwar nur 2PS gebracht, aber dafür hat er von 6000Umin bis in den Begrenzer über 190PS gehalten. Ich denke mit einer Abstimmung auf die Nockenwellen ist da noch mehr drin. Im Nachhinein hab ich das Flexrohr und den Auspuff nochmal optimiert für besseren Flow. Nächste Messung wird aber wahrscheinlich erst kommen wenn ich ihn mit Megasquirt abstimme.
@@FloMX-3 kenne ein paar Leute die den K8 tunen wollten, bis sie einmal KL gefahren sind, dann kam direkt der Motorswap. Kenne einen der hat ca. 10t€ in ein K8 gesteckt um auf die Leistung von einem KLDE zu kommen. Also es lohnt einfach absolut nicht, zumal du untenrum mit dem KL auch schon so viel mehr Drehmoment hast, dass du ihn viel schaltfauler fahren kannst. Im Endeffekt verbraucht er sogar knapp das gleiche wie der K8. Am meisten bringt eigentlich ein Fächerkrümmer mit einer Strömungsoptimierten Abgasanlage und ggf ein 200 Zellen Kat. Ansonsten ein frei programmierbares Steuergerät mit dem du dann auch den Luftmengenmesser raus werfen kannst und schonmal für deutlich mehr Luftzufuhr sorgst. Mit schärferen Nockenwellen könntest du noch etwas raus holen, aber danach gehts das ehr mit viel Geld oder viel Arbeit in so kleinen Schritten vorran, dass du kaum was davon merken wirst. Woher kommst du denn?

@@Studio_Wahnsinn ja und nicht nur das, der ging trotz der 165PS einfach nur abgrundtief schlecht. Denke auch dass er die Leistung nicht wirklich gemacht hat. Die Firms die den Umbau damals gemacht hat, gibt oft Leistungsdiagramme raus, die etwas mehr anzeigen. So ein Prüfstand ist ja leicht zu manipulieren. Ich werde meinen wieder auf exakt dem gleichen Prüfstand messen, wo ich auch die anderen Messungen gemacht habe, sonst weiss ich nicht was das ganze wirklich gebracht hat.

I wanted to keep my wheels, so I had go again with 4x100 hub. I used the mx3 hub in the 323 knuckle. The discs are from a Renault Scenic with 4x100. I just had to make an adapter center ring.
@@ZeoRyu same problem. wanted to keep my rims so i fited 4x100 hubs onto v6 knuckles. miata (gen 2) 270mm disc fits but there is now a 1-2 mm overlap b-pads above disc. this was done on 1.5 becouse original brakes are tragic. i also got v6 rear bridge vith hubs and calipers wich will be mounted soon. i think im gonna grind 1-2 mm off the b-pads and leave it like that. braking is so much better with 270mm over 235mm and with v6 calipers
I don't know if there was a header available for the B6 engine. The most parts I ordered were from ebay. So I don't have a special website for MX3 parts.
@@SlayStormer ne, aber mein legaler, eingetragener Auspuff am MR-2 schon, der sogar leiser ist. 😅 Muss aber auch sagen ich wurde schon ewig nicht mehr angehalten mit dem MX-3. Die Abgasanlage war mal von SPS und wurde von denen als Remus eingetragen. Fächerkrümmer ist auch eingetragen.

i had the same car when i was 16 then swap in 323 after i had an e36 m3, sti, g35s i still miss the klze i wish i kept it , the engine sound !!!

You don't need another gearbox. You can take the mx3 gearbox if you want.

Thanks! Yes I read about that, I also got an upgraded oil pump from Boundary and plan to enlarge/smoothen the oil passage to the #6 main bearing. I find the main oil gallery has a very sharp turn at the back of the block to enter #6 so I hope this will help. :D

Hey, ich hab auch einen MX-3 mit v6 was hast du denn gemacht um 200 ps aus dem rauszu holen?
Siehst du in meinen anderen Videos 😉😁 Also der ZE hat mit Fächerkrümmer und 2,5" Abgasanlage 179PS gemacht auf einem zuverlässigen Prüfstand. Danach kam ein Cold Air Intake und ein gechiptes Steuergerät rein, welches auf den Curvedneck ZE abgestimmt war und dann lagen 197PS an. Danach noch Dbilas Nockenwellen, die haben dann zwar nur 2PS gebracht, aber dafür hat er von 6000Umin bis in den Begrenzer über 190PS gehalten. Ich denke mit einer Abstimmung auf die Nockenwellen ist da noch mehr drin. Im Nachhinein hab ich das Flexrohr und den Auspuff nochmal optimiert für besseren Flow. Nächste Messung wird aber wahrscheinlich erst kommen wenn ich ihn mit Megasquirt abstimme.
Hast du paar Ideen wie man mehr Leistung aus dem 1,8 Liter holen kann? Finde den eigentlich ganz cool und würde ihn ungern tauschen.
@@FloMX-3 kenne ein paar Leute die den K8 tunen wollten, bis sie einmal KL gefahren sind, dann kam direkt der Motorswap.
Kenne einen der hat ca. 10t€ in ein K8 gesteckt um auf die Leistung von einem KLDE zu kommen. Also es lohnt einfach absolut nicht, zumal du untenrum mit dem KL auch schon so viel mehr Drehmoment hast, dass du ihn viel schaltfauler fahren kannst. Im Endeffekt verbraucht er sogar knapp das gleiche wie der K8.
Am meisten bringt eigentlich ein Fächerkrümmer mit einer Strömungsoptimierten Abgasanlage und ggf ein 200 Zellen Kat. Ansonsten ein frei programmierbares Steuergerät mit dem du dann auch den Luftmengenmesser raus werfen kannst und schonmal für deutlich mehr Luftzufuhr sorgst. Mit schärferen Nockenwellen könntest du noch etwas raus holen, aber danach gehts das ehr mit viel Geld oder viel Arbeit in so kleinen Schritten vorran, dass du kaum was davon merken wirst.

@@Studio_Wahnsinn ja und nicht nur das, der ging trotz der 165PS einfach nur abgrundtief schlecht. Denke auch dass er die Leistung nicht wirklich gemacht hat. Die Firms die den Umbau damals gemacht hat, gibt oft Leistungsdiagramme raus, die etwas mehr anzeigen. So ein Prüfstand ist ja leicht zu manipulieren. Ich werde meinen wieder auf exakt dem gleichen Prüfstand messen, wo ich auch die anderen Messungen gemacht habe, sonst weiss ich nicht was das ganze wirklich gebracht hat.

Do you mean tuning parts or original spare parts? Some KLZE parts are hard to find, like the whole engine 😅
why the different intake manifold? Does it flow better than the original square port that runs into the air intake, or is this off a K8 pr KJ motor?
Because the straightneck IM doesn't fit into a LHD MX-3 without modify it. Its a squareport manifold too.
how did u fit 300mm discs on 323v6 knuckles? adapter of sort or?
I wanted to keep my wheels, so I had go again with 4x100 hub. I used the mx3 hub in the 323 knuckle. The discs are from a Renault Scenic with 4x100. I just had to make an adapter center ring.
If you go with 5x114,3 its way easier. You can use the Mazda 6 disc pnp.
@@ZeoRyu same problem. wanted to keep my rims so i fited 4x100 hubs onto v6 knuckles. miata (gen 2) 270mm disc fits but there is now a 1-2 mm overlap b-pads above disc. this was done on 1.5 becouse original brakes are tragic. i also got v6 rear bridge vith hubs and calipers wich will be mounted soon. i think im gonna grind 1-2 mm off the b-pads and leave it like that. braking is so much better with 270mm over 235mm and with v6 calipers

I don't know if there was a header available for the B6 engine. The most parts I ordered were from ebay. So I don't have a special website for MX3 parts.

@@SlayStormer ne, aber mein legaler, eingetragener Auspuff am MR-2 schon, der sogar leiser ist. 😅
Muss aber auch sagen ich wurde schon ewig nicht mehr angehalten mit dem MX-3. Die Abgasanlage war mal von SPS und wurde von denen als Remus eingetragen. Fächerkrümmer ist auch eingetragen.
