They used to have a polar bear at the Philadelphia zoo, and they had this big plexiglass observation area where you could see inside the water tank. I watched the bear push a medicine ball down 20ft underwater like it was nothing, it was incredible.
Its interesting hearing the zookeepers talk about how ferocious the Polar Bears would be to even staff, even in their well fed docile environment. For one, you just dont often hear animal handlers talk about the inherent dangers of the animals, mostly with crocs and venomous snakes you hear that, but Grizzly Bear handlers are all over YT sticking their heads in their mouths. Secondly, for me, my GF is from AK and her father has been taken out with Natives to harvest Balene from whales and the Natives can be on one side of the whale harvesting blubber and Balene with Polar Bears on the opposite side just enjoying the free meal.

Awesome zoo! Workers are very friendly and well informed about the animals. The polar bear tunnel is the coolest! Kinda funny that the bears can see the ringed seal aquarium from their enclosure though.😂
In Vienna there is the oldest zoo in the world and they have a really deep pool or more like a pond for their polar bears and you can watch them dive in there
I've ridden a Bactrian camel once as a kid. It was so high up; I felt like I was on an elephant! And although I've always known bears are omnivores, but polar bears are definitely carnivores in the wild, it's interesting that they feed them fruit and vegetables and so basically omnivores too, and looks like they really like lettuce! And wow, the keepers saying they would not ever want to get in a situation where they could be in the polar bear's pen despite working with them every day, because they are so confident that she wouldn't hesitate to eat them, that's quite the reality check! Cute ≠ friendly! Good to know!
what an incredible experience! Seeing these amazing animals up close and learning about them was truly eye-opening. The polar bear interaction was definitely a highlight. 😍
Detroit Zoo has a very similar setup for their polar bears. It's definitely my favorite exhibit there and has been since I was a child. It's mostly used for the seals these days, but there are plenty of other parts of the exhibit where you are that close up with them.
And here i thought polar bears were hyper carnivorous 😮🤯 thus is why I love Forrest's channel! You learn so much lol! We need to see forrest and the Irwins collaborate a video!❤
@Dustin-r8p oh! 🤣 alright, bet, lmao! Does that mean that when they do find vegetation in the wild they like, they'll graze a bit? P.s. thanks for the comment! It's awesome to have a genuine convo on the platform 😁
wild polar bears only eat meat because thats all thats available to them. but they are basically brown bears with some adaptations for extreme cold. i am guessing that they dont have the money to only feed them seals.
More than happy to chat about pretty well any animal haha! So, in the colder months when sea ice is available, the bears will eat primarily meat. When that ice melts and they become landlocked, they lose access to seals and forage on a variety of things, including berries! Edit: apparently I have different RUclips accounts on my desktop and phone but I am the same dustin. 😅
They're often hyper carnivorous in the wild out of necessity, but it needs to be remembered they are fundamentally brown bears and are not far removed at all (even readily interbreed in the wild).
Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium has a polar bear and underground tube like that. It's such a humbling moment being that close to the biggest murda puppy ever.
You can see it in the polar bears attitude it would eat you in a heartbeat. Does not like the target thing but likes food. I bet if you throw a target stick over the wall just watch how fast the bear would destroy it.
I just learned there are at least 8 confirmed jaguars in the United States, specifically in Arizona. It would be super cool if jaguars were able to reproduce and thrive in the American ecosystem
there is even a thing in the area where they are that if they are on a farmers land and they kill an animal, that farmer gets compensated by the state. so the farmers want jaguars there becauae it makes them money. pretty cool. they should do the same here with wolves. wokves are making a comeback here but many people arent happy with it, because those people suck at protecting their sheep.
the beaver is the second largest rodent, and the okapi is the giraffe's closest living relative (though an argument could be made that the okapi is itself a species of giraffe)
