Me: "I bet none of this is going to apply to me.." Garrett: "Get rid of the extra throw pillows."
Me: 😬
🤣🤣🤣
😂 hahaha this post made me laugh out loud!
Same here.
My rule is I buy only things I LOVE. Liking isn't good enough, being a space filler or the right color isn't good enough. I have some handmade decor items I bought 50 years ago and I still LOVE them.
Love that!
Me too !!! I have to love it…
The moment you brought up the extra throw pillows, my husband yelled from across the room "THANK YOU GARRETT"! He hates them 😂
Love the brutal honesty, we need it. You are the hero we don't deserve!!!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed. 😊
@@CGC1954 So true!!! The fact you need to throw them on the ground to be able to use your bed/couch is enough to not want them.
Don’t scream but my parents that are older still have fake ivy about their cabinets! I can’t! 😂
I have dried lavender stems in a vase in my bathroom. Makes me smile because I grew the lavender.
That's lovely. 😍
That's nice... but when there's more dust than plant it's time to chuck it. 😊
And lavender smells good and is relaxing and can be changed out-smart choice for a restroom
I’m getting rid of throw pillows. I keep one on each couch for resting and I only put a couple on our bed when we have company. I’m really over un peeling and taking everything off the bed every night.
The older I get the more intentional I get about what and how much is sitting on the surfaces. The easier to dust the better.
I got it all- stems , wine racks, bar with decanters, balls of all kinds in a bowl. And a vintage ashtray. It’s all the things I love . I like stuff. Oh and I have cut down on pillows , just three on bed , so that’s good . Also, no fake flowers in bath . I’m keeping my Balls
Nothing worse than a jar filled with dried moss balls! We set up a home tour with our fresh arrangements. I accidentally knocked into the homeowners display of those. The moss flew onto the console and onto the floor!! She stood over me while I tried to wipe all the debris up.
I now associate mean rich ladies with moss spheres 😁
I don’t understand the decor balls either. Weird.
that reminds me of dusty ass potpourri that was everywhere in the 90s 😂
Bah ha ha there’s a time and place for a good set of balls!😂😂😂😂. How did you say that with a straight face. Omg I’m howling. Love your humour!
🤣🤣🤣
So funny!! I had a wonderful laugh out loud! 😂❤
OMG, 😂, I actually have a set of 3 different wooden balls that I used to put in a vase. I don’t use it anymore, prob because I thought it was ugly.
The ashtrays that don't look like ashtrays are perfect for chocolates/ pralinés. Especially cute in a guest room. Just 3-5 cute chocolates, maybe a cloche over them.
One item of decor I will never understand is the string of wood beads with tassel on the end draped on a coffee table! Why?
Prayer beads.
They know what the food is like.
Right? When Garrett mentioned the balls, I immediately thought of the wooden beads.
Why not?
I have one on my dining room table 😅 Just needed something in my tray and figured why not.
They don’t have cats 🤷🏼♀️
I def agree about the bar being a tucked away cabinet.
YES to “Less is more!”
I think bathrooms are the dustiest rooms in the house, so to me, that’s the last place for plants/florals should be.
Totally agree! And after all that towel drying and hair blow drying, the room becomes the next dust bowl. I want those countertops with the least amount of stuff as possible.
Garrett, the problem with the balls is we all own beautiful bowls and can’t figure out what to put in them ! :)
Nothing
A beautiful bowl was created to look at not to be filled
Unless it’s a popcorn bowl
Is potpourri a total no-no, if you don't put all the balls and sticks and wood type pieces in it?
@@desireelaurelli4579I wouldn’t put potpourri in mine because I don’t think it looks good. If you like it in the bowl, go for it.
I sometimes put lemons or other fruit in mine. I don't have balls.
I thought accent balls were a LONG time ago, and wooden beads followed them.
I don't personally have dried branches but after seeing your photo of the black furnishings, white wall, with the delicate tracery of black branches, I have to disagree. Those branches are the perfect foil to the stark heaviness of the setting.
Dried plants, like branches and tingtings, frequently screw up your feng shui.😁 There's rarely a part of your life you want sort of dead vibes.
I am using vintage Czech glass ashtrays as a catch for keys etc. Highly recommend :D
Cool empty alcohol bottles can be repurposed. I have a few that I put oil in and keep on the kitchen counter for cooking. Other than that, I agree 100%.
St. Germaine bottles 🌟 😍 🌟
Those little dish trays are great for placing your earrings or necklaces where you quickly place in at the end of the day. Later you can go back and put them back in your jewelry box.
As someone who has family members with chronic pain, having a ton of pillows and blankets allows them to get as comfortable as they can.. and the pain location changes, depending on the day. So many different types of pillow are needed. I'd say have the pillows, but, maybe, put some in closed storage if you don't need it at that time.
there is room for need. question is ..does the usability of this item overtake the extra effort to move it out of the way when not used. By all means.. if it is useful... its all about making your home balance clutter/ease of use/decor...to your taste.
Garrett…I have an excellent use for those little wedge wood ash trays. Keep them under your small oil bottles and your pepper grinders that are in your cabinet. It will catch any escaping pepper or oil, thereby keeping your interior cabinet clean. Every once in awhile I take those little dishes out and wash them, then return them under my grinder or oil bottle. It looks nice and neat, serves a function, and allows you to collect more if you enjoy those tiny “ashtrays.” 😊
Another fun video! Love your critique of pillow overload, artificial floral arrangements in the bathroom (yuck), alcohol on display, decorative ashtrays. We part ways when it comes to decorative balls. Spheres/round objects have been displayed in bowls and on trays for centuries -- faberge eggs (okay, not quite round, haha, but certainly not useful!), baccarat crystal spheres, marble spheres. They're no longer on trend, but I've always been drawn to expensive, round, objects.
Thanks so much!
That pillow on its corner looks like a shark fin coming to get you. Da dump... da dump... dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt dun da DAAAHHH!
🦈🦈🦈
We have fresh flowers in our home. Sourced from a certain Big Box retailer each week. Roses usually. They look great. We put them in different vases.
Sounds great!
I normally don't listen to videos like this BUT my goodness you are right! It's not about what's not in trend anymore, it's about curating your space! Made me think for sure!
I used to collect vintage ash trays, large weird shapes. They were sometimes useful for keys and such. Now I am much more minimalist they are gone. At least I didn't put moss balls in them.
I have an old alcohol bottle, it's green glass and might have been a wine bottle, that is over 50 years old. I use it as a change jar. When it gets full, I take it to the bank and cash it in. It was something that my dad had and he also use it as a chain star. It has sentimental value.
“Villain error” I love 💜 that for you!!!
So funny -- there is a time and a place for a good set of balls --- Hi-larious!!
🤣🤣🤣
That one got me, too. Had to hit pause long enough to quit laughing.😂
I laughed so hard I dang near pissed myself😂
I like to use those little personal ashtray's and vintage butter pats as a spoon rest for my coffee spoons in my coffee station.
The geisha arrange flowers in 3 major patterns: s shaped, o shaped, and triangle pointed up shape. Have fun and put the tea on!❤❤❤
So glad you're embracing your villain phase. You convicted me on the throw pillows! I love your cool box solution to the mystery balls.
*Bar carts, Branches and Balls....Oh My* . I despise bar carts especially glass ones, they are a nightmare to clean. I love using branches in my arrangements. I have several faux willow branches than can be manipulated into fun shapes, I love the the organic whimsy they add. I don't hate the balls, I like them in a decorative bowl or rustic dough bowl. Keeping my moss and twig balls for color and texture. 😜
This is such great advice, Garrett - taking a look around now and then, and asking yourself, "Why is this here? Do I use it? Am I sick of cleaning it or looking at it?!" And not every surface and empty spot needs _something_ let alone layers of stuff ✨
Great idea!😊
I've never been into trends. I style my home with what I like and what looks appealing to me.
That’s awesome because I don’t push jumping on trends.
Garrett, the pretty retro ash tray dishes work great under small plants. If it matches the vibe in your decor... why not repurpose, right?
Plants (live 😂) love my bathroom. The humidity and light is perfect.
Thank GOODNESS no extra throw pillows. I have always had an aversion for throw pillows. They usually wind up on the floor. No one will ever put them back.
“There’s a good time and a place for a good set of balls!” Lmao. 😂
I needed this video today! I am so ready to declutter stuff😁 Thank you!!!,
You are so welcome!
You are a HOOT! How can we have so much fun while hearing the drop-dead truth? Listen to Garrett! Dead branches, dead flowers, an overabundance of tchotchkes and dusting more than drinking! All TWEW! Tell it like it is Garrett.... especially getting rid of the dozens of dust-catcher 'ornaments' that are mostly in the $20 range and just clutter. UGH!
Thanks so much Page! Great to hear from you. 😊😊😊
So glad to hear from you again! I’ve been missing you the last few days!
Welcome back!
Oh my word you read my mind about all those pillows! I watch all the decor shows and there's always too many pillows but I've never seen anybody actually say it. Bravo!
At last! Someone speaking out about alcohol on display. I watch several H&G channels on RUclips (but you are my favorite) and even in the smallest interiors, there is a bar cart taking up valuable space. I do not need my house to scream "open bar" to anyone who stops by. Thank you for being the voice of reason
Thanks so much for your comment and for supporting the channel!
Oops -- turns out I DO live in the throw pillow section of Home Goods! :)
"there's a time and a place for a good set of balls" hahahahahahahahaahha🤣😅😂🤣🙃🤣😇 That said, I do add a handblown glass ball (created locally) to the top of my vases to keep dust out of them. It's consistent in each vase so the repeating visual element works, but then since my husband is allergic to flowers, no vase in my home ever gets flowers or branches arranged in them - real or fake.
Best quote ever!! 😂😂😂
I have that same glass tray with the Greek design and metal stand. As a midcentury modern collector, I love it!
Agree..and everyone is shopping for the same trendy stuff..and decoratating like everyone else..be you, unique... Decorate with what you love...ugh
I always love your videos! I absolutely love the sass with the very practical advice.
Thank you so much!😊
I overloaded my sofas with pillows. My nephews would come over and after a short time 1/2 of them would be on the floor. It was OBNOXIOUS. They weren't trying to throw them it's just they were all in the way, and because my sofas are leather the pillows were constantly sliding off. Now I have just a few. And they get used and are not in the way.
👍👍👍
This video made me realize I still had what once were two live eucalyptus branches I got for the holidays but still had sitting around but is now dried out. This was a great reminder to toss them...which I did.
I'm 30 seconds in and already feel attacked. Sobbing on my mountain of throw pillows rn 😂😂
😔😔😔
I fell off my chair laughing about halfway through the "balls" segment - thank you for brightening my day!
😃😃😃
I always agree with you. In this video I especially related with the decorative balls, or the fake plants/florals in the bathroom. Ugh!
I just got a sweater that looks just like yours delivered yesterday 🥰
Love your content! Thank you!
Hope you like it! Thanks so much.
Thank you. I needed your joy.
You are so welcome
“The pillow turned on its corner - I feel that as a personal attack on me”. Love it! 🤣🤣🤣
Great video!
Thanks!
Love this!!!
Thanks!
Good advice Garret, Love all your videos!
Glad you like them! Thanks for your support.
Hilarious content, so timely, and on point. Stay villianous, Garrett!
🤣🤣🤣
I need villainous @garrettlechic in my life!!
I need mucho pillows on my daybed for my elegant lounge pose!!!
Haha, love ya Garrett.
😁😁😁
I try to “save” the beautiful ashtrays and give them a new life.😅
I live right in the middle of wine country. I could care less about wine or really most alcohols just don't do it for me. I might have two or three drinks a year. So I am not going to waste my money on a wine cellar or big wine display. But I have seen some really fancy ones. Lots of money tied up in those bottles. They better hope we don't have an earthquake.
Omg I so agree about the bar carts!
I love your narrations ,you state it .. and you own it !
Wow, thank you!
I have a bowl with balls in it on my dining table.🤣🤣🤣just the other day, I was thinking it's time to put something else in it or get rid of it...I do agree about the pillows. too many takes the beauty away of each pillow. Especially if you have designer pillows
Drawers, drawers, drawers for all base cabinets even if a pantry cabinet. Makes so much more effecient storage for everything in the kitchen.
That makes so much sense about the dishwasher location.
Great video! 👌🏻♥️
Glad you liked it!!
I really love your villian era 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
The one kitchen clip looked as though they raided the old set of Gilligan’s island to style the room. 😂
But your ashtrays are little pieces of art and there is history behind them. They encapsulate a different time of life and culture. I have a few beautiful ones that were my moms on display , naturally they remind me of her and make me smile. Love you and your channel. You are honest to a fault and I’m here for that.
Good point! Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying.
Thank you for the useful information, but a special thank you for the smiles that you gave me.
My pleasure! Thank you for supporting the channel. 😊😊😊
Spot on advice delivered with your witty charm🌟. Would love to see a video about your thoughts on displaying couple / family / travel photos. 🌞
Thanks so much! I’ve discussed family photos in previous videos.😊😊😊
@@GarrettLeChic Thanks so much. I’ll look for that video 😊
Love the sweater, definitely one of my favorite colors. The bathroom tips are great. Thanks
You are so welcome!
I am very minimalist but I actually have to add something to my walls 😂
I love your videos so much! I love how they feel like a fun conversation with just me! Also, I LOVE that sweater on you! ❤
Yay! Thank you! I truly appreciate your lovely comment and supporting the channel. 😊😊😊
Hi Garrett, I so enjoyed this video. Currently, going through my house donating things that either aren’t my style or just too much. Perfect timing to reaffirm my need to get rid of all things that make no sense. Your honesty is appreciated. ❤
Sounds great! I appreciate you supporting the channel.
You were extra cheeky in this one, and I’m here for it. Laughed out loud at the “time and place for a good set of balls”. ❤😊
Glad you enjoyed
I do like properly curated branches. We had a corkscrew willow tree on the side of our house. It was a poor placement, as it didn't shed its leaves until December on top of ice many years also the roots were getting into our septic pipes. But, the branches were beautiful.
When we had the tree removed (it was clogging our gutters and making our deck and stoop a fall hazard) I collected the best looking branches from the tree and use them in the winter in our McCoy vases. The branches curl beautifully and look nice. I wouldn't use just any old branch, but these are lovely and reminds me of the tree. 🍃 My husband took some thicker branches and made walking sticks.
Your other ideas, I agree with, Garrett. 🙂
I agree with many things you covered in this video. I don't know about you but I worry about what insects are in & on the tree branches & live greenery that people bring into their homes. On the ash trays I have a couple that hold my watercolor brushes when I am painting. I like the look of the var carts with pretty glassware but we don't drink so no cart for us. Hope you are having a great week.
Thanks so much, and same to you! Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊😊😊
My friend loves Chinese Blue Willow. She uses the ashtray as her spoon rest at her coffee station!
Had to chuckle when you were talking about bar carts. I'm not a fan of them but I do have an antique wrought iron telephone stand that I use as a liquor cabinet. It's unique and everything is hidden away. I agree on throw pillows, I have very few (like 4) and don't need any more.
Great video.
Love your sweater
Thanks so much! I appreciate you supporting the channel.
Just discovered you , love your content .You make sense and don’t tippy toe around our precious feelings .
Thanks so much! Great information and honesty is what you get here. I’m actually a formally educated interior designer so I’m happy to share what I learned in college, and the past decade in general. @@GarrettLeChic I will subscribe. Looking forward to viewing your videos and added humour .
@@maggiefisker994 Awesome! Thanks.
Garrett, my mother used her wedgewood ashtrays all the time. Seems horrifying now, but 🤷🏼♀️
Also, if you want to display liquor, fine crystal decanters are fine with me. I find empty bottles pretentious.
The issue with some crystal decanters is they are lead crystal and actually toxic to store alcohol for long periods of time. When I learned that, I sold the ones I owned. Now we just display liquor in their own bottles, the home bar is its own feature. But we don’t keep empties, because, why..?
Love your videos! I’m guilty of having a fake plant in the bathroom. But so agree with everything you said!
Thanks for your support! Glad you are enjoying.
Always love your content! And thank you for saying what we all were thinking about knick knacks such as twine balls, excessive throw pillows, and so on.
Thanks so much, and thank you for your support!
OMG!😂 You are quite entertaining. Great advice. You brighten up my day.
I'm so glad! Yay. 😊😊😊
I guess I need a couple of throw pillows... I have none.
Good advice
Thanks!
I can’t move for laughing here 😂 I’m in the UK 🇬🇧 and when you said ‘Balls in a vase’… it sounded like ‘Balls in a face’ hahaha. We pronounce vase as ‘vars’ here, that’ll make me laugh all week long. Thanks for cheering me up, another great vid 😘
🤣🤣🤣
Great pointers!! I like the way you style your hair.
Thank you so much!
12:05 it might have been a candy dish ❤
A video on collections would be a good topic, now that you mention it…
