western wine Industries will be just fine, california can't grow burgundy and oregon, can't grow australian shiraz, china will have to find what works for them, thats the neat part about the wine industry unlike many others you can't duplicate the terroir of another area, so china's success will require them to develop their own style, if and when they do competition between the industries will be minimal at most. I'd like to see china try to recreate a cold climate pinot noir!

Australian wine industry already suffered a lot due to the tarifs and also had a tough time finding alternatives. Overall we have overproduction of wine and declining consumption in the developed wine drinking nation. Chinese are very creative people and probably they could make pinot. I have tried some Bordeaux styles Chinese wine and were very well made.

I have already tried a wine from ninxia and was pretty damn good. Prices however are very high, as conditions are hard. They need to bury the vines during the winter time, otherwise vines will die due to low temperatures. Costs of production are very high.
Been to ningxa in 2011 , touring forestation site to prevent desertification... I think to see the wine yard there in this video is just amazing. I remember been stuck for days due to sand storm , mostly very arid landscape. The fact wineyard are existing is already a proof of the dedication to improve environment there.
