Mr. Scott, was in a catagory of his own...it's a shame that he didn't get all that he was worth. My mom turned me on to him at an early age. Also, she always went to see him, because he was from our home town. That's a bonus! Anyway, if you all could just listen to all his music, I'm sure if you like this song, you'll enjoy the rest. Thanks Mr. Scott for your hard work, and for using the gift God gave you. Love you, and your art forever..............................................
Jimmy Scott, seeing HIM in concert in HARLEM, Montreal, Japan,,always a MARVELOUS Message in all his tunes.....PS Medicine for the SOUL......SIP IN THE AFTERLIFE.....
@tristramshandy3 Why people can't listen to both? I do. Gaga is pop, that's why she has so many views, Jimmy is great without being pop, but you don't need to despise one to enjoy the other, and fuck the numbers, dude! If you like an artist, all that matters is how it pleases you, otherwise you don't really care about the music, not enough to give a damn about what other people [and how many people] are listening to and enjoy what you like.
LadyP4u2: Yes he did come from quite a talenthood of 'Jazz Singer's and Musicians,' Billie Holday, Dinah Washington, wh at the **** more could you ask for. I adore this man, he is an emotive vocalist. Be in Peace~
Me 2! Why you ask? Well, after watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the end credit song was Nothing Compares 2 U (in Spanish?) and was searching for the song in English, sang by the wonderfull Sinead O'Conner. And there was a comment by somebody about Jimmy Scott also performing the song. So I listen, keep on listining... and now im here! And this voice is brilliant!
I need help. In 1958 I had 3 78's by Jimmy Scott. Each one was a reference to a love letter. When I moved the movers claimed the boxes were lost. (right) If anyone comes across those songs please e-mail me. cryztal2938@gmail.com I am 81 yrs. I would love for my children to hear these songs if possible. There will never be another L.J.S. Thank you
Wow!! I have spent a lot of years missing this kind of jazz singing. LJS was a master vocalist and the arrangement here is boss!! RIP Jimmy, we can't really hold back the years, so we just go with the flow and will soon follow you.
I WOULD PLAY JIMMY SCOTT ALL DAY LONG especially this cd..WHEN I WOULD SLIP OUT OF THE OFFICE AND BRING MY WORK HOME...SOME HOW IT WOULD MAKE THE DAY GO EASIER....
Love this! This song meant a whole lot to me when I was younger, I was a pretty introspective kid, I guess. Jimmy and the band take the jazz implied in the Simply Red original, and run with it. As usual, Mr. Scott's phrasing is impossibly perfect. The trumpet and piano get to play faster and looser than Simply Red's did. Of course, the original was done in a pop/R&B style. I'd like to see Mick Hucknall perform the song this way sometime.
This man sings the MARROW out of a lyric. No one, male or female, past or present has his genius for phrasing. What a GIFT!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
Saw him in concert many years ago in NYC. Every time I hear his voice, I cry while smiling. Thank you for your precious gifts.
I think this is the best cover version I've heard of a song. Nicely out of tune and with a perfect voice control. Little Jimmy The Great.

Nancy Wilson wasn't playing when she says that Jim Scott was her biggest influence.
RIP, may you have a peaceful journey.

I wonder what Mick Hucknall thinks of the way his song has been adapted to fit LJS's style?
I never even heard of him until his death, but he sings so well.
I have just discovered Jimmy Scott. How on earth did I not know this voice!!?? Gorgeousness.
I did today... wow!
