- The next playthrough set is on the way as I tackle the next Mega Man game in the Classic series, Mega Man 9.
This Mega Man game marks several firsts when it came out. First and foremost, it was the first Classic series game to be made in a decade (came out in 2008 while the last game, Megaman & Bass, came out in 1998). It was the first Mega Man game made for all of the current generation consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii). It was also the first time in a LONG while that they used "retro-styled" 8-bit graphics similar to the NES. The intention and result was a feel that harkened back to the good old days of Mega Man games, or at the very least, Mega Man 2, in particular. Oh, there's also the fact that this game is the first in the Classic series (and the only one to date) to introduce a FEMALE Robot Master. Who would have thought?
While there were some concerns about this gaming direction (i.e. the return to 8-bit graphics and being a downloadable title amongst others), most critics were silenced as the solid gameplay spoke volumes as it is top-notch. The level design and graphics, despite emulating an outdated style, is still great to look at. Not to mention the game's soundtrack is one of the best, even rivaling and/or surpassing the famed Megaman 2 soundtrack depending on opinion.
As for the story... well, we're going to save that for later because the game mode in this game has no story. In this video, I'm playing the game in Protoman Mode. This is basically Protoman in "Normal mode" but with a few differences. First, Protoman can charge his buster and can slide (instead of dashing). He also has access to his Proto Coil and Jet from the start. However, he also takes double damage with twice as much knockback, and he can only shoot two normal shots at a time. On the plus side, you do have access to his shield, but you can only use it while jumping. Regardless, due to Protoman's stats, this is slightly harder than the regular normal mode, but is still quite manageable.
As for what to expect out of this playthrough, expect the usual: a trail mix of solid and dumb gameplay that viewers have grown to, er, tolerate. Just to note, this recording was done via VCR transfered into a DVD recorder. So until I can get the money to buy a better capturing device, expect this type of video quality. However, it should be the quality of the gameplay that counts... right? Anyway, this playthrough is done in its entirety without being separated in parts. Megaman will run through this game on a later date. So until then, enjoy the video.
Brief Stage Notes:
-Splash Woman: Nothing to note, the stage was solid despite a couple of dings. Well, other than I decide to call Protoman, "Blackie," at some point in the stage.
-Concrete Man: The birds are annoying as Protoman, but were dealt with fine. I use the jet as quickly deal with the last stretch of the stage, but it's still easy that I didn't have to do what I did.
-Hornet Man: Broke the weakness route a bit to get the Hornet Chaser early as it's highly useful. Not to mention that the weapons I have at this point wreck this stage. Also, during the Hornet Man fight, the Laser Trident makes up for Protoman not having a good rapid fire attack as the tridents kill the bees in one shot.
-Galaxy Man: Nothing to note; this was a solid stage.
-Jewel Man: Messed up a jump which cost me a life, but made up for it later. The boss fight went as expected.
-Plug Man: Didn't trust myself in completing the Rush Jet run near the end, but at the cost of not dying, caution was best. Plug Man was fine, but unnecessary hits kind of dulled it a bit.
-Tornado Man: Solid stage, but Tornado Man gave an annoying pattern. I still outlasted him, though.
-Magma Man: I have trouble taking out the Changkey Dragon quickly with the Concrete Shot, which is something I don't do quite as often... it becomes an ongoing theme during these MM9 playthrough videos. Anyway, the boss went down easy.
-Wily 1: More Dragon issues amongst other stage hiccups, but the boss went down smooth enough despite receiving a few pot shots.
-Wily 2: Underwater section with spikes... had to tread cautiously. The rest of the stage was decent, and the boss fight went as well as can be hoped for since this boss is usually a run killer. As for one particular Rush Jet use, I know I can jump over the spikes, but decided to play it safe.
-Wily 3: Horrible dancing to good music. Overall a good stage despite being slow paced. I decided to hold off using the entire weakness weapon on the boss to conserve for the next stage. Interesting results were to be had because of that choice.
-Wily 4: Your usual boss re-fights. All fights went as expected, but tanked a life on Wily due to being dumb as usual early on. The rest was history afterwards. Just to note: I only use an M-Tank if I have no Energy Tanks left. Thought I say that if you're wondering why I didn't use it earlier. - Игры
I like the way the capture looks through vhs. Definitely looks very 80s with the 8 bit graphics
The fact that they took the megabuster away from megaman in 9 & 10 makes me want to punch Capcom in the teeth.
STM Yeah and the slide :/
Those techniques were re-added in Mega Man 11.
Destroyer of Destruction And that game is hard as fuck. Harder than 9
@@weedandwater mm11 on normal isn't vert hard, especially if you buy parts
@@weedandwater megaman 9 was not hard, I passed it without having to use the enemies weapons or sub-tanks. With protoman was kinda harder due to the slow shots and double damage, but still was kinda easy.
Protoman is fun to play as. Despite his durability, he can block attacks and he has the charge shot unlike Megaman in this game and in Megaman 10.
He takes twice the damage, but he's so much more enjoyable to play as. 2 was always my favourite from way back then. But I'm kind of over it. But These days? I vote 9 when playing as Protoman of all the main line entries.
It's despicable that they have Protoman take double damage and knockback. He's my favorite but I just can't play as him.
It goes with the lore, and why he was given the shield to begin with.
what's even worse is that you don't have a shop system, so if you want e-tanks for the trip to wily you gotta keep replaying plug man.
I mean.. gotta have a drawback with the shield right?
It's more challenging to play as Protoman but it's also more fun
Just beat this mode yesterday for the first time, oh boy it was so freaking hard
Protoman is a freaking ninja
Proto man can air surf on his shield? Nigga what?!?!?!?!?
Protoman can really get frustrating. If you don't have at least 1 E tank for the final wily boss, you're screwed!
Dat picture quality.
IKR
You can't enter to the store?!
Dam why capcom nerf proto man so much.... :'(
Protoman is kinda like a hard mode, but he is really strong nonetheless, for example the hardest boss, Plug man gets much easier with the shield, the devil thing also dies really easy and sliding makes it even more easy.
wily blows up and is like AAARGH RUN AWAY!
Impressive.
OMG the M tank refills your health too?? DAMNIT I thought it was only your subweapons and used it during the boss rush room :(
W tanks refill one weapon
M tanks fill them all, and your life included.
@@davidthecommenter W tanks Refill All weapons
@@TheGreatMii in certain games, they do. not all of em tho.
Isn't Hornet man weak to Magma man's weapon?
Yes he is, but the way I went about playing the game, I wanted to get Hornet Chaser as soon as possible to make the mode a bit more comfortable for me. This was at a time where I wasn't used to Proto mode and some of its subtleties (like having two normal shots for the standard Proto Buster which was why I went with Laser Trident; mostly for the little hornets).
LordVucious Oh that makes sense. I just normally like going with weaknesses.
good
Im playing or well, I played it on my legacy collection. Some body knows how to unlock this Mode?
You either beat the game or input the cheat code www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-08-09-mega-man-legacy-collection-2-has-an-old-school-cheat-code-that-lets-you-unlock-everything-from-the-start#:~:text=Here's%20the%20cheat%20code%3A,Phew!
How do u use his shield?
You can only use Proto's shield when you jump.
Niceeee men
Basically megaman has the p-shooter again
2:21
Splash Woman: you're covered in ink! You may ink me. prepare to drown!
How do u play as Protoman???!!!!
clear the game as MEgaman first
ProtoMan really sucks in this game it's borderline unplayable sometimes.
fucking double damage mah boi
they should have made him take 1.5 times the damage, not double, thats just fucking bullshit, cause otherwise he would have been super fun to play
Everyone Is Nerfed In 9 And 10
Rock: Lost the Slide And Charge
Blues: X2 Damage And Knock-Back
Bass: His Double Jump Is Gone
This And MM10 Were really Not A good time for Them
@@TheGreatMii you used the japanese names for everyone execpt Bass. It's Forte in japan
How did you Unlock "Normal Mode"?!
+Sam Shuper The only "normal" mode is Megaman's default game. Everything else was DLC, if I'm not mistaken.
+LordVucious Well, How can I Unlock it?
+LordVucious and how did you unlock proto man mode?
As I said already, every other mode that isn't Mega Man's mode or the time attack stages (aside from the special stage) is DLC. And I mean EVERY other mode.
@@samshuper6015 legacy collection 2 lets you enter a cheat code to unlock everything from the start, or you can just beat the game once as mega man.
bad final
