A roundup of some of the newest and most interesting new road bikes from the first day of Sea Otter Classic 2024, held in a very sunny Monterey, California. There’s a definite trend for road bikes with 40mm tyre clearance but a move away from the endurance category tag to all-road by some brands but regardless of the label these look like really interesting bikes. There’s also some beautifully classic from Ritchey and Moots so it’s not a complete carbon fibre whitewash!

Thank you, David, for being one of the cool kids with a camera at Sea Otter. I always appreciate seeing and hearing about what's what. And thanks, too, for giving the fabricators time to talk about their creations.
My pleasure!
The Bridge Bike Works Surveyor looked great. A 40mm clearance all-road bike does sound like a super versatile option.
The Ritchey Montebello is a cool offering. It’s great to see the Rando world even mentioned, let alone get a bike targeted for them.
The Ritchey Montebello was the first bike to seriously get my attention. In fact, I slightly rewound the video to make sure I could give this segment my entire attention.
The FiftyOne guy speaking sense; most riders are riding the wrong geometry......'cos the pros do.
Ethos from Fiftyone is bang on the money. Really dig those ideas and fully agree.
The Ritchey is the stand out bicycle of this film. Stunning and wonderfully practical and long lasting. 👍👍
The Ritchey is by far the coolest bike in this line up.
the Ritchey with all the chrome looks sick
All Road seems to be the new buzz word in cycling.
It’s funny. Most things in industries are cyclical. Before Gravel there was All Road and now here we are again.
All these new 'Allroad' bikes with tall stacks! What a new development! My 13 year old steel Salsa Vaya stirs in the garage staring at these shiny johnnycomelately bikes blearily.
Though that new Ritchey looks great!
40 is the new 32 :)
New Ritchey looks sick. Love it
Love the Blackheart! Great graphics and modern looks and aluminium.
I am a metal fan at heart!
Dang Dave you’re getting these videos up in record time! Thanks for all the hard work! Love that new Ritchey, hope you can test one out in the near future
Some absolutely stunning bikes there. I feel like we have peaked.....especially the fifty one with geometry for mere mortals. Some of these bikes are all youd ever need for the rest of your life.
That Fifty One Sika is hot!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Awww 38 handlebars are still too wide for me though ☹️
With all the race bike offerings these days, I would love to have the Montebello!
Loving the new Parlee 🚴♂️👍♥️
Sweet Moots and great overview at SOC. David, please review their RCS road bike, more racy than the Vamoots 33.
5:18 "The bikes that the top guys are racing are probably not racy enough." I'm glad someone in the industry finally said it. Bring back long/low race geometries like Trek's H1 fit...modify it slightly for today's slammed-forward saddle positions (even longer reach, longer front-center.)
You forgot the second part regarding the ordinary rider.
@@WerdnaLiten There are plenty of bikes made for ordinary riders.
The Ritchey montebello with 40s would be a dream. Make it a breakaway and I’ll have to start saving .
That Parlee looks amazing. I've been riding an Altum Disc since 2017 and it's the most comfortable bike I've ever owned so this new one sounds even more so.
Hi there David, my man.
Loved the transition to your sponsor Cams and the music with it..stands out nicely done matè.
This is something I like to do in the neer future.
Thanks buddy 🎉
Thanks!
You posted this video so quickly. Thank you. Seems the 140-mile ride wasn't enough to slow you down. Integrated bar/stem seems to take over the show. Looks great in events, but a hassle in your garage. Whether you like their design direction or not, Ritchey doesn't waver. I'm not interested in their offerings, but I do respect them for being true to themselves.
One upside of jet lag not letting me sleep I guess!
I just bought their comp switch stem system for my new bike, look of integrated cockpit without the downside.
6:55 I absolutely love this bike.
Love the fifty one, bridge works, and blackheart Aluminium. Although I’d like to see blackheart build in the ability to run a 2x.
It does have the ability of running 2x.
@@Gary_is_ainm_dom I know it can run 2x but it doesn’t look like it has the fittings in the frame to bolt a front mech directly onto the frame. You’d have to use a band on mech which is just an afterthought.
Absolutely love that Ouray. Next bike goals 👍
Those first three new all-road bikes, the Parlee, FiftyOne and Bridge, are magnificent. …far more interesting than any of the ’new' gravel bikes in the next video. It seems the all-road category is finally maturing and acknowledging the undeniable influence of ‘gravel’ on road bike development. Cheers
I want the Bridge
Amazing you really inspire my channel
Bridgeworks and Mike! 🔥
Apologies but we couldn't hear your side of the conversation with Fergus from Ritchey. Could you tell us what you said? Also thanks for showing the Ritchey it's the only frame I was interested in. May I use your footage on the Montebello for one of my videos?
He told Fergus that the Montebello is the only bike at the show that he's seen with fenders.
Not heard of Parlee but spokesperson seemed really passionate about the product and features seem to make a lot of sense, I was thinking pretty cool, until it went on to the next bike which looked exactly the same. The design looks quite similar to the Forge from Pearson, with the top tube that tilts up to the steerer tube.
Blackheart power coated style aluminium looks sweet.
Pullled that ritchey out of his elderly neighbours garden shed and walked into the sea otter show. Chancer.
Imagine it's the year 2024 and bike manufacturers still aren't producing plus versions of their race frames that have a slightly shorter reach and slightly higher stack whilst being slightly heavier and perhaps slightly more affordable.
A large portion of riders who can afford the ever increasing cost of bikes simply can't accommodate race geo on a regular basis or for prolonged periods without spacers or shorter stems. At the same time, they don't want a headtube the size of a door and an ungainly looking frame on a bike at the prices we're at.
The result of not having this is people getting the bike they want but can't ride properly, people getting the bike they want but only being able to ride properly with spacers and short stem so they don't like it, and then people getting the bike they don't really want or desire but they can ride it properly and pain free and yet still wish it looked better.
Is thay isabel king at the velotoze booth during the brifge bikes segment? Lol
Shouldn't the Ritchey Montebello really be 650b, if it's a Randonneur bike?
The parlee and sika❤️
So the new Blackburn Alloy bike is for the person who has their finger on the pulse of style, city or surroundings and not actually for cyclists. It is also entry level but has Sram Red AXS and Hunt Limitless wheels. Fantastic value then lol
2k for aluminum frameset is insane. I got my entire caad12 for $1600 with 105 groupset. Im sure that frame is much heavier. And certainly the release will be delayed.
And extra to paint the fork 😂
blackheart.. oh yeah!
Have you ever heard of Serota cycles?
I know they were around in the 80s.
22:14 4 year event damn 💀
It occurs Every four years
Holy crap that Parlee is obscenely expensive.
With the fifty one i don't get the dated seat stays and round seat post on a claimed aero bike. Why sacrifice comfort and speed for no return?
Because many of the non standard seat posts wind up slipping or moving and create problems, or are hard to adjust because there is not consistent pressure to hold it in place…
@@tomfitz3324 an elementary School student could design one that works. Besides that they figured it out, if you didn't get the memo.
@@timtaylor9590 Because it's easy to get a replacement seat post if you wish and there is plenty of comfort from so much exposed seat post, I doubt you could feel or even measure any gains that dropping the seat stays anymore or changing the shape of the post would get you.
My ears pricked up when i heard the parlee rep say it has udh... i dont know of any other roadbike with that.
I'll take that FiftyOne.
Get a bridge bike he said they're building the best bikes in the world because they have experts, as if to say no one else does and carbon is some kind of rare or new tech.
The FIFTY ONE has the rear tire on backwards…rookies
Any new sign of the CAAD 14 ? 😢
The blackheart 🤌🏼🖤
If I could truly have a 1 bike drop bar bike I would love to see a mix of the Revolt, TCR and TCX. Right now I think my Revolt is a good mix of TCR and Revolt. Just wish the BB on the Revolt was about 7mm higher. To split the difference of the TCX, Revolt. To me that would be the perfect 1 bike. Able to run 30's to 2.1 MTB tires. Thanks for the video David.
Somebody gotta step in here and talk about dented aluminum being risky. Steel? Ok. But aluminum?
First 4 bikes look the exact same
Don't you just look Ritchey. Bikes for real cyclists. Long may they keep going. Yes I have a Ritchey.
so they are pushing endurance bikes lol
I like the Blackheart bikes but I worry that the 427mm chainstays on the gravel AL won't give enough clearance between the seat tube and the wheel on muddy terrain. I like an aggressive geometry but this is cutting it close maybe? Also, I about vomited when Cody said "designed for the person who has their finger on the pulse of style". Just sounds like he's saying, "we're a bike brand for posers!"
As soon as he said that, I cringed and promptly lost interest.
Maybe a little grace here. Blackheart is a newer, small brand and he's still working out the pitch. Cody, Blackheart and Luft are all doing great stuff in the LA cycling scene.
@@pmcqueen Yeah, I'm still considering it. I live in L.A. and I like the idea of riding a local brand. I'm also looking at the Beach Club Al Dente (another local brand) and the Mason Bokeh. I've owned a Mason Definition for 7 years and love it so I'm kinda leaning on buying another bike from Dom, but I have a wondering eye. I don't worry too much about bike color but it is fun that you can pick your own on the Blackheart. Crushed Orchid please!
There's no reason an all road bike isn't aero. Why brag about light weight when a bike can be both. In this day and age Saying a bike is only light or only aero means it's a poorly designed or cheap bike.
Imagine being the guy from FiftyOne and realizing your rear tire is mounted backwards at a huge industry event
These reps sound like they’d rather be doing ANYTHING else
He said the bridge is a 9/¹⁰ aero? 😂 The sl8 isn't Even a 8 out of 10. Man these guys are something else. It's easy to see how they can fool the average Joe consumer.
Another cookie cutter bike.
Is John Harrison English? He could barely speak English.
