Riggs Eddie artwork is iconic, huge Maiden fan for 40 years and have a full sleeve tattooed with Riggs work from the debut album right up to Somewhere In Time.
@@billriddle9215 That sounds great... if you like the artists from the heavy metal magazine, you might like the new video on the channel that is related to one of the artists that appeared several times in that magazine.
Well actually the story of Eddie was a bit more complex. It started as a mask worn by one of their early drummers, Thundersticks. He was quite an act (went on to play for Samson) and the mask became sort of a trademark. When he left Maiden he let them keep the mask, so Maiden would hang it over the drummer. Soon it became a tool where ever it was able to be used, they would have a stagehand flash lights from behind the eyes and use a smoke machine (or fire extinguisher) to throw smoke out of the mouth of the mask. People began calling the mask Eddie the Head based on a joke that was popular at the time and it went like this: A couple were having a baby. When it was born the doctor goes to the father who was waiting anxiously. “Congratulations sir you have a beautiful baby boy. There is only one problem, he doesn’t have arms, or legs, or a pelvis, or even a body.” The faster roiled “What?! And he’s just a head?”, “yes!” Answered the doc with glee “but you needn’t worry. Just come back in 16 years, we should have a body for him. Time passed and the two parents who were very close and loving of their boy Eddie were waiting. And one day on Eddie’s 16th birthday the parents got the news that there was a body for him and they ought to bring Eddie right in for the procedure to commence. So there was Eddie, resting on his shelf in his room bored out of his mind having nothing to do when his room’s door opened and in come the parents most happily singing “Happy Birthday”. After their singing the father looks at the head who was his son, and with a smile said “My boy, it’s your sixteenth birthday today, and boy do we have a great present for you to which Eddie replied “No, not another hat! The mask was changed a little over time but when Riggs was used to paint his he had a form inspired by a picture of a corse in the mud. The rest is history.
Eddie is more recognized than some members of the band . Eddie and Kiss painted are 2 of the most recognizable things in the world even if your not a metal person
Riggs is amongst my biggest influences in art to date. Escher, Dali, Eglington and Frazetta are up there with Riggs too
Dali and Riggs.Bob Ross too

Derek Riggs is the biggest influence of my life, and his artworks were the source of my inspirations.
His digital is awesome! But his traditional works are one of a kind amazing!
Indeed
Somewhere in time cover is really amazing. It's hard to imagine how much much effort patience and focus he needed to create this
It certainly is an amazing work by Derek Riggs

The idea was that. The band didn't want to be on the cover, therefore they placed Eddie there to represent the band.
