Fun fact, you probably have stuff in your house you can use to get the same result or better. You don't need this elaborate trademarked plastic box and beads. Here's what you do: Take an empty plastic bottle. Wash it. Take the tags off to make it clear. Now you make a star pattern hole on both sides of the bottle. Press the edges inwards. This way it's easy to get inside, but not outside. Make sure they're not too big or too small. Aim for fly size. Now get yourself a little funnel, or a makeshift funnel with some rolled sheet. I want you to crack an egg and mix it like with an omelette. Add some water and a bit of dish soap, odorless or fruit scented works best. Funnel it all into the bottle and give it a swirl. Get yourself some string, and then hang it up where you want to get rid of flies. When the egg rots, it will stink something awful, but that's going to be irresistible to the flies. If you have some on hand, add insecticide to the mixture to ensure they die faster.
I have a thing called fly kill of the week, and that's what I was searching for but this came up. It's kinda a sport in my house, and last week I caught a fly in mid air with my hand, pulled a wing off, turned on the garbage disposal, and put that fly down the disposal in the kitchen sink. That was fly kill of the week last week.
My front porch is shaded. We have no dog and we don’t have garbage on the porch so all I know is the flys stay on our front porch because it’s way cooler on the porch compared to anywhere else around our home. But we can’t enjoy or porch because we’ll be carried away by all those flys. Tried setting outside to drink my morning coffee and within 5 minutes I have 5 flys floating in my coffee. I hung one of those glue strips earlier but I doubt that’ll help
@@hahah2804 I might have found something that worked!! If you have a Home Depot or Lowe’s there are these RAID FLY trap bags. Idk if you’ve tried that one yet but a friend had one we’re out in Texas in the country…the bags seriously helped!! I’m about to put it on my porch and see but they’re like $6 I’d give it a try if you haven’t yet
We just recently got four kittens for our five adopted grandchildren. My husband seems to think that the cat food on the carport is attracting the flies but that’s not the case I just put some cat food out for them and the flies are nowhere near the cat food they are all over the carport all over the sidewalk, so he bought fly strips which helps some few but the other thousand are still crawling around on the carport. So I’m like you I think it’s the coolness of the carport sidewalk now hopefully when the sun starts shining again and it gets hot no more flies. We’ll see.
Those are drain flies. The only way to get rid of those is sanitation. Look for sitting water around the area and check if there are things wriggling in dark wet places (Use a flashlight to see the reflection helps you see the movement in the waters surface as they squirm around), then dump a lot of salt over all those areas of activity. Let it sit for 24h to make sure they die (12h usually enough but 24h would be best). Even into the drainage systems they are closest too (or a mlild/medium strength acid based drain cleaner. Which is much better imo). Salt dries out their larva. which is lethal to them, killing them before they reach their adult stage... Overall make sure there isn't any sitting water they can lay eggs in. The adult drain flies will die off within that 12 to 24h period.. Problem solved.. Unless they escape to another part of the building/outside.
Get rid of what attracts the flies. In your case, your Wife is likely correct in that it's not the dog, it's the dog poop. Feces, standing water and combinations of standing water and dry elements with the standing water make for excellent breeding grounds. As a Licensed Pest Control Operator, I actually specialized in industrial scale fly control. What is industrial scale fly control? Barns, barns and more barns.
For some reason I have flies in my home. Now. I noticed them right after my cat had kittens I thought because all the cats are pooping in the kitty litter it was because of that but I mostly see them in a certain part of the house now I have set up fly traps but what could cause this I got rid of my cats minus one kitten but even before my cat had kittens. And I had One cat I didn’t see flies.
Pt alpine fly bait. I personally use it on the seams of my trash can lid where not a lot of people touch but where flies will congregate sense they breed in trash. In kitchens either cover food handling surface before applying to corners of your ceiling or spray a piece of cardboard and stick it in the corners. This bait is pressurized so I recommend wearing a mask at least I personally use a respirator but I work with stuff all day everyday you probably don't but do use some protection and it does have a sent but it dissipates. I also do a perimeter band of alpine wsg a non repellent neonicitinoid and tekko pro a growth regulator. All that and the bait stations he recommended. Ipm baby use all the tools and methods you can at your disposal for maximum effectiveness. And I personally think that's a solid ipm program for flies besides basic cleaning and hygiene that also goes hand in hand with fly infestations. Gotta love my job with what I know I hardly ever even see a fly let alone anything else much worse.
