    If anyone else is in this boat, check your drip rails! The seam sealer up there goes bad and lets water drip down inside both the front and rear pillars. I’m convinced that’s the reason the cab corners and outer floor pans rot out

      @karnesmotorsports  10 месяцев назад +1

      Good call! I’ve noticed on a couple that I’ve painted that the seam sealer is all cracked out. Never gave it a thought about leaking. Makes sense! This was a farm truck at one point in its life so the cow crap probably didn’t help. All this job was for was to stop the wind blowing in. Thanks for watching!

    I love that color! My 2000 F250 was similar. It was called Light Island Blue. In some light, it looked blue, in other light it was a greenish color.

    • @karnesmotorsports
      @karnesmotorsports  3 года назад

      It is a neat color. Not to common. I had a 92 f250 that was Bimini blue and white two tone. That was my favorite paint scheme.

      Good luck! I hate body work but this was kind of a fun project. Not going for a show truck, just trying to stop the wind coming in was a nice change of pace. Thanks for watching!

      I have a huge soft spot for this old truck. I’m a huge OBS ford fan. If got an 89 regular cab short bed 2wd with the 300-6 and a 5spd sitting down back, I’m debating on what to do with it. Either lower it or swap in a 4wd front axle and t case. Haven’t decided yet. Thanks for watching!

      @@karnesmotorsports lower it. Also, drop a saginaw power steering pump in it to eliminate the dreadful whine, the lowering process would make it quite responsive, but keep it as a truck you can daily so its always being used having fun in it

    My f350 front body mounts and floor pan failed and now my door won’t close without having to lift it to close . Rubs real bad… Iv never welded in my life so any helpful advice would be great!

    • @karnesmotorsports
      @karnesmotorsports  9 месяцев назад

      It’s just metal, it can be fixed. The best part about floor pans is no one can see your welds lol! Get yourself some scraps, and start running some beads. You’ll figure it out. Make sure the metal is clean and shiny. You’ll want to weld in some temporary bracing if you’re cutting the cab mounts out. The good part is they make new ones. Best advice I can give is don’t be afraid to try it yourself, and have fun! This was actually a fun job to do, for some reason I enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!

    I assume you were mig/flux core welding. If so what setting did you have your machine set to? I’m doing almost the same job over thanksgiving

    • @karnesmotorsports
      @karnesmotorsports  Год назад

      I was using a Hobart Handler 190 mig welder with .023” solid wire and 75/25 argon. I set it at #2 wire speed around 60. It’s not a bad job to do, was actually kind of fun. Thanks for watching!

    Hello where do you buy the material to do that patch panel and I have rust on the door as well can I just sand that part down

    • @karnesmotorsports
      @karnesmotorsports  5 месяцев назад

      I got the floor pan from rock auto. The sheet metal I used along the inner rocker buy the seat I cut out of an old ford truck hood. You can get the sheet metal anywhere 18ga would work just fine. You can try to sand the rust down. Get it down to bare metal, see how many holes are in it, replace material as necessary. Thanks for watching!

    Did you cut the rust out underneath it?

    • @karnesmotorsports
      @karnesmotorsports  2 года назад +1

      Cut out everything that was rotted though. Inside of the rocker, back of the cab mount. This was not a restoration quality project. This was a patch the hole in the floor to keep stuff from falling out type job.

    • @karnesmotorsports

      I would imagine it’s very similar. Cut out what’s bad, and weld some new metal in.
