It's actually pretty common for people who know stuff about social media. Back then when I was still in college I have a friend that is a photographer and he had his pictures ready to be published on Instagram for a specific time like lunchbreak or around 6-7 PM when people got back home or having dinner.

Thor is a humble man and doesn't give himself as much credit as he deserve. the help he gives, the knowledge he shares, the spine to stand up for what you believe in and to call things out as B.S it's not easy in this day in age. this man blew up cause he's not B.S and his message is sound and rooted in truths. I've spent half a century on this rock and a saying comes to mind, I've met a lot of great man in life but very few good ones.Thor is a good man and wish him nothing but the best in life!
Love seeing creators crack the algorithm! 🎉 It’s amazing how Shorts can amplify your reach-proof that a little creativity and consistency can make massive waves. Thanks for breaking it down!
That only works because they're backed by Casinos who can take the upfront cost loss. The more streamers they get, the more money they lose when not running ads. Eventually they'll hit a point where it isn't worth it to keep running, or at least running while not implementing ads. And if they hit that point, they'll have to do a major overhaul in what they allow people to get away with.
Yeah if you like supporting the immoral gambling companies that are perfectly ok with children watching their content and being exposed to dangerous addictive practices; really has some "potential" just not necessarily good. It's done a great job platforming republican extremists, r*pe apologists and SA defenders, and just blatant racism in chat culture. But yes, Kick has the potential to be huge......among people who lack any sort of a moral compass you are correct. Enjoy that degenerate content, I'd steer clear from it though as an business decision; wouldn't want to have any association with Kick whatsoever.
In case anyone is curious with his 2 minutes of ads every 30 minutes that's ~7% of the 30 minutes (same % if you go up to an hour obviously). Compare that to normal TV in the US where ads are usually about 1/3rd % of the 30 minutes.
I found him through this. He just has that good voice and the smarts the interesting backstory, every story is cool. and he draws... oh boy do he draws good
Same, everyone who listens to Thor inevitably loves him. He is an entire basket full of intellect and humor - but most importantly - it's his compassion, and people love that.
Ahh, the ads. That's why I stopped watching TV. Whenever I turned the box on, there were ads on every channel. Every single time I randomly turned it on, it was ads. And I was like: "Welp! This is boring. Back to the game console/computer."
The largest issue in the Western world (or at least the US) is that Ads are like 1/3rd of the run time. IE a 30 minute show is actually 20-22 minutes long (normally, I'm there are some exceptions), with 8-10 minutes of ads. And the "60" minute shows feel even worse because you'll get 5+ minute ad breaks lol. every 10 minutes or so. It feels awful. Compare that to a place like say Japan, where show times for a 30 minute show (this could have changed since last I looked at it) tend to be 24-27 minutes long, so only 3-6 minutes of ads. Might not seem like a lot at first, until you realize that no matter the scenario, JP "worst case" scenario is always better. 6 minutes of ads compared to the US 8-10. 24 minute show run time, compared to the US 20-22.
Without an adblocker while using Twitch, I don't jump around channels because Twitch doesn't have a cooldown on running ads. I'll be watching someone and want to see what someone else is doing and get ads. Then I'll be there for like 5 mins and jump to another and get more ads.
That's all nice and important, but he forgot to mention that the messages/content he spreads through his shorts are what make you hit the sub button and come back for more. Genuinely interesting
With regards to having to go through a bunch of commercials before seeing a new channel and clicking off because of the commercials, I am one of those people.
The basic plan is good, but I still think it simply undersells that it's because he's a badass genuine creator. Anybody here can upload a short every day, at noon PST or whatever time works for their contents audience, and the reality is 99.99% of us won't make content as engaging and as high quality as he does. That's all it is. So... Naturally gifted and throw in some luck. And it probably accounts for more than anything. He could probably upload at midnight. And do once a week. And still succeed.
You're right, but also wrong, he was streaming for years before he became a decent enough streamer to start gaining viewers, it was years and years of consistent streaming that eventually led to the improvement of where he is today. He wasn't naturally gifted at all, it was years of hard work and practice to get to this point.
I was targeted. And well... I was hit not by the quantity of his videos but the content. We live in times where people treat people like sh** for money, and now somebody who is just respecting everybody and looks for win-win solution is just appealing.
I’ve always paused my stream during ad breaks too with a little animated ad break screen 😂 seemed mean to just keep going while people couldn’t hear what was happening
It wasn't natural talent, he spent years streaming to basically no viewers and learning and getting better at speaking, he did get lucky with his second puberty that caused his voice to be as it is now though
The other guys just going like this is mindblowing. This is just basic marketing stuff: what platform works well, where is your target audience and when are they there, what content do they love. Do more of that = success.
He just so happened to be either a witness to or heavily involved with almost every major event in Blizzard's history, somehow. Nothing weird about all the stories.
I was using shorts to grow my channel. Actually using advice I saw on Thor's shorts. the only issue is that it killed my long form vids, which is what my primary content is. So I had to get rid of all the shorts.

Thor's success didn't just come from the planning, you need to be able to make the content for those shorts as well. Phenomenal person to the game dev industry
Yeah I can imagine many people after watching this video, thinking they just stumbled upon the magic recipe that'll make them famous and rich. The truth is Thor makes good content, and no strategy, schedule or planning will get you there if you lack the talent and skills.
8 ads in a pre-roll?! I've never seen that personally, is that a thing? Any time I join a stream with pre-rolls, I'll get maybe 3 minutes of pre-rolls and then not an ad after, but usually the pre-roll is like 30 seconds.
for real, Thor is the king of based things, his intelligence is beyond average humans for sure, he really know what he do, what he want to do and know so many different things
