Great video Shane, just watched this again now since 3yrs ago, stuck in hospital for nearly a year during Covid, I watched it so many times and just so liked the car, now I have 16, blame you for that!
Nice to see someone taking care of their Capri. Thar cad will be worth '$5,000 in 10 years.. i hope you still got the original cassette tape radio lol. Im so sick of people bagging this cad
Thanks. The car came with the cassette player with the 'joy stick', but as per expected it started chewing tapes and then just stopped ejecting them. So that had to go. The rest is stock and I still have the OEM wheels.
Hi Shane. Good Video. I just bought a 92 model sc XR2 Turbo. With 69.000k on odometer. With maintenance records. My B.F. found it Covered in a Barn in Sth.Aust. ( a Lot of dust & fair few Spiders too..!!) I paid $1500 for the old girl, spent about the same on Tyres , Brakes, and Engine. And she fly's. I still have jobs I wanna do. Eg. Roof. But If I blow the Old girl up tomorrow I haven't got too much in it..! It had a New Timing belt, Battery, Plugs leads and Rad. fitted before it was left to gather dust..! Its CV joints boots were Stuffed one side. And the Lady I bought it from was feed up spending $$ on it...!! A/C needs fixing too..! But this thing Flys. I love it...!! Kim in S A. 😎
@@shaneevc8879 Thx Shane I do enjoy driving it..! Just gotta fix up a Few Cosmetic issues. But she peforms well. I had One before Non Turbo and I was gutted to let that go..! This one is Never leaving my Grip..! 😎😎
Hey Shane, dont know if youre still active or not but I've just seen a Capri on marketplace for $5,000. Managed to haggle down to about $1500, now I've only just started to learn about these cars after driving my uncles capri but the seller said that the only main issue is that the accelerator pump needs to be replaced. The car apparently runs and starts but I'm just wondering if you'd personally buy a $1500 as a first project car to work on. Planning on having a look at it in the next couple of days and any information you've got on their common issues / things I should know before purchasing one, I'd love to hear them. Thanks :)
I certainly would; they are a fun car and not complex. I think you mean fuel pump, rather than accelerator pump but they're about $140AUD so not expensive and easy to replace. The only drama is that some body bits are becoming hard to find. Enjoy.
@@shaneinoz1019 Thanks for the reply, yeah I’ve heard some parts are a bit of a pain to locate, luckily my uncle actually owns one running one and a donor parts car so I shouldn’t have too many issues. Hopefully going to have a look at it sometime next week. Can’t wait to own one of these 🙂
Hi Jay, Picked them up on marketplace/ebay. 17"x 7. They required a 5mm spacer for the rears. Handles like a dream though. Had a similar brand and size on my green one 'Enix" brand. Then I fitted white "Rim Skin" strips around them to protect them.
Sorry Papa, I thought I replied. This was bought from the Convertible Top Guys in USA. It came all pre-sewn as a pattern and ready to install but not a novice job. Contact them at support@mtmfg.com. The Haartz Stayfast Canvas top was considerably more expensive than the base vinyl, but well worth it.
I believe I mentioned that I got mine in Port Macquarie too. I love these little things. Just had A/C done and now the car is near perfect. Was lucky enough to get a new compressor of ebay for that fix; rare as item. Thanks for the comment mate. All the best on the sale of your cars. What are they and $$?
I just bought these through marketplace or ebay second hand a while ago. They are 'Enix" brand but you will need a 5mm spacer to fit the rear rims. I had the same brand on a previous Capri and needed the spacer. all about the offset. The bolt pattern is pretty standard. Sorry I can't be more help.
@@shaneinoz1019 no worries, any info on this is helpful. I was pretty sure I'd need spacers so I'm glad you were able to confirm that for me. I've also thought about getting a piece that will convert the bolt pattern to something that is more widely used. I feel like that would open up a world of options as well...
There is so much variation in price to condition it is hard to pin down accurately. There are not many turbos around 'in good condition' the price will vary. Unfortunately the turbo cars were generally driven by 'boy racers' and suffer in the turbo reliability side. The Clubspint variants are really creeping up and are around $10k AUD. The earlier, non-clubsprint turbo in reasonable condition, maybe $6K - $7K. What brings the price down is a bad soft top. Sorry couldn't give you a straight figure but thanks for asking.
Have owned two these. Both base model Barchetta's. One was an 1992 SC & then an SE 1993.The SE was a far, far better car. Both non-turbos, both manuals. With a hardtop. Good cars, until we then bought an MX5....
I didn’t go back for a second one sir. I inherited both when my uncle died. One got donated and the other I sold to the junkyard for $100 after wasting money on them. Got tired of putting money into cars with no resale value. Don’t assume buddy…I’m sure you know what they say about assuming 😙👍🏻
Well done. Post a picture or a link to a picture. You will enjoy every moment but I assume at $600 you might need to play around with it, but that's the fun, hey?
Well most of them sell for around 1k the reason we got this one was it was at auction and it looked terrible and didn’t run, it was left in bushes for years and we took a gamble. Turns out all it needed was a fuel pump, we got lucky. I believe a lot of people didn’t really know anything about it or appreciate it much, which when I saw it I had no idea what it was myself. I researched and was like yep I want it, didn’t even know it was the xr2 because the badges and spoiler wasn’t on the car. While researching it I noticed it had a hole on the trunk and relized it used to have a spoiler. We got it and found out it was an xr2 and the spoiler was inside the car. It needs a top and to be cleaned up which haven’t gotten my hands on it yet so haven’t been able to wash it. I get the feeling once washed it will be pretty decent shape. The top is a mess but it doesn’t leak as far as we know it just looks horrible

A much underrated car in my humble opinion

I’ve got the falcon xr8 and fiesta xr4 this one is next on my list definitely the coolest capri I’ve ever seen
Thanks for that. Yep, they a fun little car and nothing beats the feel when the roof is down on a nice day.

Once you get the car right they tend to be quite bullet proof and heaps of fun. Good onya for keeping it going.

Exelent video, definitely got me sold on buying one now
Thanks. Yep, love these little cars. So much fun and the wife loves driving them too.
Very cool, seeing the Mustang's cousin. The front looks like what the Probe looked like or visa-versa. Great video!
Thanks Jen, my wife loves driving it. Bring on the sunny weather though.
I wish we were able to obtain many of your vehicles here. I know I'd love to drive an OKA. Much love from the US.
Nice work with the gimbal Shano

Hi Shane, Where did you get the rims for your white capri? They look stellar!

I live in Port Macquarie & have 2 Capri's for sale. There's not many left now.

I Love mine!!!
I believe they are very much under-rated for fun and reliability.
Where could I buy these rims? I've been stressing out about finding the right rims that will fit my base 91' capri.

How much can one expect to pay for a turbo model in good condition ?

I paid 600 bucks for a running xr2 in the states and it’s in decent shape other then the top sucks

I hear ya mate. Great little cars and underrated. The MX5 is good too with the BIG plus being rear wheel drive. All the best.

The 609 was including mechanic work the car itself was actually bought for 85 bucks at auction lmao
There pretty rare in the states but nobody cares about them so there pretty cheap. Most expansive I’ve seen is a mint one for 2500

I had 2 of these….they are turds, I hated mine.
