  • When we think of Guatemala, we think of Latinos.
    But black Guatemalans? What?
The Garifuna people are of African descent, who had come on the shoes of Guatemala in 1802 from Honduras. They were originally brought over from Africa hundreds of years ago to the Caribbean islands as slaves. But they had chosen Livingston, Guatemala, as their land when they left Honduras. This detail shows my meeting with a local, who I had just met on my walk around Livingston, who gave me a brief historical encounter of the Garifuna people as well as a tour of the local neighborhoods
