@@joestitz239 well I’m not sure as my friend wrote it but what I will say we are all fans of the original trilogy so it’s hard not to be influenced with what you know. Thanks for watching.
i accept many comments below, however I was kept interested by wanting to know how the STORY would pan out. Not many movies can keep me watching that long. Well done chaps and chapettes.
Very good movie, except that it was very hard for me to understand what was going on in parts of it, when all the commotion was going on. I take it some of the people who had been on those ships, became cannibals after being on them for twenty years.
i'm not only impressed - but i enjoyed it - the story started out with some originality - but it changed into something conventional - that wasn't a problem - it was still compelling enuf for me i felt like a high-budget scifi film to me Vin Hawke also fooled me - i went to IMDb to find out if he really was american even tho i know how good british actors are at assuming american accents now - turns out - he's a brit
Well I thought it was excellent and the shaky cam worked really well in this case, building up the tension and feeling of 'movement'. The sets were great, they'd put a ton of time into them. And another thing that impressed me was how naturalistic the dialogue sounded, I've seen many independent films where it sounds like they're reading from cue cards. Kudos to the actors! Chris.
This was so damn enjoyable, I couldn't buy a decent motorcycle for what they produced this movie on. About $8,000.00 dollars U.S. I believe. Nice work.
Would love to see a 2nd carry on movie. Definitely not a series though... Sci - Fi. Lover. 1000 points for all involved in this making and especially the writing of story line. A real WOW
$7,500 for the budget on this film???? Heck, you can't even buy a decent car for that!! But yet you guys made this film with that little bit of money. You would never convince me of that in other circumstances. I am just astounded how good it was. Some of the zombie scenes were a bit lame but other than that it was awesome!!! Like others have commented...... It is ready for a sequel. The ending proves it.
I read the negative comments with a grain of salt, I found it very entertaining, drama, comedy and zombies? I've seen worse on paid TV, it was fun! thank you!
"Crystals that made faster than light speeds possible." and, "suddenly, they failed." Well... this is what happens when you use technology you don't understand! It's like a caveman found an automobile, found out how to use it and started exploring a big desert but it ran out of gas or a solar storm damaged its electronics. Does he know where the problem is? Of course NO. Anyways, the people who made this move are brilliant because they did a production with almost Hollywood quality but with just a fraction of their cost so stop whining because it's FREE 😎😎😎
Great work, nice use of military surplus, reversible softies, strapping and coveralls etc... The banter reminded me of Dog Soldiers. Brits in space, love it.
The lighting was terrible and I could barely understand what they were saying. Why can't the English learn to speak English? I'm from USA where we speak understandable English. I had to stop watching it. Among the worst acting I have ever seen. Sorry Brits.
I've been adrift and somehow found this communication that was fully intact. There were many messages that were very clear throughout this communication feed. Love, sacrifice, playfulness, danger, and a wee bit of humor. Never leave anyone behind...that was profound and professional. Ok, so I'm a few years late, but WOW this was a super fun movie! Im tired of the overpaid actors and the lack of writing skills needed to produce a good movie or the so-called block buster that usually ends up with the same ol same ol garbage that everyone knows how it ends. DEFINITELY NOT with this Priceless Gem! At first I was like a young kid on a salvage team in space? So it kept my interest. From there it was like peeling each layer back, the a twist or two, then I was shocked by the outcome. This absolutely needs a sequel one day to find out the perfect setup from the ending here. Rock Paper Scissors.....❤ Geek 😢 😭 ❤ That boy absolutely had his A game on and I was rooting him on! Hats off to Everyone involved! You should be proud of this film. Maybe I'm being too critical, but why did Scarlett have to stay behind after she donned the spacesuit and survived the C-4 blast? Also, if The Ministry was after the crystal, why go back home just to get arrested? Not my story to tell, but I am a bit confused. Overall, a good movie to watch. Kind of like Doom meets Red Dwarf. :)
Opening credits were great. Kudos on the great shoestring digital work. Ship looks a bit like "Serenity" if you catch my drift. Zombies or not I give it a thumbs up.
Clearly many of the actors are not pros; still, interesting story with passable FX. Despite that I am a Yank speaking Yank English, I had a very but very difficult time understanding what the actors were saying. I would have like to see subtitles. Maybe the crew elaborated what caused the crew on the old ship, but despite listening closely, I am left with puzzled to the cause that made them psychotic?
Excellent work! What few flaws there might be, for me, didn't detract from the idea or content. We need more fan-driven & genre-lovers who enjoy the fine art of such story-telling & ability & drive to make these frsh productions. All the 'hollywoods' should be envious... Hey, it looks like this leaves an obvious opening for a sequel of some sort. Is there one, or one in the works?
Loving the nod towards Alien. Or at least that's the vibe I got. I enjoy a good Indy flick where the focus is more on story than flashy special effects. Cheers!
Hard to believe people are criticizing this film. Its the typical "if its not professionals, its no good" mindset prevailing in those who are downing this. If the credits were replaced with "professional" movie makers and production names the same people criticizing it would be heaping praises on it. There was only one non-finished CG scene I caught (flashed by), and the obvious British culture not understanding how guns really work and their danger (no way anyone who knows anything about guns would have lost the fight at the end with the armaments he had) was the only other problem I caught. This is on a par with Hollywood any day. In fact they even were politically correct (gag) enough to make a biracial element in the story and use the typical childish need to swear once in awhile (which could have been left out and the impact of the film still be great). Those who say this was bad need check their motives and get a reality check by seeing online videos where the professional films have just as many blunders in them.
+Lee Brewer Not entirely true. There were shots in the beginning where the CG was not properly color matched with the live action. Which is not that hard to accomplish. Yet, it pulls you out of the story. Color matching makes a big difference between engaging your audience, or making them wonder what is wrong with what they're looking at.
I noticed that, but given that there is Hollywood level million dollar productions that have shittier CGI.. fuck even whole movies, i would give this a pass with flying colors. Even physics of the film were thought pretty decently, given that ships and the debris would not stay still like that, specially with years of floating around. Even if caught by gravitation "well", there would have been much more movement and that would have been much faster...
Award for what...poor over dramatic acting...using distorted facial expressions for no apparent reason....hard to understand British dialogue...This is JWO Programming at it's best...Mixed race kid with no gender...TYRANNY 's throughout....men trying to be women... females posing as males...TOTAL DECEPTIVE CRAP
Are you kidding me? This movie won awards? The entire movie was buried under that horrific sountrack. Made it entirely impossible to hear any of the dialog. Scarlet is another mouth actress like JRs wife from Dallas. Please, this was a horrible movie. I want my time back please.
With some quality CGI, (which I don't doubt is far from cheap yet) this would be really awesome. As it is its still pretty damn good, its not Pandorum good where it did get a lot of inspiration from along with Event Horizon among others, but its better than many. . I've seen a lot of far worse big budget stuff from major studios. Kudos to the people who put this together.
Athough a bit far fetched, I think many productions are primarily for laundering money; some productions laundered on a grand scale. Come on, paying actors 20-30 million dollars to pretend? If that is what the market will bear, then I hope Indie efforts like this great movie take a big chunk of their revenue.
Wish I'd seen this 10 years ago. It's still competitive and relevant today. Had to laugh at the roo bar on front of the Deliverance 😂 But there was plenty of time to save Scarlett! She could have space walked out the hole, and they could have picked her up 😢
This film was a community project, with the aim of demonstrating the group's capability of producing a professional-looking feature film on an ultra-low budget. Those involved included professionals, media graduates and local volunteers, some of whom had no previous film-making experience. Everyone involved gave their time for free. Costs were funded by the members of Backyard Productions, assisted by a community grant from the Lincolnshire Co-operative.
+LegionAvalon I must emphasise that I had nothing to do with this production personally, I just reproduced the IMDB description for general information. :-)
Clues this movie will suck - #1 Nobody seems to care this movie is on youtube (no copyright claim or anything), Low IMDB score, and Award Winning....!!?? Oh please...!!! Major pass!
Sure, the animatics and CG need quite a bit of work(from time to time the salvage ship looks like it's done the same way as The Last Starfighter), but I've seen worse in theatrical releases. I noticed the costumes and the ladder in the ship looked cheap, but seriously, I am shocked this could be made for $7,500. The big screen TV inside the salvage ship alone would cost $1,000+ and the interiors look pretty good. That's not even mentioning the acting(even though I'm only 20ish minutes in). You guys are amazing.
Excellent movie (or should I say film ?) the script was excellent, the whole invisible enemy in the dark thing was a bit "too used" but then the plot took a different twist, well acted, well made, good screenplay, good editing... An excellent job for a community project, well, even if compared with major studio productions. Congratulations
The moment from 2:00 to 6:00 is a nice hommage to the Nostromo (deck, computer booting sequence, crew emerging from hypersleep). The first few notes of the music even sound like James Horner.
For being such a low budget film, this was not that bad of a movie! A little iffy here and there, a lone girl who has survived for years on her own only to die hours after she encounters the salvage crew!? She kept on mentioning the other "tribe" and we saw several of them but none of her own tribe! The other tribe seemed to be infected with some sort of disease that gave them lesions on their faces but she was un-affected! The ending was a little weak but all in all not a bad movie considering the budget!
This is more action than a sci-fi hence stopped watching. I did have a chuckle at telescopic step ladder and angle grinder but given the budget it is fine. Film is not boring, there is definitively a potential. I would be interested to see what production team could do with bigger a budget. Good attempt! Don't stop.
I liked the angle grinder, too. That's about the only thing, though. The sets & whatever people refer to as "CG" were fine but better left to a video game or something. Would have been a fine film with a plot, understandable dialog (or subtitles and them speaking Japanese) and less careless acts that would never "fly" in space...and no special effects. Hope next time they attempt this sort of thing they leave out the computer graphic stuff, get a plot, a storyline, and some dialog, and things that make sense. Quit watching before the Zombies that other reviews say are in this, thank God. Can't stand that kind of nonsense. Oh, hey Backyard Productions loves my reply! Sorry if I put in a few harsh comments, I realize now that this film was to demonstrate that a movie CAN be made on low budget & look & sound (after all that's the function of movies) like something from the 'big boys' irregardless of plot, etc. So I'll consider this "proof of concept" Kind of like "Lorem Ipsom" in the printing world!
Yeah, well they didn't have any lasers to replace the angle grinder with. . . . ....!!!!!! Disappointed though, that we couldn't see the maker's label. LOL
Too many irritating characters for me, especially the guy who immediately started drinking, now I remember why I stopped watching it before. All of the head smacking really got on my nerves as well. Just not for me.
Just watched this movie last night and I have to say it was brilliant. I don't think the UK has any bad actors as everyone in this was great. The CGI kind of took me out of the movie every now and then, but was pretty good over all. I thought Scarlett would have been killed when the C4 was detonated, but glad to she survived. And definitely looking forward to seeing what transpired at the very end of the movie. Well done!
If I were the Captain and Scarlett had kissed me like that, my son would have had a new step mother and we all would have had a happy story ending! Great job!
I had accidently come across this film in one of my many browsing sessions. Very well done on such a small budget. I'm assuming the set was reused from a prior movie¿ If so, which one.
I can see why so many awards. Good plot, and enough realism in the set. I love the opening when the systems become active again. The boot up is well thought out. One thing I have a bit of a curiosity about: It seems to me there'd be a rush by everyone to take a piss. Like right away. When I get up that's the first thing on my mind....er bladder. But like any other difficultly it was no doubt overcome by human ingenuity. We gonna have to figure out the problem of lavatory issues in long haul space flight. All in all these guys with a little more money could be the rivals of any Hollywood comic book production company. Thumbs up.
Surprisingly well done. I appreciate the fact that people did this for free. Almost unheard of these days. I could not always make out what was being said but I like the British accent - always have :) I am getting tired of the zombie phenomenon, though. Look forward to future productions.
THE FIRST 40 MINUTES ARE SLOW AND DULL AFTER THAT IT GETS REALLY STUPID AND BORRING - BUT IF YOU LIKE RETRO THE GRAPHICS ARE 80's TECH - IT WAS PROBABLY DONE IN A 386 MACHINE
I don't know how much this film cost to make but I wish I had that kind of money to waste; an absolute file of unconvincing dross. Nothing actually really happens in the 50+ minutes I've sat through and I'm not sticking it out to the end.
When it ended I said "no" you can't end like that" and it made me think and think and think until I realized, it had to end that way. The journey and the action and the acting was top notch, the pace was fast for there was action plenty of it, and the music really set the stage for your imagination, and the special effects weren't over the top, they were done just right, real enough but not cringe-worthy. I was glued from the get go- what a ride!
Thanks man. Really appreciate the review and so glad you enjoyed the film. It was great fun to make but lots of long days and hard work. All worthwhile when you read things like this. Thanks again for watching. Steve aka Screws.

it's an original piece by James Griffiths
@@BlokeOnAMotorbike Well, thank you for the information. The soundtrack is great.
okay.. wtf h appened at the end? The security forces wouldn't have shot.. the crystal would've exploded..
The ending was a little weak but all in all
not a bad movie considering the budget!
the CG was not great but all in all it was pretty good for a low budget indie.ive seen MUCH worse on syfy that cost millions to make.
They should have used superglue on the crystals.
LOL
loved the sparks coming from the plastic helmet!
Too many irritating characters for me, especially the guy who immediately started drinking, now I remember why I stopped watching it before. All of the head smacking really got on my nerves as well. Just not for me.
Bloody good show Chaps. and Ladies. only one American accent and no Hollywood budget great work Aussie Jeff
Okay, so when is the sequel to this being made? I loved it and cant wait to see more in the Driftverse! ;) Seriously tho, dont leave me hanging....
I enjoyed this film very much! Well done! Way better than a lot of the newer mainstream movies lately!
The movie was outstanding!
Great job!
7500$ budget hollywood could learn alot from this film.
I had accidently come across this film in one of my many browsing sessions. Very well done on such a small budget. I'm assuming the set was reused from a prior movie¿ If so, which one.
Anyone else say "Punch it" just afore the credits? Cheers Well done Backyard!
Thumbs up.
nicely done.
WTF WAS THAT, that was the biggest cliff hanger ive ever seen. But damn was the movie good.
Does anyone believe the budget was only 7500??? That's what it says in the description. No way. For that money this is very good.
The only thing I would criticize is the flickering lights. I hate bad lighting in horror movies.
This movie is more like watching mold grow on bread then anything else.
Where's the sequel!
Thanks man. Really appreciate the review and so glad you enjoyed the film. It was great fun to make but lots of long days and hard work. All worthwhile when you read things like this. Thanks again for watching. Steve aka Screws.
@@thomasbrown9699 I’d prefer a prequel as my character died. Cheers. Steve aka Screws.

bear in mind this is a student made movie. It didnt win any major awards, but not a bad effort either way. The music is good.
TheBlueskyson it's a kickass movie!!!!
In deep space, no sunlight, ship running on red night lights and our Pilot is wearing Ray-ban sunglasses?? WTF apart from this a good filum !
Ahh I just watched this. Absolutely brilliant !
Very well done. The production was top notch, the acting was not bad and the story even held my attention for the entire movie. Worth watching.
