It is interesting to watch Dr. Kwon increase the club head speed of high handicap players but to watch and learn from a session with a golfer of Drew’s talent is amazing. Well done.
Agree! It shows the depth of Dr. Kwon's knowledge. I'd be excited to hear in a few weeks Drew's assessment of this lesson on clubhead speed or ball speed.
I worked on keeping the shoulders closed at impact this past Tues and was hitting the ball so much more solid. Now I can work on the speed and maybe get some of my old distance again, at 68 y/o.
I have incorporated Dr Kwon technique into my swing routine over the winter and so far have found an increase in distance and accuracy. The forceful backswing increase my should and hip turn with a little re-centering and keeping my back at the target momentarily durning the downswing has given me slight closed shoulder at contact . Letting the arms and club go gives me the club head acceleration and square club face. Great stuff as always! I watch these over and over as you instructed different people as I might grab something that clicks with me!
There was a 2-3 second part in this video that resonated with me. It’s when Dr. Kwon says “use these muscles” and points to his abdomen to accelerate the club head thru the hitting zone. I always see many instructors telling students to “stay closed” or keep the back to the target, but there is rarely any intent discussed. Here, I believe Dr. Kwon is suggesting that the active backswing, slowing/lowering of the arms in transition allows golfers to get in a more shallow and optimal position to use core muscles to continue to drive the swing thru the hitting zone. Great stuff
In my Sunday 4sum, now have 3 of the 4 swinging ropes like Dr Kwon! One showed the rope swing to his excellent instructor, Keith Roberts in Studio City, who instantly embraced it. My brother-in-law is an excellent athlete who scored well despite a swing he accurately described as like a caveman clubbing a dinosaur. He's never been able to translate verbal tips or instruction into the right moves and feels, but the beauty of the rope swing is it teaches the body, not the brain. After ten years hovering around 15 handicap, we've all moved close to single digits and still improving. I'm 65. My drives had dropped to 240 being a good one and 3w 200, never making par 5 greens in 2, but now anything 550 or shorter feels doable. With rope swing, last Thursday 290 drive and 195 yard 4 iron - Chirrp putting mat helped me make the 11 foot downhill eagle putt. Please let us know if Drew finds higher swing speeds once he's on a monitor.
Obviously a guy who has top synchronisation of big muscles and fast fast muscles, and is overall very strong and hand-eye talented. Great swing and i bet a lot of fun playing like that.
What a great swing and tempo!!!! I love this kind of sessions with Dr. Kwon. You always learn something. When Dr. Kwon says to put more presure in the left leg after recentering is that pushing down with the left knee inward or outward to the left?
I think the recentering is basically shifting the weight to the left, as to gain the stability and to generate more power from pushing upward when hitting the ball, as soon as the club is almost finish reaching its farthest plane on the back swing. This concept is the same as hitting baseball. If you follow Dr. Kwon's 1-2-3 steps drill long enough, you will master this technique. However, the best way to realize this concept is to have/carrry some weights on your back so this will make/help you to have the squat and pushing upward feeling. In other words, always pretend like you are carrying some weight while you are swinging. That is the reason Dr. Kwon uses the weight during this type of excercise so that the whole body is working as one unit.
@@KawmLusMekas Appreciate your comment and understand the concept, I was just trying to clarify one small detail but I think you answered it when mentioning the squat so that makes me think that when recentering you need to push down and outward with your left leg
This is freak speed! Drew Cooper should be in the Remax long drive championship. He is almost with Kyle Berkshire in terms of the ludicrous speed he generates. A helicopter almost doesn't make a sound that loud! Athleticism + Biomechanical Expert = golf ball almost leaving the earth's gravity. Only a small group of people can produce this type of speed. We all can improve with these mechanics. Awesome stuff.
i would prefer to see numbers...before and after.i understand if it can be distracting to the golfer in session but ..they don't have to see the numbers during the session. everyone else can though . to me that is missing from Dr Kwon's videos. there's no quantification of results.
Would be interested on getting Dr. Kwon’s and Drew Cooper’s opinion on DJ and Hovlands bowed left wrist at the top of the backswing and how it affects clubhead speed.
I've watched numerous Dr Kwon/Be Better Golf videos, but few videos show the differences in swing speed and none that I've seen show how much, if any, of gained distance by ordinary students. I am currently working on and practicing Dr Kwon's swing and I like the moves, but have yet to see any consistent gains in distance. Also, I'd like to see if students are gaining any increase in developing lag, or not. I'm 73 yrs old and commonly drive the ball between 250 and 300 yards. (More often 250). This is down from my average of 3 yrs ago, at 270 to 320. I'm trying to get back the additional 20 to 30 yards.
@@Tevi_Kan Actually, I've had a similar swing for years, although focus more on my arms and hands, which I've not seen discussed by Dr. Kwon. I like his theories, but would like to see data as well. I'm 73 and still hit the ball pretty far; generally reaching 260 to 275. Every now and then I'll reach 300, but that's rare.
Very nice swing!! If you notice, he has a full swing, alot of regular golfers dont have a full swing like this, the reason for a full swing makes your arc alot bigger, if you don't turn alot on back swing, your arc is smaller, the larger the arc the farther you will hit, the guy with same speed swing with small arc is like 120 lets say, well with same speed, but larger arc, his swing will pick up speed.. also him making him swing from in to out, most golfers swing from out to in, which causes a slice, with in to out swing makes for a great draw or even hook..also swinging out makes your swing longer also...just my thoughts..very nice swing for sure..
I can/have swung 154mph but generally don't do that when hitting. I did sacrifice one of my callaways and went 146ish but I've broke so many clubs I get nervous going all out and have just been working on my ball striking.
Why so many trolls? Listen to the club head guys. If you heard that at the range you would first be scared and then be amazed. Enjoy his talent that is god given and worked for
I'm 65 with my L5 and S1 bone on bone, but the Kwon swing motion has actually taken loads of stress off my back and other joints: because it generates relaxed power through flow, when I'm doing it right, I finish a round feeling like I could go out and do another.
Brandon, would you say that Drew is actively using his hands/arms/upper body in the transition to swing hard at the ball or are his hands holding the club tight but it's all being dictated by his violent transition and lower body movement? I personally can't imagine that his upper body and hands are passive, but what do you say?
Drew really has the Henrik Stenson move working. It is something that has really helped my swing become more dynamic. Also, Chuck Quinton has been teaching these concepts for years, same for Malaska saying the swing should be athletic and not positions.
I'm not a doubter, because it is obvious that Dr. Kwon knows his stuff, but without a launch monitor, it is just an educated guess whether or not Cooper's clubhead speed actually increased during this session.
I'm curious how the active backswing exercises where the trail hip pulls up doesn't result in locked trail knee, something I struggle with as it usually means I stand up too much and lose my spine angle. Is the ability to be that active in the back swing without locking the rear leg just an athletic ability that gifted golfers have?
@@kiplingvisintini5783 yes I have seen all of his stuff and of course was impressed but the pure swing here is superior. Besides, the numbers back then were an estimation at best. Not here to argue.
I can see the improvement and it would have been nice to have seen some measured values but I'm wondering how valuable this is to the average club golfer who is not able to whack the s**t out of the ball with any consistency and therefore is aiming for distance yes, because more distance is a better strike but also wants to get around 18 holes in the fewest strokes.
My thoughts exactly man, it confuses the shit out of me. I have seen many coaches that promote the closed shoulders like Mike Bender and many others like Milo that are the opposite....
For this situation it has to deal with a feel for Drew flying open too early and sapping himself of extra core body speed. It’s my understanding that if you stay closed longer, the opening of the shoulders and hips actually happens with more aggressiveness out of shear necessity. So in theory, it should not affect how open you are at impact. That extra time staying closed is allowing the arms to lower (getting shallow) and increases the power and quickness of the hips/shoulders at the most important part of the swing.
The "shoulders closed" is kinda weird/interesting ... isn't that the exact opposite of what all other instructions say? You gain speed and accuracy when you turn through the ball with open body at impact. If you look at slomo of all the hard hitters, they are all super open at impact. Can someone explain?
Its very simple you are using your body to generate torque . you are talking about 2 different things - he is talking about the shoulders being closed at the top of the backswing - as the body recenters . that generates more torque. What is imperative is the lower body leads the forward swing - once that pressure has recentered to the left leg - then there is every reason to rotate your upper body on the forward swing - no one said anything otherwise.

This is all well and good and has become THE global obsession of people who take up "golf", but if you really want to score well and improve at golf you need to practice the skills that get the ball in the hole, not the dubious gains for the average player of getting more yards. Longer shots will always go more astray, period. There's a sort of cognitive dissonance of what needs to be done to make one a better golfer. I suspect it's all more an exercise in anthropology, where one perceives their own "breeding prowess" and peer group standing has been enhanced by becoming good at slugging. It's certainly not the best use of time for most golfers to improve, but hey, it gets clicks which is clearly what matters. A good example of how the market drives content, rather than what is objectively best for improvement .... and longevity of spinal health! However, this content is 100 percent suitable for Remax. 😊
That’s nowhere near 152 mph club head speed. That’s complete horse shit. If so show live numbers. At tops it’s 132-135. Period. If it was 152 he would be world long drive champ. He couldn’t touch Birkshre.
Maybe not amazing for 99.99% of all golfer! To try to copy super fit guy! Its quite silly to see this video for most golfer! Go to Malaska or Marcus Edblad! Thous guys have understan to play golf and hit ok far! You need to understand your hand and arms! After that you can maybe get some positive from this addvice!? To drive a car its more importent to handle the styring wheel then the gear box ! A gear box (body) that only give you 20% of speed compere to 80 % from the hand and arm!

😊
Hilarious.....how tf kwon gonna teach drew anything about speed?
Unless I see that 152 on a GCQuad, while hitting a ball, I don’t buy it.
You don't need to, just open your ears lol
He needs to get on long drive tour w/Kyle!
@@brendowill19 he’s fast, no doubt. Probably 140ish. But 152? I have my doubts.
Cool. No one cares what you think
That’s nowhere near 152 mph club head speed. That’s complete horse shit. If so show live numbers. At tops it’s 132-135. Period. If it was 152 he would be world long drive champ. He couldn’t touch Birkshre.
He has finished high at some long drive events and is currently ranked #24 on Long Drive World Rankings. It's definitely way above 132-135...
Cool. No one cares what you think
Pretty much what Padraig Harrington says in his YT Swing Tips series
Good video but monetize your channel . Make shorter and better edited videos . Use a ball tracker system and use two cameras. Is a great content to be wasted for lack of effort.
@Roenie Gaming it was just a recommendation , if he does not want to monetized this channel and just do it for filantropic -teaching purpose it’s ok to me .
@@MantrostTonyRojas2012 I believe he has a premium channel.
