I love the Tekki/Nihanchi application where you kick out the back of the knee.

That's one of my favourites! So many great applications and contexts for Nihanchi.

@monsterprone Started crane style late last year and only just stumbled a whole load of your vids. Loving them. Lots of good, easy to follow tips. Cheers. :)

I like the arm drag and use it from several positions. When standing, however, the biggest problem is the opponent rotates and unless you turn and secure the far side lat with your left arm and hand, they will spin out of it.

    • @monsterprone353

Agreed. They will absolutely try to turn out of it and you'll need to follow up with something to secure them. If taking their back and holding is the goal, you're right about needing to reach around and grab the far side. As long as you maintain your hold on the arm, though, they won't quite get out of it, but you'll end up in a bit of a stalemate where you both effectively have a similar position at your opponent's side. The advantage you have is initiative during the entry. If you don't do something, that advantage is lost.

Yeah a lot of handtrapping and clinch grappling been lost through time and karate due to the sport rules

It's true. There are people out there keeping it alive. Thanks for watching!

@@monsterprone353 thanks for putting out the content, hope to see more. It would be interesting to see your bunkai of the basic uke techniques

Thanks. It's been quite some time since I created a video. I had a long list of potential topics, and I've actually had most of the footage for two of them recorded for a long time, but never quite finalized them... Life make other plans!

@@monsterprone353 yeah I noticed that, so true, life has its fluctuations and not even tomorrow is promised. Still I hope to see more, because you're part of the revival of karate movement. May I ask what those videos are about?

Of the two that I have mostly finished, one is another rotation video specifically looking at mawashi geri (roundhouse kick), the other is on when to make/break contact with your opponent (and is more of a discussion than a demonstration or instruction).
At this point when I finally have a chance to finish them I wonder if you'll be able to tell which clips I'm two years older in! :)
