  • This Quick Tip takes a look at the similarities in hip position for front kick and side kick. While the base leg, direction of extension for power transfer, and posture are different, the way the hips open is similar and is worth exploring to better understand the mechanics of the techniques.
Cody Stewart is a martial arts instructor of Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu under Hanshi Patrick McCarthy. KU is a style of karate that utilizes impacting, clinch, throws, chokes, joint locks, and groundwork within a traditional Japanese budo framework. Emphasis is on civil self defense against habitual acts of physical violence (HAPV) and how all of the defensive themes are embodied in kata movements.

There are so many different ways to look at the same things. I like to keep looking around for people who explain things differently and sometimes something clicks. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! Sorry for the very late reply. Two gentlemen that i know make many videos (maybe not necessarily on RUclips) who you should look into are Ante Brannbacka of Finland and Kurt Graham of New Zealand. Both excellent martial artists with great content they've put out there.

Very good video. I like the breakdown about the balance during the kick and where your back foot should be, so you are not off balance.
Just curious what state you train in? I'm in NY. Thank you

Yeah, It's been a whole year! I took quite a break.
Ha! I'll keep the hair thing in mind. It sure is easier to roll out of bed and go when you buzz it off. That said, I suppose I never really had a lot of hair. :)
