Great job discussing your preferences and reasoning. Yeah, when I first got this monitor, my previous display for literally everything was a 1080p 32 inch tv from walmart, branded "Element". While some people don't quite understand our fascination with tweaking our display settings to give us the greatest satisfaction, it's most certainly something I appreciate a great deal. The difference between 1080p @ 32 inch flat display, to a curved 32 inch 1440p, not to mention multiple layers of controllable backlighting is a real eye opener. After getting this monitor originally for my xbox one, I ended up deciding to just buy an entire Desktop PC a year later, just to see what i've been missing out on. Small tweaks and adjustments for personal preference is key in maximizing your entertainment experience. Those who don't do this, in my opinion, are really missing out. Thanks for explaining your reasoning behind the settings and clarification of personal preference on the settings that were more suited to your tastes.
What about the overdrive settings? I'm thinking of getting a 1440p 21:9 curved, but these only come with VA panels, I'm not sure if all these black smearing/picture dimming demonstrations on RUclips are because of inoptimal settings or just an inherent VA problem (search for "odyssey g5 ghosting" for example) I also heard Samsung's G7 VA panels don't have this, but they're more expensive, don't come in 21:9 and nigh impossible to obtain where I live.
Just used your video to setup my monitor, I also have a Viotek side monitor so you calibration video got them so much closer in color saturation than the Samsung had with factory settings. Thank you!
Thanks for this! I have 32" G5 and my settings were awful i.e. dark areas were pixelated (this was caused by AV/PC mode being on AV for some reason) and colours were more-or-less "off", ignored these issues few first months, but after watching this and doing some tweaks of my own it looks waaaaay better! Still might need some minor tweaks, but definitely getting more out of my monitor now than ever before.
These settings are great, been playing on my G5 with the stock settings for a week and noticed it was terribly "plain" and just not exciting and looked kind of matte and not so colorful. After using these settings it has made it 100x better. But the settings in Nvidia control panel you recommened made it terrible, i had to ignore those and leave those at stock. These settings can be a bit of a eye strain at night though if you are in a darker room. I also find keeping the sharpness at 42 was a bit better, but any higher and i noticed the pixelating starting. Thank you very much for these settings though, made such a huge difference.

I bought mine 10 days ago. For those asking if it's worth it, if you're just a casual who doesn't really care about being super competitive, then yes. I play fps games casually and rpg/story games mostly (PC and PS4) and I like what I see. The rest I do with this monitor is browsing. Coming from an old 22" LG 60hz 1080p, I'm loving it. Hello bro, thanxs for your video. What are the settings you recommanded for the odyssey g5 ips model? Same as va panel?
Hey thanks for the video, I have a question. Did you download the icc file from Samsung and applied those settings or you directly applied those settings without the icc file? Thanks
I applied these directly without ICC file
Colours were washed out on default settings. This is sooo much better!
Plus, budget friendly. Ish.
Can't speak for the "elite gamers" because I'm not one lol.
As a tryhard fps and compétitive player I can say that the smearing on this screen is a real problem. But for casual gaming, this is worth it
After messing for way to long, I found these settings and a color profile at rtings review (its for lc34g55t)
Brightness: 21
Contrast: 70
RGB: 51-48-47
Gamma: Mode 1
Sharpness: 60 (56 is better on mine)
Black eq: 13
I also installed their ICC profile into windows. Left nvidia settings default, and use HDR.
I am not worried about monitor burning out with birghtness at 100, but my eyes would for sure. It was like reading on the sun. I am in a pretty dark room. Its really good settings for mine. For reading and gaming. I just adjust brightness in game, or pressing the monitor setting lever forward to compensate if some light should shine upon me.
I used the video settings first and with Freesync on my entire screen was one messed up blurry mess. I used your settings and now I think it's fine. Gotta do a little more testing.
@@UniQue1992 Glad to hear. It can be pretty frustrating proccess. I also have freesync on.
Getting a good baseline helps. Rest is amtter of taste ofc
For FPS games I saw a video saying its best to have freesync on, and vsync (set as global in nvidia panel) and fps cap 3 frames below max, so 162, using rivatuner that comes with msi afterburner.
This ensures max input no matter actual frames. Only tried one FPS game and it was indeed smooth. But im still running high on my 3080 so could be placebo
Dam you a life saver, these settings look real nice. Only thing is it's too low brightness. How could I increase it without changing much?
@@tahnx47 Use the brightness setting on the monitor. Just press the lever away from you and its the first setting. Brightness is dependent on room lighting. So its great that its an easy access setting on the monitor
Thanks dude, helped a lot
thank you! just used your settings and they look good 😉
On ultrawide odyssey G7 34" i cannot play with less than 68 sharpness. I wear glasses if that is a thing but eyes checked.
I guess a preference or a monitor thing, also HDR auto on windows setting.
I know that is a different monitor but your instructions gave me a benchmark to start, so thank you for this!
Cheers!
This is the original G5 also so the sharpness issue was fixed via firmware updates and on the newer versions which is why mine may seem way off
@@1UpNerdcore How do you update the firmware on the monitor?
I love your screen wallpaper. What is it and where did you get it?
Wallpaper engine app off Steam
Hey I have the same monitor how did you mount it? Its 75x75mm but most mounts are 100x100m that also have 75x75mm support. Did you perhaps get an adapter or bend the vesa mount?
I used a monitor arm with a 75 x 75mm mounting plate.
@@1UpNerdcore alright thanks i have a mount already but im gonna see if i can bend the 100x100mm protion so it fits if not ill try getting another vesa plate
My picture mode only lets me choose between hdr standard or hdr dynamic. Which do I choose? And what’s the best settings for it?
Great video
Do you turn the monitor off manually at the end of the day or you have it in sleep mode? Thanks
It turns off on its own when I shut down my pc
How did you set it up? My screen turn off when I shut the pc but I think it's in sleep mode. When I restart the pc the screen comes on again. Tx
I just ordered this monitor after watching your review and hopefully it's arriving tommorow. I'm kind of lost between displayport and HDMI. What's the difference and which one is overall better for this monitor? I heard that the colors on hdmi are better but it doesn't have freesync and so on. Could you please explain these differences? Thanks.
ruclips.net/video/f38sotYHqtA/видео.html
This is a little older but a great video on this
The monitor is here and I have no complaints.
I paid 280$ for the 27in version which was a steal considering that similar monitors like the G27 where around 350.
My unit has no black smearing issues,no dead or burnt pixels but there's a bit of backlight bleed at the bottom so I guess I didn't win the panel lottery.
Great video, but do you get terrible ghosting with this monitor? It's so bad for me.
It’s not the worst I’ve seen but it is pretty noticeable.
@@1UpNerdcore so it's par with other more expensive VA panels ?
So many people complain about ghosting on this monitor have you noticed any and is it worth buying for next-gen consoles? Thanks
I think I am late but I just picked up it for my Series X. I’m literally blown away by picture quality and response time. Very very good image quality. But in fully black scenes you can see a little ghosting but I don’t care about it.
For this price you can’t go wrong.
P. S I am coming from 2013 IPS 1080p 60hz monitor.
Yeah most cheaper monitors will have ghosting i got it on my aog monitor but like you I just deal with it and you get use too it eventually if you are going for a budget monitor its something u got too deal with
Thanks you sharing! I using your settings.
Does this work with Gsync compatibility ? I just ordered this and want to know if the freesync on this will work with rtx 3070
It will, it’s not officially certified but it works
@@1UpNerdcore How do I turn off the blue flashing light near the button at the bottom of the monitor that you used at the beginning of the video. I find it harder to sleep with it on
do you face any obvious black smearing issue while gaming..? or ghosting issue?
very helpful bro thank you sooomuch
When playing games with a good graphic like Ghost of Tsushima, is it better with freesync on or off? Because I notice all seems a little blurry with free sync on
Dont use it unless you can configurate it with a pc
What button do you press to even access these settings I only got this monitor today and it’s first one I’ve ever owned so have no idea what I’m doing??
I picked this up for console gaming and have been trying to set the best image for my PS4 and eventually a PS5. Any thoughts on settings that don't have access to the PC NVIDIA settings? I think more people might be considering monitors like this for the next generation of game consoles.
Ps5 doesn’t support native 1440p, hopefully they update it in the future.
@@1UpNerdcore Right. I did read an article this is one of the monitors that PS5 will recognize as 4K and downscale strangely
I use it on my ps4 (not ps4 pro) and its pixelated because ps4 doesnt support 2k. Hows it going with your ps4?
@@holdem8211 same bro, more then pixelated I would say blurred, I tried to fix sharpness but nothing changes
The game where it happens the most is Ghost of Tsushima, maybe because of how the graphic of the game is
Hopefully this will help in gaming and hopefully Starfield. Cause its a mess rn.
Do u have an issue with this monitor and using freesync with Nvidia? Every time I active g sync it causes black screens to appear in game for a second then go back.
Been playing on a cheap $140 cured Samsung monitor for ab 4 years now. 1080 of course. Once I hooked up this G5 on my series x with 1440 @ 120 I find everything looks worse. Everything looks like super washed out.
For example while playing division 2 on my older monitor I could see extremely far with no blurring, now I cannot. Anything beyond 50 meters of my character has a slight blur.
Mine is the same way the settings just make it worse
@@Redd-mo5bt I’m honestly about to return it and get a dell 24 inch curved 1080. The blurring is so bad that it’s giving me headaches and I’m used to having 12-16 hour gaming sessions with no issue
Could you resolve this issue?
I have the g5 but want a dualmonitor setup. do you have any tips for a good and cheap dualmonitor for the g5?
Depends on what you’re looking for. Resolution, refresh rate, curve, extra USB ports etc.
Thanks bro,got this monitor today and wasn't happy with the colours. After following your settings i have bright and brilliant colors just how I imagined. Ty
Is it good for watching movies??
@@music-library2614 yes, i watch movies and like it
I appreciate the settings but do you have any way to not lose details
Im using this monitor on my ps4 what do you suggest for my settings i play a lot of cod please answer do i have to put free sync on or off for ps4?
Great channel glad I just found this 👍👌
i turned the sharpness back up into the 50s because in the 20s its so blurry that you cant tell what kind of material/texture something is
How did you compensate for the massive amount of ghosting? I got one of these monitors, but the ghosting is almost unbearable.
I heard some people suffer with ghosting issues and others not at all
@@Walhor thanks for the reply. I ended up having way too much ghosting so I turned it into a work monitor. I couldn't find anything to help with it
@@SeriphimGaming aw that's too bad did you find another monitor to use to game with?
@@Walhor I bought a LG C1 that I'm going to hook up today.
Can the G55A output at up to & above 120Hz when FreeSync is enabled? From what I understand, VRR tech can dynamically adjust a display's refresh rate from the lowest possible refresh rate of the display to the highest possible refresh rate of the display.
awsome video, turned my G5 up to 11 :D
i just got this monitor and it has pretty bad ghosting. i can't seem to tweak the settings and minimize it...Any suggestions or is this just the curse of VA panels
It’s really just the curse of VA panels
have you solved with the ghosting problem?
@@Rufuz_tv i have the same problem but I can't resolve it
Do you have to turn off the monitor on the power button? Or is it enough to turn off the computer and not touch the monitor? The power button is pretty soft on this monitor
If there’s no input signal any monitor will turn off
@@1UpNerdcore thank you
Only me having major problems with this monitor? I cant run 165hz and freesync enabled, i get 1-2 sec black screen.. like signal loss or something 😴 no fix for it aswell.. none that has worked for me anyways ! Tried disable windows mpo etc but nothing
Very helpful video, but I have a question so when I opened the (NVIDIA control panel only shows the samsung screen not the other black screen on tour video ! Can you please explain how to open it?
I tried your settings they work for me
Any explanation to why the monitor is so blurry with free sync enabled on xbox?
Check your sharpness settings on the monitor and see if you can change the response time in the settings
Thanks buddy 😊
👍 thx for the settings. I have g7 since yesterday it looked so dark I got mad 🤣 couldnt find out how to brighten it up. Plugged my ps5 as well. Like u said hdr hmm not so much maybe I do something wrong dont know it.
How can I use the speakers of the monitor ? Pc connected with DP and ps5 hdmi but cant seem to use the monitor speakers any help ?
Just connected a new laptop with this monitor.when using "display only g5 monitor" the colours become dark and dull.when I use duplicate display colours are vibrant but there's frame drop to 50-60 fps.Should I use u r settings with my monitor as second display or do u suggest me smt different?
is it now a g5 or g7 cause in discr. you got g7 and why not linus in it ^^
and on my g5 and cant set brightness to 100%
Why you use sharpness option and not Samsung Magic sharpness option?
appreciate this, thank you 🙏
amazing video thank you
why when hdr is enabled everything goes so grey, even with that brightness balance slider all the way up? is that normal? i taught hdr should make everything visually better...
For Black Equalizer. Is 16 or 18 better for you Guys? See some that have 16 on. Whats better?
Hi I hope you can help but for some reason I can’t set it 144hz. I am using the hdmi cable that was in the box. Do you have a solution?
Are you using a ps5? And if not, how it works with this console and if is a good option to take advantage of the 120fps games like cold war
I’m not. PS5 doesn’t support native 1440p and I don’t know if this will upscale you 4k so I don’t think it’s a good option for that.
