I teach people to knit for a living, and I can confidently say that you are actually doing a great job! Like, a lot better than some students I’ve had, and I’m impressed because you taught yourself! If you really want to learn to knit, just keep practicing! Start with a scarf, a smaller amount of stitches on your needles, and just knit every row until it’s as long as you want. Practice makes perfect!

That's like wondering why someone would charge you to teach different crafts like welding, carpentry, mechanical work, etc. If people aren't willing to pay and/or teach themselves that's cool too but some people need the extra help and she and other instructors deserve to be compensated for their time and efforts. Plus isn't it a dream to get paid for doing what you love? So just because it's a love for knitting it's not worth the money?

I need to get myself one of those book. 🧶 Also his confusion about the knitting and pearling was me for 2 years after I learned to knit, I thought that a knit was a pearl and a pearl was a knit. The confusion is real.
I went to college for fiber arts and I feel the exact same way every time I try to knit, I'm super impressed at your endurance tho and you were actually doing really freaking good.
I knit and trust me, you're going through a similar process to what I went through. You're doing great for someone this early on. If you really want to learn then start much, much smaller, gain confidence in your skills, and then consider making that afghan. Afghans are BLANKETS, and blankets are huge! Start with a small series of dishcloths, once you've made two or three you should be able to start and finish one in a single night. Understand how to cast on properly, and if long tail is confusing for you (I haven't learned it yet, who needs it) then try the crochet cast on, my favourite. Learn the basic knit, purl, and then the knit 2 together (k2tog) and slipslipknit (ssk) and you'll be good to go for almost anything you could want to make. Toss in a yarn over to experiment and open up the world of lace making. If you're a visual thinker then know that knitting patterns also come as charts, however make sure you know how to read them first or you will get lost and frustrated quickly. Once you get bored of these little squares that teach you skills move on to bigger things. Love your stuff!
As a longtime, self taught knitter, I can relate to what you're going through. When I taught myself to knit, I spent 2 solid weeks, tying knots in the yarn while trying to get the yarn and needles working together. lol. But I was determined not to give up. I'm so glad that I didn't. I've been knitting for MANY MANY years and I love it. If you are genuinely interested in learning how to knit, don't give up. You're doing great and I can see a lot of progress from your first video.

She took it out, washed it, kept it for another ten years before giving it to me when I was born 😂 It was my favourite toy as a kid and I still have it 😂
