I love my C100 Mark II. It's been to Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Finland. I upgraded my carry-on luggage so I could take it anywhere easily. It has won us several nominations and awards for our projects. I think I would buy a 2nd one before buying another camera.
I bought mine when they first came out so I paid the big buck, but I have no regrets as you mentioned all the positives about this great cinema camera. The log footage is a dream to work with even though it is only 8 bit. You can push the footage in post as much as I need. If I was looking for a similar camera right now and I was just getting into cinema cameras, I would buy this camera for sure! It is a joy to shoot with and offers all one needs for most work. Cheers from Canada!
I've had mine for just going on a year now, and have had no regrets. Was able to pick it up for $1800 CAD which was an absolute steal. Ergonomics and functionality really did it for me, and these all come with the added benefit of great image quality.
I have C100 Mk1 and two C100 Mk2 that I use on a weekly bases for a 3 camera livestream and also use them during the week for RUclips videos and family events. They are great cameras and really enjoy using them.
I want to buy one in the worst way… that cinematic shot that comes out of the camera is so good and it doesn’t kill your computer with the big file sizes… I think for me, that is the biggest selling point for this camera… great video🙏🏼
I am using C100 Mk II for like 7 months or so now and I love it, the ease of use, the robustness of it and the battery life is also awesome. There is just one tiny little detail that I miss badly - tracking autofocus. It would be great if the camera could do the face tracking when focusing, not just in the center (I am a huge fan of golden ratio composition). But the rest is perfect and 1080p will be - I believe - great for years. Your video confirms my experience with this camera - thank you!
Excellent video!!! I've had my C100 Mark II for almost 5 years and it's still my go to camera! I absolutely love it! I've been looking for a new camera, but nothing I've looked at has made me get the warm fuzzies like my C100 Mark II did right out of the box. Currently looking at the Panasonic EVA1, but I'm just not ready to pull the trigger because it might sit in the closet with my other cameras while I'm using my C100 Mark II!
i want to upgrade to c100 mii as my first cinema camera. I think that this video is the final push i need to go buy one XD. Loved the video, you're a natural talking to the camera! Keep it up bro
I have been using DSLR’s and 2@Canon XC 10. Last week i made the decision to trade my XF200 for the C100 Mark II. Will receive it next week. I am excited, like a kid waiting for Xmas. 😃
Thank you for helping to clear my confusion as to which camera to buy. This Camera seemed the best of old times and was carefully build with attention to detail. I think l will go for this video camera, as it fits all my project. There is no need to buy a camera that does not fit your purpose simply because it is new. Old things sometimes are far better than newer ones in some cases., while some new products can also be good and better, but l think it boils down to what works for your project is very important. I don't need C500 or C700 for instance, so why buying them? Thank you so much, Wayward!
I love this camera, owned three in the past and I still kinda miss em. I did break one by dropping it from about 5 feet up though 😅 only the hdmi port but funny that you said that
I have a hybrid audio/video studio. We've used a C100 mkii as our main cam for a couple years. Bought a couple of the "latest greatest" BMPCC4K's when they came out, mainly to have a 4k shooter. They are our B cams, and honestly a giant PITA to work with. We'd much rather have more C100's instead. We'll probably sell the BM's and get R6's, just for 4k content. Also, add the RF to EF w/ variable ND adapter and you get the same awesome "built in" ND filters as on the C100 (except the adapter is infinitely variable). Also, looking forward to better dynamic range and low light performance on the R6. If it did AVCHD codec, I'd be happy as hell! There's no doubt, the C100 is a classic. And you didn't even talk much about arguably it's best feature: absolutely AMAZING color science out of the box. Sure you can mess around with grading and color correcting giant RAW or Prores files to get similar results from other cams, but with the C100 it's gorgeous color science, right out of the box in tiny little files that are easy to work with. Greatly improves work flow, which is an often overlooked aspect that should be highly valued for professionals. Thanks for giving this cam the props it deserves! Aloha!
One thing I like is how the screen can fold flush in the back with the screen facing you, making it really nice to use with a gimbal. The only reason I upgraded was clients wanted 4K.
Really helpful video, I have been on the fence about getting this for a while, fearing that it will become outdated not long after buying it. But I feel confident that it will be a sound investment, the file sizes and nd filters combined with the long life batteries make it a no brainer for me for wedding and youtube videos. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much! I think that is a well understood fear, I think about that all the time but I’m so glad I’ve stuck with these cameras through the years. One of my favs
Thank you so much for making this video. Some of the most recent videos about the c100 are a little bit dated and I think this video just tipped me over the edge. Awesome video - subbed!
I’m bias towards the C100 Mark ii. Personally, depends on a few things: Budget and Use. It’s for a short film, personally I feel the cinema camera offers more from a professional standpoint but you can really use any camera as long as the story is there. Is one better than the other, not necessarily but the cinema camera definitely offers more for the user than the Canon 90D. XLR inputs, built in NDs, Super 35 sensor, dual SD, Small Manageable file sizes, C-log, Great battery life, etc etc.
HI BRO I have two options to buy a Sony A7III or a Canon C100 II at the same price, I ask about sharpness, dynamic range and colors, and is the quality of Canon FHD really comparable to 4K
I was thinking of getting one recently, is it still worth it as an first proper cameras - I have used cameras before (rent) but never had one of my own - should I consider getting this or are there better options in 2023.
Hello I love you video there is a way you can share the Settings shoes for your camera and what kind of lights he used to make videos look great thank you
Are you mostly shooting on clog or wide dynamic range? What is your post production work flow to get the best out of the camera? Do you add a slight contrast to the Wide dynamic range?
Allow me to answer, even though you've asked the video author probably (using C100 Mk II too). I use CLog only and my color grading in Premiere Pro consists of slight exposition increase, slightly bigger increase in contrast, individual highlights-shadows-white-black corrections (differs by the scene), slight saturation adjustments and the sharpness increase. Of course all of these changes go along the constant checking of the Lumetri Scopes to make sure I do not cross 0-100 boundaries. Hope it helps. WideDR isn't bad, but I missed more DR back then (probably just the specific scene situation...), so I switched to CLog entirely.
Still use C100 Mark II for most of my work. After most C70 short fillms ive seen, I can confidently say I can do this with a C100 Mark II anyday. Just wish It had Focus options of C70
Bought one in 2019 after using one at work for 4 years. Why does Canon still make this camera? Because it's a reliable, workhorse camera with a proven track record. The built-in ND's and good sound are HUGE and the layout of controls and menus is very good. Yes I wish it did 4K, but the image quality is terrific and the files grade remarkably well for being so small. Really great run and gun camera. Just so much to like with this camera after all these years. I'm going to rent a C70 when it comes out and it may be my upgrade from the C100 but for now, for the work I do, this camera fills my needs.
Thanks so much! Yeah I started filming this way about a year ago and I love it. It simplifies my workflow and makes things easier navigating through an edit. Of course, I definitely suggest experimenting with multiple frame rates and see which one you like best and what works well for you.
Brother, you can't go wrong with this C100 series. I bought the original C100 when it was first announced, $6499. With the shoots I've used to on over the years, it has paid for itself many times. I never got the DPAF upgrade. but you learn how to pull focus. With all go yjer above being said, I bought the EOSR a year ago this month mainly for the DPAF and as a second camera. I struggle with getting the C70. It seem to be a very nice camera with many upgrades, but I could also pickup another C100 or C100MKII at a fraction of the price.. Great footage and video you posted!
Thanks so much! I agree, wouldn't mind getting the Canon C70 to test out but investing in a new camera right now is hard to do! Have been contemplating selling my C100s for the C70 and just running the C70 & Canon R6 but I really don't NEED to do that. These camera companies have me MESSED up haha
Coming from a d800, this looks ergonomic and awesome. I may have to pick one up given the price and I would like to avoid the ingestion/processing time other new 2021 cinema cameras come with.
Well presented. Rented a C100 Mark II for a wedding last week and loved it. Ended up finding one on EBay, with a sigma 16-35 for around $2,600. Should arrive today! Not to mention, the file sizes are so palatable! Used the C100 for over 90% of the day and I barely hit 12 gigs of SD card space! Whereas my 1DX Mark II used well over 100 Gb, with 10% use. 😂
Thanks so much! That's awesome! Yeah, the file sizes on the new age cameras are insane!!! haha, having something like the C100 and still getting a great image is just a breath of fresh air. Excited for you man!
Wayward - one question- is the wedding footage in this camera shot with the Sigma 18-35 1.8? I've seen several reviews with C100 owners that swear by this lens for it's range and sharpness that mates very well with the C100. I know the autofocus isn't the greatest, but the sharpness and wide aperture have really made me consider this lens.
Dude thanks for the video. I also have a R6 and recently got hired to shoot a mini doc and considering this camera over buying a 2nd R6. I primarily shoot 1080p so video specs aren’t a deal breaker for me.
The fact that the sensor is actually capable of 4K but the camera records in 1080p (gives you a good 1080p in the end), even if it was unpopular back then, with social media today and the way they compress videos… and most people watch it on a phone… That camera is not obselete yet!
looking to upgrade my camera and found your vid helpful. Thinking of buying a C100 used. This may sound like a silly question, but is the kit/factory lens good? I have hear a lot about the Sigma 18-35
This video was super helpful. I’m having issues with constant strobing and flickering on the c100 when filming inside with LED and artificial light, tried lots of different things with shutter speed and changing settings but still no luck. Any advice?
This was great. I found a killer deal through a friend. I currently have the Bmpcc4k and love it but i have some issues with it. Even the 6k pro looks tastey but I have yet to be asked for 4K and cannon looms beautiful
@@WaywardNorth I have that Canon 135 F2. That lens is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used. I can’t believe that Canon Discontinued it! I love that lens to the moon and back!
I mostly shoot talking head videos in a controlled environment (much like your review here). My other shooter is a Canon RP. Have two of those but would consider selling one to invest in this one. I’m looking for a more cinematic look/image as opposed to ONLY shooting in C-Log. Would you go for this over the R6?
After watching this video, I have decided to go with the EOS 100 MK ii. I am wondering though, for a decent lens, It will come with an EF 24-105mm. For filming inside breweries and street interviews, would you stick with just that lens or recommend anything different? I see there are a few lens's out there for this camera, IE 24mm, 50mm, 85mm prime lens as well as the EF 16-35mm, EF 24-70mm and EF 70-200mm. Im just wondering if the stock EF 24-105mm will be good.
do you feel like you run into auto focus issues with that sigma ? i have a canon 16-35 now but i like the 1.8 of the sigma . Should i switch to the sigma for my C100 ii or stay with the canon ??? please let me know . Im a new subscriber i really like you work even tho I don't do weddings
Hey thanks so much for subbing! I really do prefer the Sigma glass over canon. I think they tact sharp, reliable, fast, and more budget friendly over Canon. I haven't noticed any considerable differences between the two when it comes to AF on the C100 since you are limited on the C100 to center frame AF tracking. I also recommend renting before you buy. Get a feel for the lenses and see if they would be a good fit for your setup!
Hey Wayward, most of my questions already solved with your great info in this video. I'm just curious to know if I can use C100 for croma key/green screen videos.
It just depends on the scene and couple really. In most cases I use it on the Ronin just to be bit more mobile or feel like creating something a bit more dynamic and then monopod when the couple wants more documentary feeling (static shots, pan, tilt, etc) it all really depends on the style.
@@WaywardNorth Okay great! Thank you, I actually just purchased the camera thanks to your recommendation, and I’m just trying to see how I can make the most with what I got. I have a Canon EOS R as well that I’ve been using for years now. I’m just not sure how to proceed with both cameras. I didn’t know you could balance the C100 on a gimbal, but I’ll give it a shot. My main worry is how to switch between the two on a wedding day. It would be awesome if you made a video on the behind the scenes at your wedding. Would love to learn more! Subbed!
This camera really makes me want to upgrade to it when my time comes to upgrade but then the bmp4kmalso looks good. Well let see how 2021 goes for my business and then we will see
@@alexshotthese I almost went the black magic route with the pocket 6K but I just couldn’t leave canons cinema line. Excited to test out the new C70 though. So. Many. Cameras..
@@WaywardNorth I don’t blame you! Reliable auto focus, great ergonomics, and built in ND’s are something I miss every time I shoot haha. I’ve got my camera rigged out though to help with ergonomics.
It is 1080 but you can upscale your video to 4K for better compression. RUclips compression isn't the greatest so you can get better viewing experience but upscaling in post.
Yeah It's a tricky decision. You just have to look at what you value more from a camera - with the bmpcc you get great quality but lack built in ND's, battery life, auto focus. However, you aren't getting 4K recording from the C100 Mark ii. If Blackmagic is more fitting for your style and workflow, I would consider the new BMPCC 6K pro!
@@P3REiiRANO only reason is the quick turnover on editing, the file size is much smaller using mxf. Unfortunately is it very hard to pull footage from lowlight. Using clog kind of helps...
Great in the centre of the image. Anything outside of the centre you will need to manual focus. You get used to using the AF Lock button a lot on this camera.
Why is everyone complayning about big file sizes when that means that the image is litteraly better, easyer to collorgrade higher resolution and all that,of course the files are gonna be bigger
Generally larger file sizes come with the need for faster processors, more expense on the backend to upgrade. Yes you get better images but how much does it truly cost to achieve. Obviously we live in the age of M1, M2 fast write speeds, proxy capabilities, but I think the general consensus is simplicity will always remain a sought after mentality and at the end of the day we have some many amazing options out there. Choose your weapon, perfect your craft, and have fun 🤩
I wouldn't say it is obsolete, if it were I doubt B&H would still have it on their marketplace. Of course there will always be camera advances, just the world we live it. But there's still some amazing qualities this camera has that still make it a great entry level cinema camera.
I make money with this camera constantly. No one ask for 4k. No one ask what camera I use. It's paid for itself 100x!
Is it worth to buy the camera for my self? I will not produce any Video for customers, I will just use ist for my own stuff. Or du you think a other camera ist better for me?

Do you shoot a wedding at 60fps all day and adjust in post or do you go between 60 and 24?
Wayward - one question- is the wedding footage in this camera shot with the Sigma 18-35 1.8? I've seen several reviews with C100 owners that swear by this lens for it's range and sharpness that mates very well with the C100. I know the autofocus isn't the greatest, but the sharpness and wide aperture have really made me consider this lens.
I would say a majority of the film is shot with the Sigma 18-35 and the Sigma 50mm for sure. Can’t go wrong with either of these lenses
Dude thanks for the video. I also have a R6 and recently got hired to shoot a mini doc and considering this camera over buying a 2nd R6. I primarily shoot 1080p so video specs aren’t a deal breaker for me.
Thanks man! I think thats a solid plan. Honestly, I love using the pair together!
@@WaywardNorth the only issue, I don’t have any EF lenses since I’m all in on RF lol
@@dlovisuals Ah yes that is quite the conundrum lol. Guess C70 IT IS!
The fact that the sensor is actually capable of 4K but the camera records in 1080p (gives you a good 1080p in the end), even if it was unpopular back then, with social media today and the way they compress videos… and most people watch it on a phone…
That camera is not obselete yet!
I love this camera! Such a beast even today 🙏🏻
looking to upgrade my camera and found your vid helpful. Thinking of buying a C100 used. This may sound like a silly question, but is the kit/factory lens good? I have hear a lot about the Sigma 18-35
I think investing in glass is more important than the camera - I HIGHLY recommend the Sigma 18-35mm. Such a great lens!
@@WaywardNorth Thanks for the reply !!
When recording in slow motion can you have c100ii recording on 2 sd cards ? Or only one at time(so no buck up as for HSVC)

This video was super helpful. I’m having issues with constant strobing and flickering on the c100 when filming inside with LED and artificial light, tried lots of different things with shutter speed and changing settings but still no luck. Any advice?
True story. Still love mine a lot :)
This was great. I found a killer deal through a friend.
I currently have the Bmpcc4k and love it but i have some issues with it. Even the 6k pro looks tastey but I have yet to be asked for 4K and cannon looms beautiful
The depth of field on your shots is amazing. What lens is your primary?
Thanks so much! I mostly use the Sigma 50mm 1.4. A lot of the shots were also shot on a 135mm F2.
Would you go for this over the R6?
got one for AUS $1500, do u think its a good deal?
After watching this video, I have decided to go with the EOS 100 MK ii. I am wondering though, for a decent lens, It will come with an EF 24-105mm. For filming inside breweries and street interviews, would you stick with just that lens or recommend anything different? I see there are a few lens's out there for this camera, IE 24mm, 50mm, 85mm prime lens as well as the EF 16-35mm, EF 24-70mm and EF 70-200mm. Im just wondering if the stock EF 24-105mm will be good.
Did you find your answer ?
@@nitablackwood6301 I decided after a lot of thinking to go with the Canon EOS R6 with 4 great lenses.
@@stevesiroissr6165 ahh great setup. I hope it’s treating you well!
I'm getting mines tomorrow!! hehe
I am very interested in the Canon C100 Mark ii,
Is the Canon C100 mark ii a good camera for a beginner, as a hobbyist.
Absolutely, it’s super easy to use and get familiar with and is a great entry even cinema camera in my opinion
do you feel like you run into auto focus issues with that sigma ? i have a canon 16-35 now but i like the 1.8 of the sigma .
You can really use any camera for green screen work. The trick to getting the best results is making sure it is well lit!
@@WaywardNorth Thank you Buddy
Great work as always, Man!
Thanks man!
Do you end up putting the C100 mkii on the Ronin for most of your weddings or on the monopod?
Well let see how 2021 goes for my business and then we will see
Very smart! The bmpcc4K is a great cam as well!
I was in the same boat for awhile too. I’ve landed on the bmpcc4k myself and love it. Miss the built in ND’s though...
@@alexshotthese Yeah already subscribed to your channel. Your videos were very informational.
Avchd any different from mp4? Besides the audio
Honestly I haven’t been able to tell a noticeable difference. I’m always using MP4 though.
Just bought the C100 mark ll.
hi which sites did you mention to buy used camera? and do you have spare canon eos 7 if you want to sell ?
Check out lensrentals.com or borrowlenses.com
Stunning colour!
I have one and need to bring it back out.
Do you record in MP4 or AVCHD?
I record in MP4!
C100 Mark II is a 1080 right?, How can it be seen in 4K in your video?, Did you record with an external recorder?
It is 1080 but you can upscale your video to 4K for better compression. RUclips compression isn't the greatest so you can get better viewing experience but upscaling in post.
BGH1 OR C100 m2 ?
Ay North Carolina as well! BULL CITY GANG
I'm wondering should I sale my bmpcc 4k for auto focus and internal ND plus great quality but in 1080p and can't really crop in when needed 🤔
@@WaywardNorth honestly I'm only worried about the cropping in when needed even though I have ranges from 18-200 in lenses
@@WaywardNorth Not to mention the XLR ports are very tempting as well
Man. I needed this guidance....
Upgrading from a xc15 and 80d as my gear. Want to keep my xc15 and ditch my 80d. Match both a c100/200/300 and a xc15
Jesus, why do you prefer the xc15 over the 80d?
@@P3REiiRANO only reason is the quick turnover on editing, the file size is much smaller using mxf. Unfortunately is it very hard to pull footage from lowlight. Using clog kind of helps...
Thanks for this.
Greetings 2026. Yes, the C100 MK II is still a great camera.
if im getting this for 999 dollars is it a steal?
Yeah thats almost a too good to be true deal! But hey, if there is nothing wrong with the camera, get it while its hot!
How's the autofocus?
Great in the centre of the image. Anything outside of the centre you will need to manual focus. You get used to using the AF Lock button a lot on this camera.
I am really thinking about getting one so bad
I have one that I've been using for the last 4 years. Beautiful camera! Going to upgrade to the C70 but my C100 MK2 will be the B cam for weddings.
@@shawnOnTheTube okay.. I am going to get one. I am a Panasonic user
Can this camera shoot on Clog?? And slow motion???
It sure can!
It’s not the same clog as c200, for example. Much more contrast and low dr.
It just works. :)
Great video. I definitely want to get one but I want to find one at a better price point since I already own a bmpcc 6k
It’s now $1300 new.
I got one & while it's a great camera, auto-focus and 10 bit advances make it obsolete.
I wouldn't say it is obsolete, if it were I doubt B&H would still have it on their marketplace. Of course there will always be camera advances, just the world we live it. But there's still some amazing qualities this camera has that still make it a great entry level cinema camera.
I planned on watching this video to decide weather to buy a c100 or not
I come away upset that I don't have a girlfriend
Haha this is a good comment.
🙋♂️!!!👌🎥👍...
398 c100mii owners... lol 6 folk who just just won a c100 on ebay....not on purpose.
