    There are plenty of great people actually making beta leads and model t’s and not just talking about it. I’ll support them.

  • @xmortlyx

    This company shouldn’t have even announced until the model T was figured out. Huge missed opportunity there. The fact that they’re spamming my inbox multiple times a week to invest just tells me money is tight and things are getting desperate. Imagine if they would have launched with new model T’s ready to go for 3k. It would have been crazy. If they didn’t have the capital to open with the model T, they should have waited until they did.

    As someone in the Music Industry (I'm the Chief Marketing Officer for Singular Sound) and with experience in equity crowdfunding, I've gotta say, this looks to me like they're struggling for money. There's likely some cash flow issues behind the scenes and the raise is an attempt to get funding in order to deliver on pre-orders and/or bring in enough cash to have stock after pre-orders are delivered. This coupled with the lack of any real indication that amps are in production/being completed, doesn't paint a great picture. I'd love to be wrong however!

    I agree with your feelings. I've periodically been going to the site and it seemed dead in the water from when it first went live. They have always had the investment opportunity thing on the site, but it was more of a corporate opportunity, the Kickstarter-ish thing seems new. I suspect that something happened/they ran out of $ / didn't have the $ to actually start manufacturing, so a bunch of designs/protos are there waiting for the $$ to get made and now are trying to scramble to get the stuff produced. Every time I went back to the site to check on it the whole thing just started to smell weird to me, like they jumped the gun on the reality of it or something happened. So I decided to steer clear of it completely until it actually existed. I hope they get it sorted out and get rolling. I'm sure they had good intentions and were excited as us about Sunn, but it really seems like they ran into issues with finances. It would probably to be to their benefit to be transparent about it.
    Just my impression of the whole thing.

    I work in retail and manage the barbecue section of my store and deal with pre-orders from time to time.
    I have a good relationship with the companies i deal with and they do not invoice me till the item is available in the werehouse ready to ship.
    I dont do preorders at the store level with new products - we gladly take contact info and when the item is available for order i contact them for a deposit to order the item for them.
    I did this because i have been burnt by preorders in paintball where the company wants the money for the item upfront before the item is ready to sell.

    The actual investment product is a SAFE which is effectively a scam unless they hit a triggering event such as an IPO or an acquisition by another company. An IPO is exceedingly uncommon in MI. Fender considered it and then pulled out years ago. An acquisition is maybe possible but there would have to be some reason for it such as like... making amps that sell well enough to keep the company in business. Something that hasn't worked out all that well for the brand name in the past. If neither of those things happen then any money "invested" through this campaign is effectively a gift to the company other than the 25% they'll let you spend on products that don't actually exist yet and that aren't really the one product people wanted.

    Glad you made this video. When Sunn announced they were going to be making more amps, my first thought was "They're going to be unfairly unaffordable...." Like, gouging at a premium due to hype. I don't know if that's the case, but that's what I felt. To hear now that it's kind of curious makes me feel like I wonder what's going on with it all, or that my instinct was justified in thinking "Hmmmmmmm...." I wonder what will become of it, but also glad I didn't chip in. I can wait until they're standard production, but, probably still too much money for a re-issue.
    I hope everyone gets what they paid for. I hope it continues beyond that in a way that most can afford the hardware in a relevant price point for what it is beyond a name.
    Dear Sunn: Prove me wrong.
    Thanks.

It looked good to me, hope that's the case. I wonder...can't Fender kinda jump in here as a line holder sorta thing until it starts rolling?..like asking your parents for a couple bucks...lol🤪...i know...I'm just trying to be optimistic....i wonder how many others are in my spot?...or I'm the only one that's got an order in🤣🤣

    The prices are outrageous. For a company to come out with as big of a flex as they did without dropping a Model T, ask for like $50 for a t shirt then drop "a great business opportunity" on us is incredibly suspect. I hope I'm wrong, but this incarnation of Sunn O))) is going to fail miserably. Good on you for remaining Switzerland on this and being a pro... I'll say what everyone else is thinking.

    Whats weird is that the Beta Lead pre amp is exactly the same layout as the Hilbish Design pre amp(exactly). The 200 watt Class D output section on the other Betas are the same as Hilbish also.

  • @SuperflyCLB
    @SuperflyCLB 4 месяца назад +1

    Things I dislike: This current incarnation doesn’t properly own the brand name or product designs, it’s still in Fender’s back pocket.
    Second, no equity for a higher level investment (talking $10k+) on the page we’re discussing. Instead you get some swag, a discount, and the ability to beta test fwiw. They should have delivered their pre-sold items before launching any funding campaigns.
    I also feel that despite the classic rock cache the main driver of sales will be stoner/sludge/doom, which is niche even amongst the general metal population.
    I could be wrong, maybe they come up with a great amp/cab sim pedal or positive grid style packable amp with broad appeal in addition to mammoth tube amps, but as you said the amp business is really tricky. Extremely difficult to get floor space in retail, painful shipping costs for online markets, massive price barrier to entry for customers, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

    • @FuzzlordEffects
      @FuzzlordEffects  4 месяца назад +3

      I think going class D I would personally like to see higher power, so if keeping to the classic 100-200w range using the old transistor design would be more appropriate

    Marketing really dropped the ball on this. Even if the amps end up being great it's probably doomed. They've done nothing but alienate the core audience.
    Cabs are supposedly shipping now, and Betas are coming later this month

    Their fundraiser actually looks like a bad crypto scam if I'm being honest, they even strangely used a bog standard rocket image that many use. Like...... really? And seriously where TF are all the sound and video clips for people? Where is any of it? Totally don't understand...

  • @mikegutterman3427

    I think they bit off more than they can chew. The Beta Lead seems like a winner for the price they are asking for a USA made solid state head since it should be more reliable than a vintage unit. I think they should have just launched it with maybe one cab at first. Trying to put out a full line from the get go seems overly ambitious. Model T should maybe have been product number two after that.

  • @reedl2353

    I am not a businessman. Just want to make that clear. However, my gut reaction is that if they need pre-order money as part of their basic funding, then they are not in good financial shape. If they are asking hopeful fans to give them money for an as-yet non-existent product, I suspect it's because they can't enough sufficient investment from people whose entire job is to invest in businesses. Why can't they get investment capital firms to invest in their company?
    None of that means that they won't eventually put out killer products, but there's no way I would give them a dime in advance.

  • @sad_yeehaw

    don't think there's any reason to give them our money yet, nothing to go off of! It's not like it's people who were part of Sunn originally, it's just people with capital who have the rights to the name

    Really annoyed with being spammed by them for crowdfunding nonsense. I haven't seen any info on folks actually getting their amps. I'm not convinced they actually have the capital or facilities to produce the amps they're pre-ordering. This is all coming across like a massive vaporware scam.
    I really hope folks haven't put too much money into this. You wanted to go into the potential interview the right way, without any proof there isn't anything to interview about!

    They are 10 years too late and don’t have enough capital to get it off the ground. It cost way too much to build a small batch of tube amps at a profit. It ain’t like the guys doing presale shirts and vinyl and having someone else make them. Even if they built the OG model T on PCB to keep some cost down they would still have to charge $4000 the iron alone at Heyboer is super expensive over $400

    Just based on the photos they put up of some pcbs and the prices theyre asking for the tube amps they have up it doesn't give me a lot of faith. If the 100s/200s is the price they're asking with that dinky looking pcb and board mounted sockets then I'm not holding my breath. Nothing wrong with PCBs but theirs didn't exactly look great and for the money they're asking it should be a something more substantial and properly designed and laid out

    • @the_trash_mane5875
      @the_trash_mane5875 4 месяца назад

      @@RaymondGinn1978i wouldn't say that dudes opinion is dumb, because I agree I fucking love "big dumb tube amps" but in the scene I'm in, I've been seeing a lot of Quilter blocks going into a 4x12 cab or guys going with a fractal or helix into a PA.
      Personally for me, I can't use much volume at home without a noise complaint from neighbors or having to find a practice space. Pair that with the price entry for most big tube amps, it's a lot more appealing for someone like me to spend 600$ on a used helix + some pedals, and just go through PA systems. It's not that tube amps are coming to an end, it's just there's more options out there now that have some pretty good utilities that might rival the tube amps.
      Praise real amps though, I'm all for 100 watt amplifier worship if I had the funds for it.

    • @electricmeatpuppet
      @electricmeatpuppet 4 месяца назад +1

      Tube amps are still relevant for working musicians, especially that play larger shows, which they were intended for. Tube amps were never intended for residential properties... but that's not how marketing works right, people are only just seeming to figure this out through all the noise. Now we're seeing the push for lower wattage amps because of it. Soon we'll see more of a meld of the two as modelers become combined with tactile physical devices powered with low wattage power amps... next stage of evolution, best of both worlds, made appropriate for the companies market demographic and their "new buyer acquisition". There's actually still room in the market for someone to capture this niche with first mover advantage as the industry and guitar players in general are quite conservative.
